State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit Investigating a Fatal Crash near Georgetown

Georgetown, DE – Troopers assigned to the Sussex County Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a late morning crash that claimed the life of a Millsboro woman.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:04 a.m. today as Charles J. Herrmann, 80 of Millsboro, was operating a 2014 Kia Sedona eastbound on Governor Stockley Road approaching East Piney Grove Road. Theodore C. McNamara, 42 of Lincoln, was operating a 2003 Chevy Silverado westbound on Governor Stockley Road approaching East Piney Grove Road when Herrmann began turning left onto East Piney Grove Road and into the path of the Silverado. The front right corner of the Sedona was struck by the front of the pickup truck within the westbound lane before both vehicles came to a stop off the northwest corner of the intersection.

Charles Herrmann was properly restrained and was transported by EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Virginia L. Straut, 83 of Millsboro, was properly restrained in the front passenger's seat of the Kia Sedona and was airlifted by State Police Aviation (Trooper 2) to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Theodore McNamara was properly restrained and was uninjured in the collision.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in this collision and the investigation into this incident is on-going. Traffic in the area was impacted for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
