Federal law. Read.

So now they are down 4 officers due to crime and corruption?

It should be 5 to 10 with the chief and all supervisors of these corrupt little thugs.

Does anyone else think it is time for the City of Salisbury to dissolve their municipal police department and let the County take over with a Wicomico County Police Department? Have a large countywide police department and reduce the size of the Sheriff's Department allowing them to do court duties as well as a task force assisting the U.S. Marshal tasked with capturing fugitives, serving arrest warrants and transporting prisoners. The Sheriff's Office should also go back to being in charge of the Wicomico County Detention Center. That's right, the Sheriff's Office should take over the county detention center again. Make all corrections officers county deputies with their duties involving corrections at the jail.

All counties in Maryland with a County Executive has a County Police Department and a Sheriff's Office.

I think it's time for the City to dissolve the city charter and become One Wicomico. No more mayor and city council and no more double taxes.

Nothing to see here. Move along!

They have brought up a county police force for the past several decades. Fiscally it make sense but do you want it to be an elected position. It may be bad now but what if the sheriff was the one in the hot seat. Instead of removing an appointed person now ypu would need to wait until the next election and the the sheriff would need what 15% of the county voters to come out (due to low voter participation) and be elected again. Does the city really want to give up their control of law enforcement if only a change of leadership is needed. If you really want to make your tax dollars more efficient, research a metro PD. A large amount of the county population is inside a metro area. Why should the rural area absorb the cost of dense urban area.

While I would accept the "aggravated menacing", as a juror, I would not vote to convict on the "possession of a firearm" regardless of the circumstances...for a number of reasons...: 1. As a law enforcement officer (still innocent until proven guilty), he is most likely authorized to carry while off duty. 2. This would set a bad precedent for any future conviction where a firearm is present...tack on a few extra gun charges to make it seem worse! 3. The second amendment clearly states "shall NOT be infringed"! Until "they" figure out how to keep guns away from criminals "we" should always be allowed the potential to defense of our lives and property!

7:02 you nailed it

County Police departments have a chief, who is appointed. The county would still have to maintain a Sheriff's Office for Court's and civil papers.

Anonymous said...

He essentially committed a robbery, with a firearm. Throw the book at him.

Anonymous said...

Hey here is a thought, lets pressure the city, county and state to make it so cops need to have insurance, paid by themselves not tax payers in order to be a cop, and lets also pressure the city, county and state to start NOT PAYING these pieces of shit while they are being investigated, which we know they will investigate themselves and find no wrong doing, every time!!!!

Anonymous said...

County police AND County Sheriff? That's more redundant than what we have now with City police in the County. How about JUST the Sheriff's department? And make sure the Sheriff is subject to recall on any day.

Anonymous said...

2:32am, exactly what I think too.

Anonymous said...

7:54 county and state police are constantly in the city so you already pay for it

Ummm.... There is a difference in a County Police force and a County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff can't and won't do both!

This is what the previous post said:
"Have a large countywide police department and reduce the size of the Sheriff's Department allowing them to do court duties..."

Nowhere does this say the Sheriff would run both. I know your comprehension skills are off a little so maybe you should refrain from voting and commenting on here in the future!

You don’t no ANYTHING about the case but coming up with verdicts. Lol.

Hes not charged with possession of a firearm. He's charged with possessing it while committing a felony. They know the law better than the average citizen who is ALSO supposed to have a right to bear arms and police SHOULD be held to a higher standard.

Is that you Jake Day or Manure Bota?? It has to be one of you clowns defending your PO PO Department. A change of leadership has happened since Dykes and that was 3 police chiefs that brought nothing to the table but trouble. Yes, a change of leadership is needed and that is a County Police Chief running all of the Counties police departments.

And while we are at it we can change the City Charter by dissolving it. Taht is the change of leadership that is needed in the city.

That is correct and put the department of corrections back under the Sheriff's Office and you can eliminate that department head. This is a win win situation for everyone.

Carrying a firearm and assaulting someone with a firearm are two different things.

Anonymous said...

I do KNOW plenty. Like the fact he robbed, while carrying a firearm, the victim. Must be another SPD fanboy sticking up for all the corruption leaking out of that sinking ship.

Anonymous said...

If you check the daily and monthly statistics you will find that the sheriff does most of the policing in Salisbury leaving SPD free to do their thing with no oversight..

Anonymous said...

funny if it is on video....

He didn't ROB the victim he branded the victim with fear of firearms and police especially SPD

The article states he has been with spd 11 years and was suspended with pay since january 29th. Mid 90's were 15 years ago.

Over money....robbery....moron

Anonymous said...

While all this is going on, a deep dive looking into the recruitment/hiring vetting process would be a good way ahead. Need to avoid any past lather rinse repeat type mistakes, especially when positions open for new recruitment efforts. Drain the dirty swamp, top down.

There WASN'T a ROBBERY "MORON"

Even with a legal firearm, they don't know how to legally use it. Figures....

9:09 you hit nail on head but have to remember Jack will never remove her. He will allow his political career to fail rather then make a command decision and remove her or even convince her to just leave on her own. He does not have the command nature to make touch decisions. That’s why he will be nothing more then a mayor that has failed at this job as well. Good leaders emerge and are strong during tough times. Jake is weak and won’t and has not made good decisions about this SPD issues. Think about it salisbury, when has Jake made a tough decision ? Never. He will let this ride like the rest of all the issues. We all know this one will cost him his political career. No one will let him forget this one and his inability to make a change.

Simple plan County Police force. Let the Sheriff go back to serving papers and court security give him the jail as well. There would be numerous quality candidates if you have a county force. Have a police commissioner that answers to a board comprised of local leadership and citizens. This duplication of services is ridiculous. Bring is someone who is progressive and made it past the rank of Sgt at another department. No more retired Brown Clowns. Gary Baker, Mark Tyler, Ivan Barkley just to name a few would be great. Oh I would be re-missed if I left out Lee Stevens and Mark Wagner.

Anonymous said...

Gary baker, Mark Tyler and Ivan Barkley? What have you been smoking?! Three do nothing yes men.

Anonymous said...

Lee Stevens is an outstanding officer and man, he's AWESOME

Yes remember him well and he’s a good guy. Shame this happened to him.

It's not the first SPD cop to be arrested. Remember Sparpaglione?

That is one of the dumbest statements ever.

7:01 33,000 people on “da bury” and only about 2000 voted. “Da bury” deserves Jake Day🙄

Stephen Smith said...

It's policy that you are on paid leave until you are cleared, or charged...hence assumed innocent until proven guilty. Once he was actually charged, his pay stopped.

Wrong. Harford County does not have both.
