"..high concentration of thefts and rapes annually.."
#4 Ocean City

Wow 4 months = annually
Wow...rape?

Sorry I aint buying this one. Yes, there are MANY challenges within OC proper (i.e., City Hall, their STILL archaic mindsets, the existing gauge factor, building boom in West OC because rent is too high on the isle, etc etc) but a high concentration of rape..annually??

That's hard to digest!

There are enough rapes in 4 months that it has enough to compete with every other city's annual numbers.

A few weeks ago Mayor Meehan made a big front-page splash because he walked around the boards from 8-10PM and declared it "safe." This was after weeks of criticism concerning the sad state of boardwalk affairs and downtown as well. The problem with Meehan and the entire city council is that they KNOW the problems start at 10PM. Not one of those people has ever been seen on the boards after then. You sure don't see their families down there either (late at night).

They are all popular people in town. No one calls them out. The police have been instructed to be lenient. No arrests = low crime stats. There is the thug element that has invaded the town, yet the mayor and council do nothing. Tourists are shocked at what they see, and tourism has steadily declined in OC over the last several years. It's an easy connection to make.

Yet the mayor, Susan Jones, and Jessica Walters and other spokespeople deny that. Even business owners deny it when their statements might become public. People who have operated businesses in OC for ten years or more know the truth, but publicly won't rock the boat. The intimidation, harassment, and outrageous ghetto behavior is ruining this town.

God forbid, but one of these days the wrong son or daughter or wife will pay the price for Meehan & Co.'s policy of advertising in the regional ghettoes and refusing to rein in the thugs. It will finally be a big deal then. Of course, he and his cohorts will take no personal responsibility. But it will be their fault.

There should not be any crime in Salisbury with the high rent don't know how people can afford to live here we can think the wonderful college for that

Anonymous said...

They afford it by collecting benefits and stealing from those that work.

It certainly looks like downtown Salisbury is a bustling, healthy downtown, just look at all the people.

How about comparing OC to other, similar resort towns?
These stats about OC - compared to other cities and towns in MD - are ridiculous.
I defy anyone to tell me a safer town in MD than Ocean City that has over 300,000 people on a DAILY basis.
Or...better yet, let's compare the crime stats in the month of, say, December or January, with any town with over 300,00 people.
If you just turn the statistics around - which is basing the crime stats on a (local) population of 7,000 citizens - to the off-season months, AND still figure in the 300,000 people, then you would get OC rated as the absolute safest town in the state.
I defy anyone to prove me wrong on this.

1:06:
You said, "The intimidation, harassment, and outrageous ghetto behavior is ruining this town."
The exact same thing (except for the word "ghetto") was said about those dirty Hippies of the 60's hanging out on 9th Street, doing drugs, panhandling, and sleeping under the Boardwalk.
We, and the Town, are still here, enjoying our vacations - now with the grand-kids.
The more things change, the more it stays the same.

12:19 is correct.
The numbers are based on a static population of 7,000, not taking into consideration that for two or three months a year it's the 2nd largest city in the state

Those dirty hippies didn't openly threaten people because of their skin color, deliberately block walkways in large groups, start vicious fights, or commit a wildly disproportionate number of tapes and murders. They may have been a nuisance, but they were rarely violent.

Most of them have grown up now...they are our parents!
