A Salisbury City Police Officer going to an address where a subject had fired off a gun earlier today. He asked for backup as the guy could have been home and armed.
Dispatch told him they had no one available. Finally after a few minutes an officer cleared what he was doing and went to help. Luckily the guy wasn't home.
Taxes go up, they purchase all the Fire Trucks anyone could ever dream of but there's not enough Firefighters to fight the fires or ride the new shiny Trucks and not enough Police Officers to cover the City safely?

Is Salisbury really the tenth most dangerous city in America? I didn't know. My children live there. Maybe its time to get out.
How much stuff at the old station 16 downtown is going to go in the two dumpsters sitting outside the building that could be sold at city auction or elsewhere? Why are we the citizens paying for a dumpster when public works has dumptrucks that could be used to haul trash away? How much "junk" was at the old training center on Isabella st that required a construction dumpster? Is the Administration not wasting our tax money again? Sorry this is so long.
And their dept wonders why they cant keep any good officers within the dept. The main reason is because of working environment. That is horrible...how would they explain that to that officers family if god forbid something happened. "Well Mrs, your son/husband was asking for help, however, were just to damn cheap to pay the guys so no one was available". SICK...totally sickening
6:45...The department doesn't wonder...they KNOW! Its the council that turns down new positions...its the council who turns down pay increases.
As the wife of a SPD officer...should anything happen to my husband...it will be the Mayor/council I would go after. There is only so much the Department can do! Some may think (true or not) that the chief isn't doing enough, but most of the time his hands are tied! Granted there are some things he can change.
I'll just leave it at that! LOL

Yes it is and we just recently had 3 murders in less than 12 days. Numerous crimes that go unreported. Many businesses don't ever report crimes because they know their insurance would sky rocket and it is much cheaper to deal with the crime in Salisbury. There are drug dealers and prositutes in the city every day. There is 83% of the housing which is rental so there is the crux of the problem. The problem is endorsed by mare DingleBarrie Parsons Tilgman and her Bobbleheads bubba comagees, Shamie Shields and Louweasil Smith. Elections are bought and paid for and controlled by the Slumlords who don't live in the city limits. Elections are also controlled by the local news paper, the Daily Crimes. The infrastructure can't handle the high density brought on by annexation and greed by the mare and the slumlords. The County Schools are all over capacity because of the rentals and annexations brought on by the city of Salisbury. The roads and sidewalks are crumbling. There water and sewer is over capacity because of the high density. There isn't enough water in the city if there were two major fires going on. God forbid a large warehouse fire taxing the water system and the fire department is dispatched for a housefire with kids trapped. The sewer system is so overburdened that the are secretly dumping hundreds of thousand of gallons of human feces (POOP) in the Wicomico River numerous times a year. The city of Salisbury has been caught illegally dumping mountains of human feces (CRAP) and the and the EPA refuses to do anything about these TURDS (Mayor and Council).
Salisbury also has one of the largest transient populations in the county that is welcomed with open arms by Lore' (I'm getting a big FAT PAY RAISE) L. Chambers, MBA Assistant City Administrator of the mares office. These transients are comprised of homeless people and illegal aliens. These homeless people are encouraged to come to Salisbury from other parts of the country because they are given a free bus ride. Salisbury is known for accepting the homeless when other towns are kicking them out. These homeless people and illegals are part of the reason for the increase in the crime rate. They are costing the tax payers thousands of dollars in police action and ambulance calls to the hospital so they can get out of the cold or the heat. Churches are taking them in and they are stealing the churches blind. The schools have to put on extra teachers or support to deal with the non American population that can't even speak English.
The taxes and water and sewer rates have increased every single year of DingleBarrie Tilgman's term in office and the city has nothing to show for it except for the crumbling infrastructure and corruption in office. There aren't enough police officers in the city or enough paramedics to handle the enormous call volume. Police Officers are leaving after they get free training to go to better jobs with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office or the Maryland State Police. Paramedics are leaving for better paying jobs in Ocean City or Anne Arundel County and making sometimes twice as much as they would be making in Salisbury. Salisbury can't even hire Paramedics or Police Officers because no one is applying.
Salisbury has a major problem with crime and gangs and they are in denial. They have been denying gang activity in the city of Salisbury for years.
Now you tell me, is Salisbury a place you want to send your children to college? Is Salisbury a place that you are proud to call home? The decision is yours!!
There are only 2 Council Members on the city council that are truly working for the people. Debbie Campbel and Terry Cohen thank you for trying to make the quality of life better for the citizens of Salisbury.

