HISTORICAL MOMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

A NEW CANNING HOUSE TOKEN SURFACES
I have collected canning house tokens for many years and the thrill of putting a new token in my collection never lessens. The tokens were used from the 1860’s to about 1950, with tokens from the Eastern Shore starting to show up around 1875. They were used to pay the workers in the canneries and oysters houses for manual labor and were redeemed for cash either at the end of the day or week. Before the child labor laws, children might work all summer, saving their tokens to cash in for their back-to-school clothes (usually shoes – the clothes were hand made at home). Tokens have also been found that were used to pay the pickers in the fields.
Throughout the years of token collecting, I have acquired many tokens through various means. Swapping with fellow collectors has been the most rewarding. In the old days, doubles were the bounty of any other collector that didn’t have them as long as they had doubles that you could freely select from. The long-gone early collectors that swapped this way are only a memory now that everything has a price attached to it. I still give away my doubles to new collectors that show signs of being in the hobby for the love of it rather than any monetary gain. By doing this, I have cultivated some new collectors here on the Shore, and made some new friends.
As a local historian, the knowledge of tokens is a nice addition to the knowledge found in the local history books. This brings me to tell of the latest token to surface. A local dealer called to tell me of three tokens he bought from a man and wanted to know what they were. They were thick red fiber, 24 mm, and had only the initials WFM incused on them. There weren’t any periods after the initials. The main clue he had was from the man he bought them from. The man said they had belonged to his mother. She worked in the office of the W. F. Messick Ice Co. in Salisbury. There is a W. F. Messick & Bro., Allen, MD, listed in R. Lee Burton’s book, Canneries of the Eastern Shore. It is Wicomico No. 57 and was in business at least from 1919-1922. Further research in Ed Kee’s book, Saving Our Harvest, revealed that W. F. Messick & Bro. is listed in the 1919 Canners Directory. The important piece of research that came out of Ed Kee’s book was the fact that the Messick cannery’s office was in Salisbury, the place of the W. F. Messick Ice Co. I imagine that W. F. Messick kept the books for the cannery at his ice company office in Salisbury.
So, with some solid research to back up my claim that the WFM token is from the Messick cannery in Allen, MD, I have added a new token to my Wicomico County collection.
This is a token that would have been a Maverick at a flea market if the information had not been available to go along with it. As it is, a good token with good attribution has been added to the list of known tokens. As I’ve always said about token collecting – a good hobby is one that you spend more time than money in accumulating your collection.

Suze Orman Gives Advice About Sucking on the Crack Pipe of Phantom Home Equity
Talk about being in complete denial of a bad real estate market, this realtard's income dropped from $136,000.00 in 2007 to less than $40,000.00 in 2008. She has a first, second and third mortgage (for the pool) because she thought that real estate could never go down in value.
These are the same people that were giving you financial advice telling you to make millions using "liar loans" to buy real estate you could not afford just so they could chalk up one more commission.

Roseanne Barr says Jews are acting like their Nazi Mentors by killing the innocents!

Today in an interview with Rosanne World Net Daily listened to Rosanne dispel any myths anyone might have about this last weeks fighting in Gaza. She said if the Zionist financed by their Evangelical Christian friends here in the state would stop acting like their mentors in Nazi Germany, all of this killing would end.
Roseann, brought up in a Jewish and Mormon home and is now practicing Kaballah. Is differentiating between being a traditional Jew, such as an orthodox Jew vs. a Zionist.
Orthodox Jews do not believe that they are entitled to a homeland because of their disobedience to God, until he performs a supernatural miracle that the whole world will see and know it was God who did it, gives them one.
Zionist on the other hand believe that they are entitled to the land that had one time been there own, but after their disobedience they were run out of the region. Until after WWII the UN set up Israel as a state. Doing so, took the people who had been living there (the Palestinians) and displaced them. Imagine, one day you are told that the government is taking your home and you have nothing to say about it. Palestinians had been living in these homes for centuries and one day they were told they had to go. If they did not move there homes were bulldozed. This was in 1948.
Peace has not been in Israel since.
Palestinian were and are understandably resentful.
Originally, the State of Isreal was much bigger, and they have given back much of the land that they once possessed.
But now the problem is the 'Checkpoints'.
Checkpoints are the terror of the average Palestinians existence. These Checkpoints are placed in key areas of the city that Palestinians must walk through to get where they need to go, which could be a store, the hospital, a child's school, work or home.
Reports of abuse by Israeli soldiers has become common place, and there are now groups of Grandma' s who are against the occupation who stand at the checkpoints to make sure the guards act humanely. They believe that young Jewish men and women wouldn't misbehave in front of their grandmothers so they won't be inhumane in front of these ladies.
In recent years men have been beaten at the checkpoints for not having the correct papers, one while on the way to the hospital where his wife was dying.
Pregnant women have been forced to give birth on the ground at a check point.
Children must pass through them to get to school and they are afraid to go alone, so parents go with them, and the parents are often detained for know reason when on the way back home .
Peace needs to come to this region. It wasn't until the formation of Hammas that attacks from the Palestinian side have become so deadly. Hamas isn't only relying on suicide bombers any longer, they have now developed rockets that go further into Israel. However, when Israel strikes back it often hits civilians because the quarters in Gaza are so cramped they cant go out into the field to battle. They liken it to having a war in downtown Detroit.
The fighting has got to stop. The casualties are so bad, last week there was no room in the morgue! With another 6 Children dead the death toll has risen to 318.
All with the financial backing, support and weapons from the good ole USA.
Our priorities are deeply messed up. I remember sitting in a church service and the plate being passed and the money was going to be sent to Israel. The pastor was quoting the passage in the Bible where we are instructed to be a friend to Israel, and therefore we shall be blessed. At the time, I thought what I was doing was a good thing yet now I question my actions.
Each and every human being should have a place to call home, but we can't call it home if we take it from someone else. Even if the Government says that we can. Because eventually one day those people are going to become resentful, and they have.
There are many many millions of Jews who reside right here in America, and we have been very gracious in giving them visa's. There is more than enough room for all of these folks to live together, but they have to be as committed to the process of peace as they are their Gods.
Go here to read the Rosanne article and feel free to click through the related articles on this subject. It is very complex and leaves everyone very uncomfortable if the wrong thing is said. but things have become very serious and the Granny's and even Roseanne are imploring the soldiers not to obey orders, of searching of homes in the middle of the night, or detaining someone for no reason or whatever. They just need to stop.
A LOVE STORY
Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit they would warn their friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing. Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys. Lucky always 0D stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box. It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease.... in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.
She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him. The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.
The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed. When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong.
She couldn't move her head and her body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.
Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky? He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.
Remember....live every day to the fullest. Each minute is a blessing from God. And never forget....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care for us.

