Harington, DE – Troopers have arrested a Maryland man after left his child unattended in the car while he was inside the casino gambling.
Troopers responded to the Harrington Raceway and Casino located at 15 West Rider Road, Monday September 1, 2014 around 12:05 p.m. after a call was received from a manager about a child left unattended in a car parked in a handicapped parking spot with the engine still running. The casino manager was initially contacted by a patron who noticed the car running and upon looking in the window, noticed the child in a car seat behind the front passenger’s seat. Troopers were able to gain access into the vehicle, as the doors were unlocked, and remove the 14-month-old female from the automobile. She did not appear to be in distress or need medical attention.
A page was put out in the casino for the owner of the vehicle and around 1:30 p.m.,Justin K. Middleton, 26 of Preston, Maryland, responded to the car. He was taken into custody without incident and initially denied leaving the baby in the car. He later recanted his story and informed troopers he left his young daughter in the car while he was inside gambling. Middleton was transported back to Troop 3 and charged with Reckless Endangering 1st, Unattended Motor Vehicle, and Parking in a Handicapped Space. He was arraigned at JP7 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $2,505.00 secured bond. A no contact order was also issued with his young daughter.
The 14-month-old was turned over to a relative from the Harrington area until the mother could arrive to take custody.

But we want more casinos, they will save our economy and fund our schools until oblivion.
PLEASE for the sake of all that is decent and moral ...do NOT let that man have a second chance to kill that child. Our criminal justice system will probably let him go and he will be doing worse in weeks. I really am moved to tears by this one. Anybody could have taken the car and the child and done God knows what with both. Lock him up and take the child.
This reminds me of how mothers plead with officials when divorced fathers are not fit to see their children but it appears that anyone is deemed fit if he can produce sperm. The court will give a child to anyone because they are a blood relative. In this country children are still property and are sometimes treated by the courts in a very inhumane way. Hope this time it ends differently...but I doubt it will.
