Gary runs like a scared rabbit every time somebody pokes a stick at him--does it every time--remember what he did when his delinquent child support documents were brought forth? He's not fit to be representing this City in ANY capacity.
Folks, give Bonnie Gordy the same opportunity given to Joel Hamilton at the Salisbury Zoo. This change is certainly for the better.
To the other commenter who asked how long ago this happened. I have been on this story for 6 weeks, (as I stated in my earlier article) so it could have happened that long ago.

I am so sorry that you feel as you do about Linda Lugo. So many hundreds of us have had wonderful experiences with her and the Humane Society staff. We are deeply grateful for the love and attention our animals received at the shelter before they were adopted into their "forever" homes. The HS website is filled with testimonials from owners like me; if we remain silent, however, it's opinions like yours that will be heard. Shame on us.
You know what. You can play that game all you'd like, just as a small group of peoploe showed the same limited support toward Jim Rapp, till they got to know who he really was.
Speak to MANY of the Former STRAIGHT, (respectfully) emplyees of the Humane Society and you'll come to learn of a completely different Linda Lugo, as I have.
Just like Jim Rapp, she is/was in a business you and I don't have time for. However, SHE'S BEING PAID WELL TO DO THAT JOB. Now, is she doing it well? Hell No she's NOT!
Ask some of the local police Officers who have adopted animals recently and have been subjected into forking out thousands upon thousands of dollars to save the lives of these animals because surgeries were done too soon on the animals and they knew it. The conditions obviously weren't healthy enough to do those surgeries. Fresh materials are allegedly not provided. This is just ONE of MANY topics I am aware of and like I said, I'm not going to get into all of them right now but let me assure you, Linda Lugo, (in the end) will say they didn't have enough money to do things right. Well, then show up in front of the County Council when you're invited NUMEROUS times, yet she refuses to do so.
Heck, even the Board was invited and asked to come in recently WITHOUT Linda and they REFUSED with total disrespect.
The bottom line is, the taxpayers of Wicomico County put up hundreds of thousands of dollars to support that Humane Society every year and that can be cut off in a New York Second. In fact, I've been told Linda doesn't even care and encourages the County to build their own facility.
Start acting like a professional Linda and show respect for those who are proving the funding to keep your doors open. Show up for meetings when you're asked to and get rid of that I'll do whatever I want attitude. In fact, I'll even be so bold as to say, start treating your Staff as EQUALS and STOP asking if they're FAMILY.
Now many of YOU may not understand what that means but I'll tell you one thing, Linda and her partner know exactly what I'm talking about and that's all that matters.
I know for a fact that shady things go on in that place on a daily basis. And if you are not her type, you are not treated very well. Linda Lugo has as much business running that place as Barrie Tilghman has being the mayor of Salisbury. I am an animal lover and would like to rescue each and every animnal there but not if it means dealing with Linda Lugo. Hopefully the truth will come out and she will get what she should have had coming long ago.

I am 3:05 and believe sincerely in what I wrote. Your opinion is that I am probably naive and certainly uninformed. You may be right about that. However, I regret your comment, "You know what. You can play that game all you want. . ." I was playing no game and am at a loss as to how you formed that mistaken conclusion. I was expressing an honest opinion based on adopting an animal from the shelter; I will leave the game playing to those who seem to have such a talent for it.

As for Ms. Lugo, I don't know her, never met her. But I'm concerned about some of the comments here. I hate to hear anyone's sexual preferences being discussed, and that's what I've gathered here.
IF -- and I say IF because I don't know -- Ms. Lugo has made this any kind of any issue in the workplace, I am very upset. I am very pro-live and let live and this worries me that this will hurt my gay friends living in this area. They have enough discrimination to deal with, and I am afraid this create an even worse situation to deal with.
I sure hope this is not the case. And I hope the animals are being well cared for.
If someone can prove they were not hired only because they were not "family" or were subjected to uncomfortable/inequitable working conditions or were fired because they were not "family", that's a civil rights violation. They can and should bring legal action if they have been wronged. Are there cases of that? Is that the point of all of these thinly-veiled "family" comments?

Joe i commend you for bringing up the so called family issue and for those that do not believe this is true let me tell you this there are nine in the family and only four not in the family and one that is sleeping with one of the main family so he and she are tetering on the edge.And he is one of the four and she is one of the nine who is sleeping at the directors house.

She is one of the nine sleeping at the director's house? There are not nine HS employees sleeping at the director's house. I live in the same neighborhood and know that is not true.
I adopted a dog that I fell in love with the moment I saw her. Naturally she had to have surgery before coming home with me. For months and months after this she was closely watched due to this surgery. There was a possibility that she was gonna need more to fix what they did. For the longest time it looked like her insides were coming out of the incision even after it had closed up.
My vet said that he had seen this in many other cases of animals who had been operated on too young.
I wouldn't trade my dog for anything but I will admit that she cost me lots in that first year. It would of cost less if I could of brought her home and had him do the surgery when she was old enough.
As for the "family" issue. My friend's son worked there a few years ago. He felt so out of place for being "himself" which was NOT park of the "family". We tried to tell him he had a case against several of them for the treatment. He didn't want to bother with it because he never wants to see any of them ever again.