Updates From This Week's News
We reported a serious accident in Berlin this week and I came to learn of some new details I thought you might find interesting. The young men in the Navy that were speeding on Rt. 50 more than likely didn't know they had raced through a Radar Trap doing 108 miles per hour.
By the time the Berlin Police could start a pursuit these guys were well past them and probably didn't even know they were being chased when they crashed into the suburban at the High School.
On New Years Eve there were many problems in the City of Salisbury. I was told they had to close down Brew River because of fights.
I was also told that there was another major fight in or near Flavors of Italy as well. Funny, I didn't see any of this information put out elsewhere?

Wicomico Board Of Education Bans Salisbury News
"Joe,
What's up? I am a WCBOE employee and have noticed that they have blocked Salisbury News.
I guess they wanted to censor us from you. What's up with that. I didn't think you would be one to take something like that laying down. Yet so far I haven't heard a peep.
Sincerely,
A. Reader"
I will pass your concern on to our County Executive Rick Pollitt and the County Council and see what they can do about getting us back on line.
Two weeks ago Salisbury News was the first outlet to expose the armed robbery that put many local schools in lock down. The Teachers were highly concerned and wanted to know what was going on so they tried to access Salisbury News to find out. That is when many learned Salisbury News was being blocked. The Teachers then started ringing my phone off the hook and I was able to inform them of everything that was going on at the time and they were very comfortted to know what was up. NO OTHER News Organization had the information!
I'm confident the WCBOE doesn't want to be challenged by my attorneys but if that's what it will take to allow us to get back on line with them they can expect to hear from them by the end of next week if they don't comply beforehand. Censorship like this in an in educational facility is Un American and if they want to give me free publicity Nation Wide for pulling such a stunt, then so be it.
My guess is that the County Executive's Office is NOT aware of this and will do everything in their powers to reverse it immediately. If you can access the Daily Times, WMDT or WBOC, they're in very deep trouble.

Warning – Identity Theft Ring Targeting DelMarVa
An identity theft ring is targeting the residents of DelMarVa. They have also hit other parts of the country.
There are engaged in a cold call in what is known as a phishing scheme They appear to be targeting the elderly, the desperatre or the gullible.
This theft ring has been traced to Pensacola, FL, but there is no further information since the wheels of justice are backlogged.
This identity theft ring has been going on for well over the last two months
Numerous complaints have been filed with the Federal Trade commission ( Who is suppose to regulate this, but so far they have done nothing. Even though the exact location can be traced! )
Here is how to recognize the scammers.
If you have Caller – ID, The number will come up as “Unknown Name” or “Name Unavailable” ( depending on your phone service). It WILL show the following number:
850-432-3928
If you call the numder back you will get a recording that it is no longer a working number. If it isn't "working" how do they call us? and its a non working number!
If you answer you will get a recorded robo-call calling about "your credit card" but it never mentions what card, who they're calling,
If you wait and get a “live person” you will encounter a woman with a heavy spanish accent. Her pitch is that she can help lower your credit card bills. They will only identify themselves as “Credit Services”
If you ask her what credit card she is talking about, she will answer “Both Visa and Master Card”.
Yet she knows nothing about your account. If she asks for your credit card or account number, don’t give it to her. Instead ask “Don’t you already have that information?”
Typcially, these schemes work by them asking for your credit card number or the name of your bank and account number.
If you ask to be taken off their list, you will usually get a rude remark then they will hang up only to call a day or two later.
One person acuually got a little further:
“They offered to lower my credit card payments, as long as I had more than $3,000 in debt. Eventually the first representative transferred me to a floor supervisor. I asked where they were based, and they said Atlanta, Georgia. I asked if they could give me the name of their company, and they asked why. I said because you are asking me to give you my credit card number, so I'd like to find out how you are. Then they hung up.” - Brooklynite - Source:

While the following techniques usually work on others phishing. This one doesn’t seem to take the hint that you are not interested. The will keep calling about every other day.
This works for most theft rings
First, make THEM wait! I answer, and don't say anything. Just put the phone down and walk away. They don't like wasting their time waiting on you, even though some calls make YOU wait for an "available representative" when they tell you stay on the line.
Sing in the phone...Row, Row, Row Your Boat works like a charm!
Evidently, they also don't like talking to crazy people? Works a lot better than asking them to take you off their list.
My modem is equipped with caller ID. It can be programmed to hang up on any number.

