Officer trial raises questions about policing in Baltimore
Nero, 30, who opted for a bench trial over a jury trial, was one of the bike officers who were on patrol and were involved in the initial arrest of Freddie Gray on April 12, 2015.
Gray suffered a fatal neck injury at some point after being placed in a police transport van that day. Gray died on April 19, 2015 and anger over his death helped spark last year's riots.
Prosecutors argued during Nero's six-day trial that Nero, a former volunteer EMT and firefighter who has been with the Baltimore Police Department since 2012, committed a crime when he, along with Officer Garrett Miller and Lt. Brian Rice arrested and handcuffed Gray without probable cause after Gray ran unprovoked from police.
The state added that Nero committed reckless endangerment when he failed to seatbelt Gray in the transport van and that placed him in the position that led to his fatal injuries.
Nero's attorney Marc Zayon argued that the law allows for such a stop in high crime areas, Nero only touched Gray once and the police transport van driver, Officer Caesar Goodson, was ultimately responsible for placing a seat belt on Gray.

Justice served.
May the riots be dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
let the riots begin. Again, they have an excuse to riot....
Bring on the riots!!! Idiots!!
Well, at least the rain stopped, so it is nice weather for a bonfire.
11:18 - they never needed an excuse to riot before!
Maybe this time, they'll crack a few heads before the fires start!
Time for Mosby to be fired for her race-based incompetence.
I would let them go ahead a riot as long as they keep it in their own neighborhoods. That's what happened last time. They were allowed to basically crap in their own nests but when they stepped over the line into the areas where civilized people live, work and visit, they were immediately thrown to the ground, handcuffed, arrested and held for more bail then the Innocent Baltimore 6 officers. I say let them riot because they all deserve to be wallowing in the filthy crime ridden poverty stricken cess pools of their own creations.
Like I've been saying over and over and over. God will NOT forsaken the good and righteous and allow the evil to prevail.
All you black lives matter people and the race baiters from places like the naacp you better get the hell down on your knees, repent and beg for forgiveness because God is had it with you all. He has had it. He's very angry and has been showing how angry with all the black on black murders the evil wicked people aren't seeing it. Now He's showing these devils here on earth that good will prevail.
Won't be long....just wait until school lets out this afternoon. That's how long it took the last time. The young thugs will go on their rampage this evening. If the media keeps their cameras off of them, they will go home for lack of an audience. Though I'm not so sure the media wants that outcome.
JUSTICE !!!!!!!! ALL LIVES MATTER
You guys must understand something , they don't believe in our law , they feel they are above the law , after all , they were slaves , 150 years ago.
I disagree 3:52. It's like the Middle East countries. We can't take a completely different culture and try and turn our values onto them. It doesn't work. They are African Americans and there is a reason why African comes first. White Europeans who built civilizations and industry took people living in ramshackled huts out of a lawless society to be slaves. When they were freed only a few were able to adapt to a civil society and that is why we are where we are today and why the inner cities are like war zoned lawless Africa. Look at the African countries still today. Lawlessness and poverty abounds and is the norm.
That's a crock. There isn't a slave alive today in this country. When they were freed 150 years ago, they next became citizens. Then the laws were their laws. Same laws for everybody.