The purpose of a board is to make sure the daily operations are within the budget of the organiation. Where was the board when these issues were going on. If this is the case, sounds like clean house on the board should be the first priority. Why did the president quit, he should be supporting his board, right? The director can only do as much as the board allows her to do. So ease up on Linda. I also agree with Spice, on both issues. Cathy
Joe posts about an investigation and all of a sudden the comments turn into personal attacks on a persons FREE CHOICE of lifestyle. Who anyone sleeps with is no ones business, unless of course they are sleeping with your spouse. I would be willing to bet this investigation has nothing to do with who is gay and who is not. How about we wait and see what is being investigated and by whom before boulders are thrown.

From what I hear, the veterinarians are in deep trouble as well. Someone needs to check into blank documents with their signatires on them as well as forged documents.

Its not that 8 weeks is not old enough for surgeries are being performed on animals that are younger than that, and also being performed on sick animals. ALLin the name of money!!!
One more comment on the "family" issue: there is a vast difference between feeling uncomfortable in a group that is unlike oneself and being made to feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it is just knowing that we are different from the people around us in a signficant way that causes us to feel uneasy. The members of the group may not be doing or saying anything inappropriate. I think it's especially difficult when one has been used to being in the majority.
I am here for one reason only! A friend of mine called me and said i needed to look at what was said about the HS and espiecally me.Yes i am an animal control officer working out of the HS,and i would like to make a statement.Someone has questioned my sexuality well it really isn,t anybodys business but if one of my children were to be reading your comment and for the record we have four my youngest partically may or would have had a hard time understanding why someone would say such a thing about her daddy,but as i have tried to explained to her on other occasions there are a lot of people in this world that go around and make false accusasions and they do not have any evedence to what they say is true and this goes for all the accusasions in this HS part of this blogg. One more thing my wife and i have been very happily married for twenty two years,i have never been in the clossett so there is no need for someone to think i need to come out.You know just because you work somwhere where there other people who live another life style does not mean it is like a virus and you are going to catch it to!!!!!Ray lewis
IF there is an investigation going on at the Humane Society, those of us on this blog are doing absolutely nothing to enhance its effectiveness. We are just glibly spouting vile accusations and making up stuff as we go along. Of course, waiting to hear the actual results of whatever investigation would be too responsible and therefore too boring. Where's the entertainment value in that? If all of us think about it, we can figure out just how this uninformed, unsubstantiated half-baked dialogue got started.

I am one of the people who has spent thousands of dollars trying to save the life of an animal from the (not)Humane Society. To be exact I spent $2,316.21 which DOES NOT including special dietary food that was needed, and other things like a leash, toys, regular food and a doggy bed. And yes I have a folder of receipts, lab results and the necropsy (canine autopsy) report. All of which have dates and times on them. Of course there is no price that can be put on the emotional trauma from thinking you are saving a life and finding out the IMPROPER or LACK OF medical care doomed the animal prior to being adopted.
My family and I decided to adopt a dog from the Wicomico County Humane Society and save it's life. We were told that the puppy we chose was 8 weeks old and had just reached the legal age of adoption. We filled out the paperwork and were told that the puppy needed to neutered, dewormed and given all it's shots prior to be taken home. After a week I received a phone call saying that the puppy now 9 weeks old had been neutered and was able to be taken home. Just a few days after being brought home the puppy began to have diarrhea. Of course we took the puppy to vet and after several tests we found out that the puppy had tapeworms AND ringworms. "I thought that I had paid the Humane Society to deworm the puppy. At least that's what the paperwork that they gave me said". Well the puppy was treated and given a dewormer and SEVERAL medications to be taken of the next two weeks.
The puppy never made it to the two week follow up. A few days later the puppy began sneezing violently for hours at a time. So back to the vet we go. Several tests later we find out that the puppy has bordatella (kennel cough). "Once again I thought that I had paid to have the puppy vaccinated against that. At least that what the paperwork said." Since this was our only dog and the puppy was not around any other dogs where else other than the Humane Society could the puppy have gotten it from? I've been told that it can take up to 10 days for bordatella to present itself. Strangely it was exactly 10 days after we got the puppy that this happened. Again we were given several medication to help treat yet another problem that the documentation from the Humane Society stated the puppy was vaccinated for.
Yet again the puppy did not make the two weeks follow up. A few days the puppy (now 10 weeks old) began having dark, bloody diarrhea. And again back to the vet's we go. After more test we found out that the puppy was bleeding internally from hook worms cutting in the intestines. Also the puppy was having liver failure. After several days of being given IV fluids, A BLOOD TRANSFUSION and having A PLASMA INFUSION our puppy's little body just gave out and the puppy died. The necropsy showed that the puppy had canine infectious hepatitis (highly contagious). Once again since the puppy was not around any other dogs, there is only one place that all of these illnesses could have come from. The Wicomico County Humane Society.
The puppy was a lab and only weighed a little over 4 lbs. at 10 weeks. The puppy was the same size as all of the other puppies in the litter. Since there were several puppies caged together sadly I can only fear that several others had met with the same horable and easily preventable fate.
All we ever wanted was to save an animal and give it a home and a life that it might not have had. Sadly I feel the puppies would have had a better chance in life if they were left to fend for themselves instead of being taken to the Humane Society.
Ultimately my family and I feel devastated for the puppy, hurt by being lied to and having the money we gave to the Humane Society to start life out healthy used for obviously something other than providing for the animals.
