I am an avid reader of your blog, even though I am a Talbot county resident. I find your updates and the election coverage about the local area interesting. I recently booked a small getaway for me and my kids at the royalton hotel in ocean city through popular website expedia. We are trying to save money, and the hotel's appearance on expedia was certainly pleasing for a budget hotel. When we got there, things took a turn for the worse. The hotel must be the worst hotel in Ocean City, if not the eastern shore of Maryland!

Why do you say that, what happened that made you want to give a bad review of the hotel.
Has been since I last visited in 1994.
Where are the details explaining why the hotel was so terrible?
There was a death there this week too.

Maybe you should have contacted a travel agent to help you with your reservations. I am certain they would not recommend a property that is at the bottom of the list (read Trip Advisors...#103 out of #107) with 107 being the worse. Bugs in the mattresses.....
Look at the reviews. It's the ONLY way to go. Price doesn't matter, we learned.
Years ago we made reservation at a Days Inn in another state. There were several other chains in the area and prices were basically the same. Got there and the clientele resembled prison inmates, condoms in parking lot and beer cans. Unsavory people hanging over balcony clearly under the influence of something. Room horrible. Turns out the hotel accepted government emergency housing vouchers. Left went down the street to the Holiday Inn. Police were there. Went over and told them our story about the Days Inn and asked about the Holiday Inn. Turns out same thing. They as well accepted the vouchers. Police directed us to another hotel locally that didn't accept the vouchers.

Why would you want to go to Ocean City to start with? Beach vacation to me does not mean Ocean City, that would be at the bottom of the list.
Should always read the reviews at TripAdvisor before making any Hotel or Motel reservation anywhere. Nice Hotels on the boardwalk this time of year even during the week are $250/night or higher.

You get what you pay for. If you are that poor you need to stay home. Cheap skate.
If someone else is paying for my vacation I'll take a lovely beach any time. When it is on my $ I'm going to try to go on the cheap if possible. Managing money is important to me...but I am careful. I would not go to OC. Too much of a party town.
It always amuses me to read posts from people who badmouth OC - mostly because of being "too much of a party town".
It all depends on what you are looking for in a vacation.
Personally, I prefer the nighttime hustle and bustle of an old fashioned carnival-type resort when I vacation.
The people that say "it's too crowded" and say there's a "bad class of people" vacationing in Ocean City should just set up a lawn chair in your backyard and fire up the grill for your vacation. You'll save a ton of money.
Maybe for me someday the honky-tonk vacation will lose it's excitement, but not yet. I'm only 64.

Most cheap hotels have bed bugs and cockroaches. Like everyone says you get what you paid for. Cheapskate!!
The only nice 'Ocean City' is in New Jersey. It truly is a 'family' town. It also is a 'dry' town, so you will not be able to buy any alcohol there. Which makes it even nicer.
Ocean City, Md. is for people who have more money than sense and few to no morals.
If you want to get drunk, high, laid, arrested, assaulted or killed, then that is the place for you.

FYI.... Retired CPA for a Virginia brokerage firm. Married 43 years. No kids. Active in our church and as a volunteer for our county's Citizen's Patrol. In short, pretty much a typical OC vacationer - one of the throngs that visit (and live) here that you don't hear about or ever make the news.
Well 4:17 its nice that you don't have kids, but this 37 year old mother of 2 does not go to Ocean City until the off season because it is a trashy place, at least until the middle of September.
