A bulk of many stores revenue comes from EBT, it's a double edge sword, means less sales and staff get hours cut back even more so the working people have less to spend. Let the trickle down begin, it's not the trickle down of money this time, it's trickle down of poverty.

It's not due to the gov't shutdown as others have said. The store should show more responsiblity and correct the misinformation on their sign otherwise they are showing how low information they are.
Don't cheer as several people from Delmar's Food Lion had to go put food back on the shelves and some of these were elderly. And ,yes, my in-lawwho works at Sam's has seen pajama people buying $100 cakes with stamps. Who do you want to punish?

Delmar Food Lion making an announcement every 5 minutes about can't use EBT card. 300 lb. princess in front of me had to return her crab cakes, New York strip steaks, 20-25 count shrimp, and 5 cans of Beefaroni ( dinner for her 2 year old). Got very upset. However, paid for pack of Newports and lottery tickets with a $50.00 dollar bill. And some people say I should show compassion for the poor. Not to mention the tattoos on her neck, arms, back and calfs.
People, not everyone that has to use SNAP is miss using it. I for one am retired and get $16.00 a month. I use it at Dollar Tree in the freezer area. Not the best but I am happy to get 16 items that I can eat. I do not buy beer, cigs, toilet paper or anything that I can't eat.. I do buy chicken nuggets/popcorn, eggs, cheese and soup. I would not think of buying anything but things to full my belly. map
How do you hack into it. I like to hack in at least twice a day.
I was shopping in Foodlion tonight & heard a similar announcement over the loud speaker. There was a gentleman near me & he was noticeable angered at the announcement. He had on nicer closes than I had on & I saw him walk out of Foodlion with nothing but anger on his face. Tuff is all I have to say. I paid for my grocery with a check & my own money.

I am truly sorry for those that really need the assistance. However, I hope this is a wake up call to those who have been working the system and taking our hard earned dollars while they sit back and relax.
I am sick and tired of seeing able-bodied individuals driving nice vehicles with fancy hairdos, dolled up nails, dripping gold jewelry doing NOTHING while I work to feed and house them. Someone has just GOT to get this country in order, and it clearly is not going to be Barack Obama. He's the problem. How intelligent folks could have voted him in not once, but twice is just beyond my comprehension. We are going down the tubes faster than lightening. :(

i just saw a story about this on the 11 o'clock news channel 4. they interviewed a woman who had been highly inconvenienced because she had to go to 5 different stores and couldn't get her groceries. she said she couldnt shop at the seafood place she usually goes to or the 7-11 or the Giant and a couple other places. i bet that clip will go viral. unbelievable

in my opinion, if you can afford to PURCHASE a membership to shop, you don't need help from the gov't.
I was at Wal-mart and the cashier complained that she had been returning food all day as a result of the EBT card system being down. She said that she didn't know how much that Wal-mart had lost in perishable goods - but it was a lot. And when I asked her about returning some of the frozen food items as to how long - and she responded;
'You don't even want to know'.

I think people are missing the real story here. The real story at least to me is how irresponsible this Dollar General Store is by posting such a sign based completely on assumption. Posting such a sign without having the facts really could have started a riot or some sort of violence among the unwashed masses and the blood would have been on their hands.

I truly believe that the entire Federal Government should be shut down and I will tell you why.
How many times have we heard the Obama administration say that he was going to get control of the budget. We have seen at least (3) debt extensions - possibly more - the last one being right before Obama's election whereby the Republicans 'LET HIM OFF THE ROPES.'
He campaigned saying that our debt was out of control at 7 trillion, then again, 9 trillion, now look at us 17 trillion. Sooner or latter someone has got to 'unplug.'
Now let us examine his solution - SEQUESTRATION CUTS. These were his own appointees. Now he sees he is trapped in his own corner by his own doings and wants to ELIMINATE THE SEQUESTION CUTS.
The President really needs to be recalled - and the sooner the better.

You all seem quite amused at this tragedy. Yes, a lot of you have valid points. However, there are many good people that receive foodstamps. Stereo typing people only shows your ignorance. And just because some miss use this system, doesn't mean every one does. You all seem forget the real problem. Our government shutdown because two parties can't agree on money ..yet, every one is still paying taxes. And our politicians are still getting paid. But not doing their jobs effectively. If I didn't do my job. Right I'd be fired. And personally I think they all should be!!!!!
