Harper Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison

GEORGETOWN — The first of three teens facing trial for kidnapping and carjacking a 89-year old woman in March 2013 has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Rondaiges Harper, 19, was convicted June 26 of first-degree carjacking, first-degree kidnapping and two counts of conspiracy for his role in locking Margaret Smith, now 90, in the truck of her car for two days before dumping her in an isolated cemetery.

In handing down the sentence, Delaware Superior Court Judge Richard Stokes said, “Mr. Harper, you have little respect for the law. I find you to be a dangerous person.”

Harper was facing a maximum of 66 years in prison. Prosecutor Melanie Withers asked Stokes for a sentence of about 15 years. But Stokes, taking into account the nature of the crime and Harper’s previous arrests for theft, shoplifting and assault, gave Harper the maximum of 25 years for kidnapping and five years for carjacking. Harper also received two years probation for the conspiracy charges and must complete six years of work release as part of his sentence.

Permanently on the dole from now on...what a waste of taxpayer's money - and productive people's oxygen. In some states (maybe a couple of years ago too), this would have earned the offender a hangman's noose. Aaaaah, the good old days!

We should be shipping our life prisoners and long term ones off to Mexico, and let them keep them. They lock up American's for crossing the boarder, and we don't want these guys back. This would be good for relations between the two countries, they could get a dose of their own medicine!

Actually I'm with 5:44PM public hanging for this POS. But, what leaks me off most is that the judge didn't add 'ineligible for parole' to insure that this degenerate puke won't be back on the street in 8 years.

Delaware does not have parole so the judge did not have to add that

Little respect for the law? How about little respect for human life, leaving an 89 year old woman locked in her car's trunk while he and his pals partied while driving the car around town for two days, then dumping her in a graveyard. To call him an animal would be disrespectful to animals.

His sentence should start out with 5-10 in solitary!

zap him...goodnight...

what a p. o s. let him die the same way he let that poor woman breathe in the trunk...

It should be 30 years of hard labor. Maybe if we made them do something they really don't seem to want to do they would stop this crap.