I'm Game For Having This As A Post
Bigger Than Bush
By PAUL KRUGMAN

As the new Democratic majority prepares to take power, Republicans have become, as Phil Gramm might put it, a party of whiners.
Some of the whining almost defies belief. Did Alberto Gonzales, the former attorney general, really say, “I consider myself a casualty, one of the many casualties of the war on terror”? Did Rush Limbaugh really suggest that the financial crisis was the result of a conspiracy, masterminded by that evil genius Chuck Schumer?
But most of the whining takes the form of claims that the Bush administration’s failure was simply a matter of bad luck — either the bad luck of President Bush himself, who just happened to have disasters happen on his watch, or the bad luck of the G.O.P., which just happened to send the wrong man to the White House.
The fault, however, lies not in Republicans’ stars but in themselves. Forty years ago the G.O.P. decided, in effect, to make itself the party of racial backlash. And everything that has happened in recent years, from the choice of Mr. Bush as the party’s champion, to the Bush administration’s pervasive incompetence, to the party’s shrinking base, is a consequence of that decision.
If the Bush administration became a byword for policy bungles, for government by the unqualified, well, it was just following the advice of leading conservative think tanks: after the 2000 election the Heritage Foundation specifically urged the new team to “make appointments based on loyalty first and expertise second.”
Contempt for expertise, in turn, rested on contempt for government in general. “Government is not the solution to our problem,” declared Ronald Reagan. “Government is the problem.” So why worry about governing well?
Where did this hostility to government come from? In 1981 Lee Atwater, the famed Republican political consultant, explained the evolution of the G.O.P.’s “Southern strategy,” which originally focused on opposition to the Voting Rights Act but eventually took a more coded form: “You’re getting so abstract now you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is blacks get hurt worse than whites.” In other words, government is the problem because it takes your money and gives it to Those People.
Oh, and the racial element isn’t all that abstract, even now: Chip Saltsman, currently a candidate for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, sent committee members a CD including a song titled “Barack the Magic Negro” — and according to some reports, the controversy over his action has actually helped his chances.
So the reign of George W. Bush, the first true Southern Republican president since Reconstruction, was the culmination of a long process. And despite the claims of some on the right that Mr. Bush betrayed conservatism, the truth is that he faithfully carried out both his party’s divisive tactics — long before Sarah Palin, Mr. Bush declared that he visited his ranch to “stay in touch with real Americans” — and its governing philosophy.
That’s why the soon-to-be-gone administration’s failure is bigger than Mr. Bush himself: it represents the end of the line for a political strategy that dominated the scene for more than a generation.
The reality of this strategy’s collapse has not, I believe, fully sunk in with some observers. Thus, some commentators warning President-elect Barack Obama against bold action have held up Bill Clinton’s political failures in his first two years as a cautionary tale.
But America in 1993 was a very different country — not just a country that had yet to see what happens when conservatives control all three branches of government, but also a country in which Democratic control of Congress depended on the votes of Southern conservatives. Today, Republicans have taken away almost all those Southern votes — and lost the rest of the country. It was a grand ride for a while, but in the end the Southern strategy led the G.O.P. into a cul-de-sac.
Mr. Obama therefore has room to be bold. If Republicans try a 1993-style strategy of attacking him for promoting big government, they’ll learn two things: not only has the financial crisis discredited their economic theories, the racial subtext of anti-government rhetoric doesn’t play the way it used to.
Will the Republicans eventually stage a comeback? Yes, of course. But barring some huge missteps by Mr. Obama, that will not happen until they stop whining and look at what really went wrong. And when they do, they will discover that they need to get in touch with the real “real America,” a country that is more diverse, more tolerant, and more demanding of effective government than is dreamt of in their political philosophy.

Two Critically Injured After Alleged DUI Crash
By INNAE PARK -- WMDT 1/1/2009
Two people are in critical condition after police say their SUV was hit by a driver who's been charged with DUI.
On New Year's Eve, Berlin officials say they chased a car that was going 108 mph in a 50 mph zone.
They say the vehicle crashed into the SUV at the intersection of Route 50 and Seahawk Road.
Officials say they also found a loaded gun in the car following the crash, and both driver and passenger were active duty Navy personnel.
Police say five people involved have been released from the hospital.
The remaining two are still in the ICU.
It is now January 3rd, 2009 and these are all the Top Stories for WMDT? I'll give them credit. They at least had the driver doing 108 MPH but they neglected to mention they had gone through a speed trap and this is how the Berlin Police knew they were going that fast.
Looks like WMDT is falling days behind Salisbury News along with the rest of the local MSM. "More News In Less Time?" More like 3 days late and a dollar short to me. It's no wonder so many people are turning to Salisbury News for the most recent and updated news and information. Everyone else is simply making it very easy for us to be Delmarva's News Leader. Sound familiar? LOL Oh, I should add. Isn't it interesting how the Daily Times no longer puts a time stamp on their articles! I WONDER WHY???????

John Travolta's 16 Year Old Son Has Died
John Travolta's Son has died of a seizure in the Bahamas. From what I have read on line, his Son had a history throughout his lifetime of having seizures and hit his head on the bathtub. A caretaker for the Family found him unconscious and was pronounced dead at the Hospital.
Man, that's really sad. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Travolta Family.

Revenue Cap Verses Tax Cap Concept
The following commentary is a repeat of a previous submission that was published on SBYnews.
I would not ordinarily publish a repetition so soon but because our Elected County Executive spoke about his disdain for our Revenue Cap in his recent State of The County Speech I wanted to take this opportunity to reinforce what otherwise might have been forgotton by our citizenry.
Please bare-in-mind that the School Teachers have proposed legislation for the past three legislative sessions to exempt themselves from paying any real estate tax on their own primary homes while increasing the real estate taxes on ordinary citizens.
Read the House Bill for yourself as I'm not making this stuff up folks.
Re: HB 965 - Property Tax Public School Teachers
Several years ago (1978) Talbot County instituted a TAX CAP after a similar hugely unacceptable tax increase to Wicomico County incensed the voters to action. From 1978 until 1995 ballot questions were put before the voters to remove the TAX CAP. Finally, in January of 1995 a Coalition of SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS - Board of Education, Chamber of Commerce, PTA, NAACP, League of Women Voters, and other individuals SUED to overturn the TAX CAP and they won! The TAX CAP was ruled unconstitional.
Do you think VOICE should have gone for a TAX CAP? That certainly would have been an easy 'kneejerk' thing to do in light of the Court's decision.
After the TAX CAP was ruled unconstitutional in January 1995, The Talbot County Council in May raised the property tax by 46.%. That's right they raised the property taxes by almost 50 percent! But they - SPECIAL INTEREST - didn't have enough! The next year, in 1996 they raised it another 46.3%!!! And we - Wicomico Residents- think 23.7% is bad. Now let's try and add this up. . . .what's 46.1% and 46.3% over two years. Let's hold the math until the end of this lesson.
The Talbot voters were so incensed they searched for a way to stop these run-a-way politicos and came up with the Revenue Cap concept. The voters rallied to get it on the ballot and it was passed in 1996 by 72.21% of the voters! It stands as law today in that County. Even after MANY attempts to have it removed . . VOICE used the EXACT wording in their petition as was used in Talbot County. It's exactly the same language that is LAW in Talbot now.
So what have we learned today. Hopefully we've learned that from the time a TAX CAP was ruled unconstitutional and was replaced by a REVENUE CAP in Talbot County (1995 - 1996) - property taxes went up 92.4%!!! Actually that would not be entirely accurate as I'm told that before the REVENUE CAP could become law the actual true tax increase was 113.8%
The next question is a bit more subjective - after this current events history lesson - is the Daily Times staunch reason for objecting to the REVENUE CAP . . . do you now feel the VOICE proposals are obviously not well thought out?"
If your property tax increased by 113.8%, would the difference be greater or less than your recent pay raise?