Someone should see whne the last time the mayor, shanie, comegys, or luiweasel ever did a ride along in the city with lower crime rates and plenty of police officers. Yeah right that'll happen. They sit in their ivory towers and pretend everything is alright nd spend money where its not needed. Lets cut police, fire, ems funding, and give it to developers. I heard the mayor only gave city police a 2% raise, not even equal to the cost of living or insurance increase they are hitting employees with, yet the county mustered a 7% for sheriffs dept. We can see how each govt prioritizes the safety of the community they serve.
Let me assure all of the family members of the police and fire departments of one thing. You did NOT get additional men because Gary Comegys led the vote against it. Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen did everything but spit wooden nickles to get at least 4 police and 4 fire additions. I'll post the audio clips from the budget session so you can hear it with your own ears.
Kudos to you ladies, wives of SPD. However do remember it is the mayor and the council majority that is the root of most of these problems here. I'm glad to see we are on the same side, we might not always agree but on this issue there is no doubt in my mind and I have lobbied myself for more officers. God Bless and protect you all.
Well, thanks to this blog at least we now know that the Chief has requested more officers, he's done his part. Salisbury had a $600,000 surplus last year, however couldn't fund more officers? They had to roll that money over to this year to put lipstick on that pig in an election year~!!

Some excellent comments. I know Debbie has done a ride-along recently. And earlssister is right about Terry and Debbie--I don't know how they keep from exploding at the incompetence and stupidity of what they have to deal with every meeting. There's an old saying: "It's hard to soar with eagles when you work with turkeys." So true of Salisbury!

This is comming from an individual who has been mugged at gunpoint, house broken into, property vadalized, and next door to a shooting during the day all since 2005 in Salisbury!

10th most dangerous city in America, I can buy that. I've talked to so many students who have been victims along with all the locals who have endured these evil acts and live in this type of setting. Senseles and what's even more senseless is not effectively combating these culprits!
Hell my roomate's bookbag got stolen today with all his notes he worked on, books, checkbook, $100 plus calculator, and other belongings because some greedy punk of a college brat wanted to take it. Up and down it's all around. Punks like that don't help and add the problems of the gangs and big timers in the area; though many falsely perceive themselves as big tymers.

This is soooo sad but soooo true! I would not live in the city of salisbury if somebody gave me a house, although I do have to work there. Somebody needs to do something NOW...The SLUM LORDS are trying to get all of their students to register to vote within salisbury and pushing them towards who they want them to vote for. This is not fair; that's how the piss poor people get elected like bubba; and we all know who his biggest campaigner was...RCI, Jr. The students need to know the truth about what is going on.

8:52....All the time! I have sent so many emails, I don't have to leave my last name...they know me by my first name. I have saved every single one and their responses. When confronted by a truly concerned person from with in, they squirm in their pants and beat around the bush. But most of the time the only ones who answer me, sincerely and apologetically are Debbie and Terry!
My husband pays into the FOP every month, and so far they have done nothing to help Salisbury. Not saying its their fault, but a united front would be nice!
The Police and Firefighters should join forces to become recognized as true unions. I know the WCSO did that and got crapped on but would it hurt for them to try?

They tried that but some of the police officers and firefighters have been threatened, harassed, and retalliated against.
For the person talking about the 7% raise at the sheriff's office, not all of the deputies got a 7% raise, only the new hires got that to make them even with MSP. Some got 3 or 4%. Stop bitching about what our police officers get paid they deserve the pay they get. I love it when people sit back and talk about how much our deputies get paid, they go out everyday and risk their lives and well being to keep your a** safe. Granted they know they will be doing this when they become police officers, but think about if they become hurt or god forbid they are killed what are their families supposed to do. The county wont do collective bargaining so that their families could be taken care of in the event of a tragedy, since they won't do that they have to try and save as much money as possible so that if this does happen their wives/husbands/kids don't become homeless. By the way SPD does have a good retirement and LEOPS, LEOPS is what the deputies have been trying to get but the county won't consider it. Instead you have a theft ring stealing millions from the county and no one knows about it until it's too late.
Maybe someone should ask about the amount of money some of those "upper brass" are getting paid at the Sheriff's office and what they are getting paid for doing. Many of those men and women are making more than the sheriff himself, for making schedules, or working 8am to 5pm in the courts monday through friday. While you have deputies working the road on shift work and having to go to court on their days off and getting paid overtime for it because you have a person making 80 thousand a year can't coordinate schedules. Miike Lewis was going to make changes when he came into office, but to me it seems like the Hunter Nelms era lives on, I would rather have Hunter back at least then you would have expected this shit out of him not Mike Lewis.
City polic recruits are a dime a dozen says Bubba. Fireman require more training and their reaction to a problem saves money. Police reaction only saves lives. We have too many people now and the death of a person usually does not cost the insurance companies very much money. We have to watch the purse strings.
Don't you believe for one minute Gary Comegys is watching any purse strings. Not when he's pushing for more bonded debt that is not necessary, more toys for the vollies but not one body for SFD. He'd rather bond a 10 million for an inferior building than pay 600k for 4 additional police and 4 additional fire and/or ems. Gary Comegys is full of shit, he's watching out for himself and no one else.
