Md. Police Dept. Adds Nearly Silent Motorbikes To Fleet

BOWIE, Md. -- Blue lights may be flashing in your rearview mirror, but if a motorcycle police officer is hot on your trail in Bowie, Maryland, you may not hear the familiar throaty engine rumble.

The Bowie Police Department has become the first in Maryland to deploy quiet, energy-efficient electric motorcycles. The city has purchased two.

Situated between the District and Annapolis, the city of nearly 55,000 has plenty of open space.

"Bowie has 13 parks and over 50 miles of trails," explains Police Chief John Nesky. "This is going to help us cover both the trails and the patrol streets."

Is it any wonder the State has a $400M deficit when the Government spends $22000 for an electric scooter?

The future of electric motorcycles is only hampered by battery storage. The engine of a recently new American electric motorcycle company (I forgot the name?) according to the professional racer who drove it in an all electric m/c race on an island on Wales said that it had so much torque that if it wasn't limited it would rip a rider right off the bike. While racing it he said it was the closest thing to flying that he's ever experienced. He was later killed at another race on a gasoline powered superbike. The electric m/c race is on youtube. I think the race was 200 miles? not certain. In ending the gasoline superbikes do not begin to have the power of the newest electric bikes as well the cars like Tesla with a 300 mile range. Full charge under $10. Drag racing? Slams Vetts, Porsche 911's, Maserati's etc. The future is electric and the biggest holdback is not just battery storage it's the fear from oil companies, oil countries, they try to stand in the way (manipulate legislation) because when electric happens, they disappear. Do a little reading before slamming the door on the future. Electric is only getting started. They're a big player in transportation in India already. Watch the race, it's impressive.

"The future of electric motorcycles is only hampered by battery storage"

I've been hearing that same line for 40 years.
When will you give it up?

Yep freedom from having to buy a fuel is paramount to their survival..thats why they are behind hydrogen cars ..electric frees us from that enslavement..keep drinking that oil flavored kool aid..we can send men to the moon..so i know the battery problem can be solved

It's no secret that electric motors, especially DC, have tremendous torque and efficiency but if they don't have a power cord they are extremely limited because of the battery situation. Who would buy a Corvette with a 2 quart gas tank?

Part of the reason motorcycle engines can be heard is that they should be heard. The engine sound helps warn the driver of the approach or the other drivers on the road. Another POS decision.

In the 1980's Melvin Joseph in Georgetown Delaware had a diesel engine that would deliver over 100 mpg consistently. He was rich, in the inner circle, owned Melvin Joseph Construction, built Delaware highways etc. When he pushed for mass production, he was squashed, not able to proceed any further. There he had a product that all of us need and want yet as big as he was, was stopped dead in his tracks. Why? Because oil companies want guzzlers and so do politicians because of gas tax revenues. Now if his vehicle used diesel, even at a lesser rate, what do you think those same people have in mind for electric (no petroleum) propelled vehicles, car or bike. It's always about the money, NOT the technology that already available. Right here on SBYNews was a story telling the VW plant here in the US that has a high MPG diesel engine that the manufacture, yet that engine is NOT allowed to be put in our vehicles. Case closed, we're screwed by the aholes we elect.