HISTORICAL MOMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER

From The Scene

Another friend of Salisbury News, Malaki Greer provided these photos as well from the scene of three suspected burglars in a high speed chase on Rt. 13. Salisbury News, Delmarva's News Leader.
I've been informed there were a total of 5 suspects. The individual in the red jacket was apprehended after a K-9 search located the individual. The 5th suspect was caught at the scene of the burglary where the other 4 fled.
This is awesome work by several Police Departments. From what I have gathered you had the Maryland State Police, Wicomico County Sheriff's Department, Delmar Police and Salisbury Police on the scene. ALL suspects captured, no one hurt. Unbelievable!
Again, thank you Wayne Barrall and Malaki Greer for their great photography!
This Just In

While I had been informed there were only TWO people arrested at the scene, there were actually THREE! If you click on this image it will enlarge. Once you do you'll clearly see the guy on the ground, that's suspect #1. Then, if you look at the windshield of the green Honda you'll see a black female through the front window, suspect #2. Then, when you look on the right hand side of the photo and see the white female standing there with the Trooper, that's Trooper Hagel from the M.S.P. reading the white woman her rights, suspect #3! I had NO IDEA! WOW! The white woman was balling her eyes out while she was being read her rights but that's what it is Folks. Thanks Wayne!
Burglary Suspects Update

Mr. Wayne Barrall of Fire In The Hole Photography delivered these fantastic photos to Salisbury News taken earlier this morning on the scene where they captured two of the suspect from an alleged robbery on Connelly Mill Road. Wayne will have photos posted on his Site in just a few minutes as well and I have provided a link for you to go there and view them.
We are still awaiting a Press Release from the different Police Departments to get updated on where things stand at this point and time. I will also have an additional Post up shortly providing even more photos from another local Photographer. Enjoy.
It's Snowing
My suggestion to all of you is, before the mad rush, go to the store and stock up on milk, bread & toilet paper. LOL
BREAKING NEWS 1050
There was a burglary on Connelly Mill Road, later called in as Colonial Mill Road this morning. The State Police arrived and ultimately got into a high speed chase with a green Honda. One person jumped from the vehicle and took off running, K-9 Dogs are on the scene now tracking that person down. The Green Honda took off again and just now wrecked after being chased by the State Police. This is all going on LIVE right now. More updates as they come in.
Keep your eyes out for a black male in a red jacket near Rt. 13 & Stage Road. Troopers are in the area looking for this individual right now. They're now on Gordy Mill with a K-9 looking for the suspect. There have been no calls so far made to the Fire Depart after the wreck. I'll have to assume no one is injured.
The suspect in the red jacket is named Lamar. The jacket is a North Face brand jacket. He's also wearing a grey sweatshirt and wearing black Nike Boots.
The green Honda actually went head on into a Sheriff's Deputy vehicle. South bound Rt. 13 is completely shut down. They have arrested a male and a female and the other suspect (above) is still on the loose. We will have pictures coming in about 2 hours from the scene. An Ambulance did go to the scene but everyone refused to go to the Hospital stating no one was injured.
You have to admit Folks, it's pretty cool to get the information LIVE as you almost feel a part of the situation as it's going on. I know I do. Blogs are certainly the best way to go when it comes to getting breaking news.
NEW UPDATE 10:48 AM: I'm told Sheriff Mike Lewis is on the scene right now at an abandoned home on Stage Road with guns drawn. I have also been informed that the Salisbury Police Department is also on the scene.
They have CLOSED south bound Rt. 13 at Allens Mill Road. Looks like Rt. 13 is going to be closed for a while. We have also been told the suspect on the loose is 6' 1" tall and 265 pounds.

The Video Clip That Wasn't Allowed In The United States
This video shows that George Bush tried to warn Congress starting in 2001 that this economic crisis was coming, if something was not done. But congress refused to listen, along with Barney Frank. This video says it all.
The liberal AMERICAN media did not want this video on You Tube, so they had Time Warner threaten a law suit (proprietary rights) if it was not taken off.
This link is of the same video but is routed through Canada. Everyone in America needs to see this!

During the altercation, Kilgore used a folding razor type blade to cut the victim in several places on the victim’s body. The victim received several lacerations including a four inch gash to the neck area.
Kilgore could not be located by the responding deputies so a warrant for his arrest was obtained. Deputies managed to locate Kilgore at 3:30 PM on 1 Jan 2009 at a residence in Pittsville where he was taken into custody and transported to the Central Booking Unit. After being processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner, Kilgore was detained in WCDC on $25,000.00 bond.

Poker
Two couples were playing poker one evening. Jim accidentally dropped some cards on the floor. When he bent down under the table to pick them up, he noticed Bob's wife, Sue wasn't wearing any underwear under her dress! Shocked by this, Jim upon trying to sit back up again, hit his head on the table and emerged red-faced.
Later, Jim went to the kitchen to get some refreshments. Bob's wife followed and asked, 'Did you see anything that you like under there?' Surprised by her boldness, Jim admitted that, well indeed he did. She said, 'Well, you can have it but it will cost you ¤500.' After taking a minute or two to assess the financial and moral costs of this offer, Jim confirmed that he was interested. Sue told him that since her husband Bob worked Friday afternoons and Jim didn't, Jim should be at her house around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.
When Friday rolled around, Jim showed up at Bob's house at 2 p.m. sharp and, after paying Sue the agreed sum of ¤500, they went to the bedroom and closed their transaction, as agreed. Jim quickly dressed and left. As usual, Bob came home from work at 6 p.m. and upon arriving, asked his wife: 'Did Jim come by the house this afterno on?' With a lump in her throat, Sue answered 'Why yes, he did stop by for a few minutes this afternoon.'
Her heart nearly skipped a beat when her husband curtly asked, 'And did he give you ¤500?' Sue, using her best poker face, replied, 'Well, yes, in fact he did give me ¤500.'
Bob, with a satisfied look on his face, surprised his wife by saying, 'He came by the office this morning and borrowed ¤500 from me. He promised he'd stop by our house this afternoon on his way home and pay me back.'
Now THAT, my friends, is a poker player!

