(FEDERALSBURG, MD) – Maryland State Police homicide investigators have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the murder of a 25 year old man in Caroline County.
The suspect arrested is identified as James Bolden, 55, of Federalsburg, Maryland. He is currently being held in police custody at the Federalsburg Police Department, awaiting transport to the Office of the Court Commissioner. After consultation with the Caroline County State’s Attorney, State Police homicide investigators charged Bolden with first degree murder.
Bolden is charged in connection with the death of Timothy Darnell Smith, Jr., 25, of the 100 block of Brooklyn Avenue in Federalsburg. At 8:00 p.m. last night, officers from the Federalsburg Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call from a nearby resident who heard the gunshot. The responding police officers found Smith with a gunshot wound to his chest and immediately attempted medical treatment at the scene. Smith was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was later transported to the Georgetown Delaware Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning, Bolden was located at a residence in the 300 block of Park Avenue in Federalsburg and taken into custody by members of the Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team. He was transported to the Federalsburg Police Department where he has been in police custody since.
Video footage from a nearby camera provided a vehicle description for the car, reportedly in the area at the time of the incident. Investigators located the vehicle, which subsequently resulted in locating the suspect in the shooting. Police do not have a motive for the murder at this time.
Investigators continue to interview area residents about what they may have seen or heard. Anyone who may have been driving in the area of Academy Street and Main Street between 7:30 p.m and 8:00 p.m., yesterday is urged to contact Maryland State Police homicide investigators at the Easton Barrack 410-822-3101 or the Federalsburg Police Department 410-754-8966.
