BERLIN -- A Berlin woman succumbed to injuries she received in a single-vehicle accident on Route 50 near Holly Grove Rd. in West Ocean City this morning.
Around 8:12 a.m. on Friday, Maryland State Police responded to a single-vehicle accident on eastbound Route 50 just west of Holly Grove Rd. The investigation revealed the vehicle, driven by Melanie Eve Welton, 44, of Berlin, left the travel lanes of the roadway and struck a tree.
Welton was transported by ambulance to Atlantic General Hospital where she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The MSP was assisted at the scene by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident closed Route 50 in both directions for several hours throughout the morning on Friday. By 11 a.m., or roughly three hours after the crash, police were still on the scene.

It is a shame.. this section of rt 50 is very dangerous.. 4 traffic lights bunching up vehicles on a 55 mph highway with cars pulling out onto it from walmart has always been a recipe for disaster.

Not texting. She was talking on the phone whith her husband while it happened. They were seperated. Idk what they were talking about. Was in the e.r. and overheard it. So sad. Can only imagine talking to someone when something like that happens.

In reply to the reply, that information is private(if you are true or not) and you should not put that on here. How rude and disrespectful. To the news source, please remove it out of respect and privacy to the family. If anyone wants to say they are sorry to hear about the death and accident, that is nice. Otherwise keep it to yourself.