SBYNEWS.COM Solves A Case For The Salisbury Police Department

You just have to love how powerful this Blog has become. At 8:00 AM this morning we posted an article about a stolen ATV. By 8:45 AM one of our viewers FOUND it! Mr. Dave Bowling was cruising around the Isabella Street area this morning. He had been in the Blog and saw the stolen ATV and decided to leave for work a little early and check that area. Obviously it didn't take long before he found the vehicle behind a home in which he had never seen an ATV there before. Mr. Bowling immediately called the SPD and as I was speaking with him on the phone this morning, the SPD was right there writing it up.
OMG, that's right, I forgot! Man is Chief Webster ever going to be pissed we beat them to yet another Press Release. Well, let's just hope the rest of the Press gets a hold of this story and puts it out there so he's not so mad at just me.
Great work Dave and thank you! Good things happen to good people.
Daily Times Shows Same Lack of Leadership As County Executive
Today's Daily Times publishes an editorial exhibiting the same lack of leadership, vision, and understanding of the issues as we discussed Wednesday in our post on the Wicomico "State of the County" address. Politics is obviously more important than facts; government spending more important than taxpayers.
Whining over the revenue cap is not going to solve anything. While an opponent of the revenue cap, I realize that the voters of Wicomico County do not (and should not) trust County Executive Rick Pollitt with a repeal. Now Pollitt, and the paper, are asking for a revision. This is not politically viable either because bold action requires leaders. To date we have none, either in the County Executive's office nor at Gannett's new digs in Northwood.
The Daily Times' argument about county revenue proves that they have no understanding of the real problem and seem to believe that government should just keep raising revenue to meet expenses, rather than solve the problems of spending AND the source of that spending:

The housing boom was in full swing, the economy was sailing along and property tax revenue from new construction was not affected by the cap for the first year. So any shortfalls were made up by the taxes collected on new construction, which was not included in the pot that is limited to 2 percent --or less, depending on the rate of inflation --more than the previous year's revenue.Read More ...
Mayor Tilghman & Chief Webster Need Solutions For The Homeless
"Yesterday morning, two city police officers came to the City/County Building where the homeless man sleeps. The loading dock of the office building. One checked his I.D. and then apparently asked him to leave. Both officers waited until he packed up both of his sleeping bags and the rest of his belongings. The homeless man went one way and the two police officers went the other. As they were passing the windows of the City/County building, one of the officers made gestures and then gave a thumbs up to someone inside the office building. This seemed to be a signal that the officers sent the homeless man on his way.
I feel it is such a shame that these people have to live on the streets, some by their own choice and others because of circumstances and then to take a stance like that. This man has slept on that loading dock for more than a year and a half and the deputies used to ask him to leave if he overslept. His normal time leaving was about 8:00-8:30 and that would before the public started coming through those walkways. Now he does sleep in and probably has to do a lot with it is cold out there and he probably does not sleep as well. He has been rained on, snowed on, wind blowing and the heat. If one needs to sleep outside, at least he has a small roof over his head and a corner of a building to get away from some of the weather.
He hasn't been a problem sleeping out there for this entire time and now it makes me believe due to the upcoming election, the homeless are being dealt with now. What an embarrassment this has to be to the current administration and now to her possible replacement that has been her "yes man" the entire time. There is crime out there, and yes from time to time, homeless people commit the crimes, but lets not let an election bring on running these people away from their safest spots, away from what little shelter they have. And not knowing what conversations were had between the officers and the homeless man, checking his I.D., was this a way of putting him on notice not to sleep there anymore? I guess we will know that come Monday morning when everyone returns to work. Everyone knows who this man is, and just now, New Year's Eve day, they have to run him away from his sleeping quarters. And yes, I do know, if he had stayed on his schedule of being gone by 8:30 a.m. this would probably not have happened.
It is such a shame that we show compassion for our furry friends, but human beings are tossed aside. We should find a way of dealing with all life, furry and human. Maybe Linda Lugo can open up her building due to all the animals being adopted out, and replace the cages with mattresses. Okay, this went a bit far, but something needs to be done. Look at the Feldman Building, can it be renovated enough for homeless to have a warmer place to be able to stay. I wished I had the money to start some kind of program. I pick up animals on the side of the road but I am afraid to bring a human being home due to my children and not knowing the history or mental state of the person.
Have A Happy New Year!!"
Please GO HERE for the solution. As Americans, we need to work together and rebuild our Country. We do so by starting right here at home and electing new Leadership that want to make things better for ALL of us. Making things better does not mean $10,000,000.00 Fire Stations or a mega million dollar Library in a horrible economy. Unfortunately for MANY of you reading this Blog, you too will be hit hard and could become one of the Homeless. The old Fire Station 16 is sitting there doing NOTHING! It's bitter cold out. Open those damn doors and provide a place for these people to rest. The City AND County should work together to fund a project like this and set aside projects like the Dog Park for now. Set aside the renovations at the Zoo. Set aside the North Prong Project for now. You're welcome to add to this list if you'd like. We need to rebuild right here at home and never forget where we came from.

Illinois Governor Blogo is becoming endearing. I'm glad he's not stepping down and he is gonna make them take him down (if they can)
and after his last stunt they just don't know what to do with him.
One thing is for sure he is shameless.

