Double the EMS Service, and 24/7 Vol FF.

What is your point with this. You do realize that a fire department runs for than just fire calls right?

Do you realize just what turning the SFD into a volley service would do to the city's economy. Yes it would save money buy not paying for the department to be staffed but did you ever think of the businesses the city would loose. Almost every single business north of the mall has a contract with the city stating that there has to be a paid and staffed fire department within so miles of their business.

at least they have no flat spot . and we only need 60 plus paid firemen to prevent them .

That is the biggest like that I have ever seen. You little thugs will do anything to justify your jobs. I say fire every damn one them.

I've got an idea. Produce the contract!!!

B.S. SHOW ME THE CONTRACTS. IT MAY IMPACT THE INSURANCE RATING.I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROVISION AND I DOUBT THAT ANYONE ELSE HAS. IF SO WHAT DON'T OTHER INCORPORATED CITIES HAVE SUCH "BOGUS CONTRACTS" I.E.- DELMAR, PITTSVILLE, OCEAN CITY, BERLIN. YOU ARE JUST BLOWING SMOKE TO KEEP YOUR JOB. ANOTHER OF THE UNEDUCATED,UNINFORMED AND I AM SURE AN EMPLOYEE OF THE SALISBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT. JUST KEEP RIDING THE AMBO AND LET THE REAL FIREMEN, THE DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS, HANDLE THE FIRES. AND BY THE WAY IT'S LUNCH TIME, TIME TO ROTATE THE FLAT SPOTS ON THE TIRES. WHAT WILL IT BE- SUBWAY, WAWA, BURGER KING?

As far back as 1947 the insurance underwriters recommended a staff of paid firefighters combined with Volunteers to provide service to the City. The current combination Career/Volunteer system offers the best value for service to the citizens of Salisbury. Insurance rates are based on many factors that evaluate apparatus, response times and staffing among others. Salisbury's rating is quite good.

An alarm has just been sounded for a building fire near K Mart. Station 16 Duty crew has responded. Station 1 volunteers responding with 4 men and station 2 has failed to respond and the volunteers are being realerted.

FF get all the perks off the medics sweat...then they complain about them.... you don't think that they GETALL that equipment from fire calls its from EMS CALLS.

Salisbury responded to a kitchen fire on Brynmar Dr. Engine 16 arrived to extinguish the fire. Station 1 responded with a truck and station 2 finally got out just before the re-alert. I doubt the homeowner knew or cared who got there first, but Salisbury's volunteer and career members were there and that's all that counts. Oh. One ambulance from Station 2 was on scene in case anyone got hurt.

First off I don't belong nor do I get paid for working at the SFD. I am a career and volunteer firefighter/paramedic at a few of the neighboring FDs.
Now tell me how hard has Berlin struggled to get larger business. What they have a Walmart and a Home Depot. Now tell me, where are there next closest competition, 20 miles away. For Ocean City, first off they have a paid fire crew, so your argument is invalid. Then you mention Pittsville? Really, what even moderately large businesses do they have.
Then you call me uneducated, I bet I'm educated enough to save you or your family members life if you were to have a medical emergency.
What can you do?

Since I am a firefighter/paramedic for a few of the neighboring FDs who absolutely rely on their EMS system for money, I'll agree with you. But what seems to be something that everyone in here seems to not understand is that every single paid (non administrative) personnel at the Salisbury FD are both firefighter certified and at least EMT licensed. They all rotate from the fire engine/truck to the ambulance. The only paid personnel that are on the fire truck more than others are the day crews at station 2 and 1. But even they rotate, just not as often.