Electricity Bills To Increase for Marylanders Very Soon
Maryland consumers will begin paying small monthly fees on electric bills this year to subsidize an ambitious energy-conservation initiative, under plans approved by regulators yesterday.
The surcharges will not be set until spring, said Public Service Commission Chairman Douglas Nazarian, but preliminary estimates range from less than $1 to about $3 per month for residential ratepayers.
Electricity bills have been a thorn in O'Malley's side since he campaigned in 2006 on the unfulfilled promise of undoing a 72 percent electricity rate increase for 1.2 million customers of BGE, the state's largest utility. The O'Malley administration successfully negotiated a $170 credit for BGE customers in September, but critics were quick to upbraid the governor yesterday for policies that pile on fees at a time of economic hardship.
"I thought one of the claims of this administration ... was they were going to fight higher rates," said Del. Warren E. Miller, a Howard County Republican who sits on the House Economic Matters Committee. "Now what I'm hearing is they're going to issue an order to impose an additional charge, thereby making electricity more expensive."
The BGE plan approved yesterday anticipates a $390 million investment in energy conservation through 2015, which the Baltimore-based utility can recover through fees imposed on industrial, business and residential customers. The state's four other electric companies - Pepco, Delmarva Power & Light Co., Allegheny Power and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative - have 90 days to propose a cost structure for their respective energy conservation programs.
A BGE spokeswoman declined to comment yesterday, saying officials there had not yet reviewed the PSC's order, which was released late in the day.
When all five electric company plans are up and running, the energy-conservation initiatives will represent investment of about $1 billion through 2015, said Malcolm Woolf, director of the Maryland Energy Administration, who called yesterday's actions "the first significant step" toward achieving O'Malley's conservation goals.
Maryland's goal of drastically reducing peak-energy consumption by 2015 is an "ambitious" goal that "no state has yet achieved," Malcolm acknowledged. "But few states have faced the energy challenges that Maryland has," he added.
The conservation requirements were adopted by the General Assembly last year amid rising energy demands that threatened to lead to rolling blackouts. The economic recession has reduced energy consumption, Nazarian said, but over time officials expect Maryland to struggle with rising consumer demand unless a "structural" reduction in consumption is achieved.

City of Salisbury Audit Report
Recently, Joe posted a link to the Auditors Management letter. This link will take you to the late as usual, 88 page audit report. While I haven't had time to read this report, I did read the management letter. It reads as if Barrie Tilghman sent it back for a rewrite, as she has done in the past. Sugar coated? I think so.
What are your thoughts on the auditors report?

Citi Rose Bowl Commercials
Joe:
I know you're not a huge sports fan so I don't expect you to be sitting around watching the Rose Bowl. While I'm enjoying the game, the break away for a commercial and when they come back it's, "Welcome back to the Rose Bowl, presented by Citi."
Citi. The same benefactor of millions and millions of OUR $$$$. I'd feel better if the commentators would say, "Welcome back to the Rose Bowl, presented by you, the Taxpayers of the United States."
Gotta love the good old USA and the bailouts. Your tax dollars at work!

NASA BEING OUTPERFORMED BY SMALL OPERATOR
Folks, I don't know if you have been keeping an eye on our nations status on exploration of outer space, but, if you have you'll soon come to the realization that a little operator - (Bert Rutan - Scaled Composites) - located in the Mohave Dessert has out gunned, out performed, beyond your wildest expectations at a fraction of our Governments cost. In fact, the private space exploration adventure has outperformed NASA by a Factor of 15. Not bad!
And who would have thought that a citizen of any County could pay to purchase a ticket to travel and explore the outer space. YOU CAN'T BUY A TICKET FROM NASA HERE IN AMERICA. THE ONLY PLACE THAT WILL SELL YOU A TICKET IS RUSSIA AND THEY HAVE DONE SO ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS.
Are Americans once again being systemically brainwashed? It's happened many times before. Why do you think Orville and Wilbur Wright originally decided not to donate their infamous wind machine to the Smithsonian. How about Nikola Tesla not being credited for first inventing the radio among other inventions.

Today's Daily Times Grapevine, Pot Calls Kettle Black
"The trouble with blogs
I completely agree that the blogs are destructive and worthless. I heard about and read them for about two months. I learned most of it was untrue -- just people causing trouble, not stating investigated fact. There's little intelligent investigation into what's posted on them. It's obvious that local politicians use blogs to stir up trouble for their agendas. These politicians should have to put their own opinions on this out there.
When will we ban these bloggers from posting lies about people? Some blog owners post the most ridiculous and outrageous mistruths. Is there anyone who hasn't been attacked?"
Do YOU find it interesting that the Daily Times is printing in the Grapevine the exact same thing they accuse the Blogs of? Go ahead and readf the comments posted in the Grapevine and then I'll comment some more at the end.

Oh my the Barrie=Gary folks are running scared again. Just like Barrie Tilghman to start bashing the blogs during Gary's campaign for mayor. Must we constantly remind you sheeple that it was Barrie Tilghman that opened the eyes of the citizenry to the blogs? It was Barrie Tilghman that created Joe Albero now she doesn't know how to handle what she created. Much like the ghetto formerly known as Salisbury, she also created during her tenure as mayor. If the administration didn't have so much to hide they wouldn't be concerned with bloggers. Instead they use the Tilghman Times to spread their vindictiveness and lies. So, what is the difference in the blogs and the DT? Barrie Tilghman controls the DT, she and her cronies can't control the blogs, that is the difference.

Yes, the blogs are generally very opinionated. However, since you read the DT you should realize that the DT and all MSM are also very opinionated. There is no investigative reporting done in any of the local media. Any articles published are done so with the approval of the editor, so it is all based on his or her opinion of what should be reported. It is up to the reader to try to sort out what, if anything, is being reported with truth and accuracy. In my opinion, none of it is. Most is half (or less) true, and very little of the major articles locally reported are anywhere near being 100% accurate.

Well, since he owns business/rental real estate right in downtown Salisbury, I'd say he has alot to gain by exposing the mismanagement of this city by Barrie and her friends.
"Could it be Debbie Campbell? It's no secret she and the mayor have a less than cordial relationship."
It's hard for Debbie to have a cordial relationship with a someone as underhanded as the current mayor. As far as the relationship between Councilwoman Campbell and Joe Albero, I'd say it can best be described with the old proverb "The enemy of my enemy is my friend/"

The same day we ban newspapers and websites and TV stations from telling lies about about people. You have to use discretion and question everything you hear from any source.
"Some blog owners post the most ridiculous and outrageous mistruths."
So do some newspapers. The blogs have exposed alot of facts that those in power wanted to hide. Say what you want about Joe Albero. He is far from perfect. But it is undeniable that his exposure of things about Salisbury and it's goverment, that those in power wanted to hide, that has driven Mayor Tilghman into retirement.
"Is there anyone who hasn't been attacked?"
YES. Have you noticed that there is no one who dares to write an anti- Campbell, and anti-Cohen, or an anti-Ireton blog? They have many enemies that would love to see the status quo remain in this city. But when you stick with the truth and the facts, you are hard to attack.

Untrue? Unreliable? Compared to what? How about this news outlet-- that just spouts the propaganda of the Tilghman administration! Let me remind everyone again the it was THE DT that published a pack of lies about Tim Spies- in a blatent and successful attempt to to get their buddy Gary Comegys re-elected- right before election day, with to time for rebuttal thru any traditional news out let.
What sort of political dirty tricks does the Tilghman Times got up their sleeves for this election? The blogs are far from perfect, but they are the only way to get information out there when the local MSM is not objective, and has a political agenda of their own.
1/1/2009 3:44:41 PM
OK, since a friend red flagged this information to me this evening I thought I'd make the following statement. Was I lying about the WWTP and the illegal Sludge Pit and all the other illegal violations found there? Was it not Barrie Tilghman who stated publicly that they were 100% compliant there? Was it not Barrie Tilghman who claimed time and time again she took full responsibility?
How about all the sewage spills I exposed over the years. Was I lying about those too? How about the dead animals alll over the Zoo, was I lying about that? Was I lying when I said Zoo Director Jim Rapp jumped on the hood of a truck and urinated on the windshield to defrost it while there were females inside the vehicle, some of which worked at the Zoo? Was I lying when I put up the audio files for the KC Tilghman / Rachel Polk Trial? Was I lying about all the Graffiti all over Downtown Salisbury? How about the illegal pipes draining into the Wicomico River at the Zoo. Then there's that Reverse Flow Valve where the main sewage line in Salisbury was running through the Zoo and human waste was backflowing into exhibits and ultimately into the River at the Zoo. They had to install that valvue to guarantee it would never happen again, yet it wasn't printed in the Daily Times as being a problem in the past.
Look, I could go on and on throughout the three years I have been exposing wrong doings within the City of Salisbury. Certainly and especially around election time the Mayor and many others will once again promote the Blogs and as it was printed last week in the Daily Times, that nasty Joe Albero and the Dirty Dozen. Certainly they're going to bash us anywhere and everywhere they can. What I think is so stupid of the Daily Times and the Tilghman Administration is that this has failed them year after year and trust me Folks, I have the major hits/visitors at Salisbury News each and every day.
They want to connect Debbie Campbell & Terry Cohen to Joe Albero, so be it. Perhaps they should add, Rick Pollitt, John Cannon, Stevie Prettyman, Mike Lewis, Andy Harris, Jim Fineran, Fernando Guerrero, Hal Chernoff, the Salvation Army, the Humane Society, shall I go on? The way I see it is, Gary Comegys was a part of the Humane Society as President for many years, did HE adopt out as many animals in his many years there as I have in a few months? If YOU can't respect the names above as honorable men and women of this community, I don't know what to tell you. Debbie and Terry don't deserve these kind of attacks but don't you find it interesting how Debbie is getting ready to run for her second term and they want to connect them with Joe Albero? Please, I beg of you and I have asked this question over and over again and get no response. Please tell me what Barrie Tilghman has done good for the City of Salisbury in the past 12 years? I can receipt numerous things the above names have done for our community. Please entertain me with her successes.
I'm not going to sit here and play a Saint. I have been ONE MAN fighting against the Daily TGimes AND the Tilghman Administration for the rights of the Citizens of Salisbury. I have been arrested numerous times for BS charges and I have had to front over $150,000.00 in CASH for legal representation. Like Joe Albero or not, what exactly am I gaining from doing all of this Folks? Does the Daily Times just not get it? Are they simply that stupid to believe if you bash someone enough that they'll simply go away? For many that may work but for this Bronx Man, they pushed the wrong button and I have watched FAR too many of my associated, (the Dirty Dozen) get trampled on and lose.
Salisbury News is an alternative, by choice! No one is charging you to visit. No one is putting a gun to your head and forcing thousands upon thousands of people to come here each and every day! Some say, you get what you pay for. Salisbury News is FREE! If you don't like it here, don't come back.
Some continue to bash me anonymously, that's their right. However, NOT ONE of them will do so with their name attached to it, that's how scared they are of me. You can easily assume some of these people could be the Mayor and Police Chief themselves, right? Just what kind of recourse would I have IF one of them actually had the balls to put their name on their comments. Joe Albero has the balls because I can back what I state, they can't! So call me a liar all you want. Bash me all you want. There was a time when the Citizens would believe ANYTHING the Daily Times printed or the Mayor stated. Those days are GONE and those are the top reasons why there's so much negativity out there about me.
On a final note. IF I was doing such a poor job and IF I was so wrong all the time, where are all the lawsuits? A Mayor who is an Elected Public Figure sues a Taxpayer for his opinion? Have that many of you forgotten your rights here in America? Does everyone remember when my Father In Law would write a Letter to the Editor of the Daily Times for years and at the very end they would say, Art Goetz is the Father of Jennifer Albero who is suing the City of Salisbury? Are you people that stupid! They have had an agenda for Barrie Tilghman for YEARS! There was no reason for them to put that information out there unless they were kissing the Mayors Axx!
This Mayor of Salisbury is not running again for Office because she knows the majority of the Citizens have been reading Salisbury News and they know the truth now. Some people can't handle the truth and Barrie Tilghman is one of those people.
I'm not here to be your best friend. I don't have this Blog to force everyone to believe every word I produce. I am here to open your minds. I am here to be a part of the solutions and walk the walk. My name is on the line here every single day, which is more than I can say about the Mayor of Salisbury using the Daily Times as her tool to take good people down. What this Mayor did to Tim Spies in the last election was about the most sickening and desperate move I have ever seen her make. Shame on the Daily Times for continuing to push that agenda and I for one am very proud of the fact that my readership is as good, if not better than the Daily Times and their impact on others is at least questionable now.
The mere fact the Daily Times refuses to put up www.sbynews.com on the comments on their Site clearly shows you just how afraid they are of one man with a Blog. The Citizens are winning and the Tilghman Administration is crumbling. Thanks for your support Folks. Long Live The Blogs!

Ban the bloggers?????? 1. Blogs are protected by the 1st amendment.
2. Why do you not want to hear the truth and not be spoon fed pure crap like the rest of America?

Yes, the blogs are generally very opinionated. However, since you read the DT you should realize that the DT and all MSM are also very opinionated. There is no investigative reporting done in any of the local media. Any articles published are done so with the approval of the editor, so it is all based on his or her opinion of what should be reported. It is up to the reader to try to sort out what, if anything, is being reported with truth and accuracy. In my opinion, none of it is. Most is half (or less) true, and very little of the major articles locally reported are anywhere near being 100% accurate.

" What does the cyber-bully have to gain by targeting the mayor of Salisbury, MD when he in fact lives in Delmar, DE? "

Which is what the DT has done in the past. So what is the difference?

My Personal Wish For Americans In 2009
My Personal Wish for 2009 is to recognize that as tough as things may get this year, we must not ignore those who are having it even tougher. My wish is that America will take care of its own while we repair all the damage that has happened here and recoup our original beliefs in which made America such a great Country to start with. All too often we see fundraiser's going out to other Countries while good hard working Americans continue to lose their homes and jobs. Americans taking care of Americans. Buy products made in America, even if it costs more. My hope is that we can pull out of Iraq when the timing is right and hopefully that is this year. Our investment there is too serious just to walk away. However, these Troops need to come home, get a good home cooked meal and visit with their Families. My hope is that the Salisbury Airport is loaded with Citizens welcoming home our Soldiers, respecting all these men and women who have given u p so much for our freedom. We're in for some very tough times ahead and together we can survive by helping one and all, no matter your race or beliefs. We need to become that great Nation we once were and stop allowing our Government to rule since we are, "We The People." We are Americans in the greatest Country on Earth. No more talk about it, let's show the rest of the world what we're all about. Happy New Year to you all and may God Bless America.
WBOC Reports Fire 24 Hours Later

Mardela Springs Family Displaced by Fire
01/01/2009 12:30 PM ET
MARDELA SPRINGS, Md.- A smoldering cigarette appears to be the cause of a New Year's Eve fire that left a Mardela Springs family homeless, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
The fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m. at a one-story home on Sharptown Road. It took 20 firefighters from the Mardela Springs, Sharptown and Hebron fire companies about 10 minutes to get the blaze under control.
The fire cause an estimated $100,000 in damage to the home and an additional $20,000 in damage to its contents. There were no reported injuries.
Investigators say the fire started when a sofa in the living room erupted in flames. They also ruled the fire accidental as the result of discarded smoking materials.
The family was displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by family members. A family dog perished in the blaze."
Remember the Breaking News story we produced about this fire yesterday? We broke that story HERE at 1:14 PM. The story finally hit WBOC today but here's what I found interesting about it. It was delivered to WBOC by the Fire Marshal's Office for starters. They read it here on Salisbury News and rather than going to the scene they contacted the Fire Marshal and got whatever details they needed to make it look like they were delivering their viewers something.
Then I also noticed a couple of other things that bothered me. There are other people out there, (MICHAEL) who are constantly talking about having a degree in journalism and how these people are professionals at telling the news. OK, if this is the case, why do they say no one was injured, yet one dog died and the other was rushed to the Veterinary Hospital in an Ambulance? Professionals! Why weren't they on the scene?
I mean, look at it like this. Before Salisbury News they used to have to get off their tails, (and I mean all the MSM) and go to these scenes and cover the news. Now all they have to do is sit at a desk and wait for the non college educated Blogger without a degree in journalism deliver the news and then they just call the Fire Marshal a day later. Then they go and charge all their sponsors for advertising with commercials on the show for information already produced by us for FREE 24 hours earlier.
So I say to those nay sayers of Salisbury News, how do you explain all of this? How do we lay it out there for them and yet they still get it wrong? I'll tell you why Michael. Because they're NOT professionals out there on the street looking and digging for stories on their own. They got it wrong because they ONLY contacted the Fire Marshal and not the Fire Department or the Family who's home was severely damaged.
Does WBOC actually think that their viewers don't care about the animals harmed or killed in these fires? I'd even go so far as to say my guess would be that at least 80% of their viewers own an animal and do care about them as well. So, if they're so professional, how can they say no one was injured?
Being that it's a slow day today for news, they also waited almost a full 24 hours after the fire actually happened and almost 24 hours after Salisbury News broke the story before the shared their own version of the story. WBOC is starting to look more and more like the Daily Times every day.
WE at Salisbury News do feel for these animals as well as the family displaced by this fire and if there's anything WE can do to help this Family please don't hesitate to contact us. This is 2009 and as Americans interested in helping the less fortunate and rebuilding America, we want to help in any way we can. Forgive me for speaking for all of our readers here but I'm sure they would want to help too.

Drinking In A Cab & Driving?
A Letter to the Editor:
"Anyone else get picked up by a "City Cab" last night with a male driver and two male passengers already in the cab and drinking beer?"
They went on to say:
"Ask City Cab why the driver had his buddies in the car with him and who they were."
It should be noted that this Cab Company is NOT the same company in Ocean City. They are two completely different companies with two different owners. In fact, (so I'm told) the Salisbury company will be changing their name very soon. The company mentioned above is currently the City Cab in Salisbury.
