Sheriff Mike Lewis Gets His Way, Speed Cameras Are Coming All Over Wicomico County

Big Government just got bigger this morning as the County Council agreed to allow the Sheriff's Department to place speed cameras in school zones throughout Wicomico County.

Next on their list will probably be registrations and tags for bicycles in Wicomico County. Oh shoot, did I just give the Sheriff another idea to run with?

How else is he going to pay for the gas in his new ride. Oh I forgot we already do. Just more big brother.

Why not just do their job the old fashioned way and use a car with an officer in it, oh that would make too much sense. Now since the cameras are doing their jobs for them will the county see more patrols elsewhere???

I would rather see revenue come into the county through people breaking the law then through taxes!

Well maybe we need a few less officers sitting on the side of the road now. Can you say "layoff". Like computers have replaced many jobs in the public sector, the speed cameras can replace a couple sherrif deputies.

Thats why they make paint ball guns.

Starting to feel like the Soviet Union. The police state is here!

How about for every camera we put up we get rid of one cop.

Not any safer with all the speed cameras, more shootings than ever around here!

Perhaps they could concentrate on some REAL crime, like the 11 minute beating of a 13 year old girl in a gang initiation, where a VIDEO of the beating was taken and adults were involved in kicking and punching the young girl. This happened yesterday afternoon on Liberty St and the police are making arrests this afternoon. ELEVEN minutes!! Encouraged by ADULTS. And the sister of the victim (a deaf girl) has also been threatened by these same scum. But the police are "protecting" us with speed cameras, huh? I urge them to "protect" us with some foot patrols in high crime areas instead of looking for seat belt violations and speeders on the by-pass. Gangs are springing up, beating people on the street in broad daylight for ELEVEN minutes and WHERE are the police??? Good things those sub-human gangbanger thugs didn't do that to MY kids. I wouldn't ask the police for help, because I wouldn't need it. Start fighting REAL crime and quit trying to raise revenue. Of course, the police are AFRAID of actually walking a beat. Their fat asses couldn't walk a mile and would get their short ace whipped in a heartbeat. Protecting us, huh? From what? Not crime, obviously, THAT'S FOR SURE. The gangs have no fear of the police...they're never around. And notice, I sign my name.

Delmar saw this coming and beat Lewis to the punch. Had Salisbury likewise put these cameras up they would be getting the revenue. Not, instead, it is going to go to the county.

I recommend toll gates on all the streets in front of the schools. That way you get both things...slow traffic (for safety), and increase revenue (which is what all this is really about).

The first speed cameras in the county are in the City of Salisbury and the revenue goes to the city. If you haven't driven on College Ave lately you will see that traffic is much slower due to the Speed Cameras. Revenue has dropped off because now people are obeying the speed limit...which was the goal. It is the same in Fruitland where their speed camera is set up and in Princess Anne. Slow down and go the speed limit and no one will take a picture of you!

12:11 They don't want to get off their ass and do their job themselves. I think we should let the county go bankrupt and be done with them all.

Much to do about nothing! People are only angry because EVERYONE speeds EVERYTIME they get in a vehicle. Now all the cry babies might have to actually be responsible for their driving. boo hoo hoo, I might get caught because I'm a moron and can't read all the "photo enforced" warning signs.

good! i wish they would put them on back roads too! maybe ppl would slow down then!..or better yet..maybe they'd stay home!

Are the one's on Rt. 50 by WI Mid operational yet? They have the white boxes, but I have not seen any extra signage about them.

Remember this when his re-election comes around!

@ 3:24 You sound fun, lets hope you stay home too.

I'm all for traffic enforcement but speed cameras are nothing more than a quick cash grab.

The cameras arent for speeding at all. They will be there so Sheriff Mikey can get photos of himself. You know how he likes the camera! Though it certainly doesnt like him! Another publicity hungry official in this town! Looks like a miniature Village People cop in that get up he wears! I said "Young Man"!!!! lol

If your car can reach 87 mph you can go back in time to 1985.No speed cameras were around then.

If the cameras are REALLY, about safety and compliance, I would suggest the inverse of camera citations. That is, make it a points only violation! No fine!! Of course you could have your day in court, and pay for that privilege (court costs). In the end, the bad drivers would be off the roads or face higher insurance rates, and kids would be safe.

Seriously? Lay off officers because of speed cameras? I hope when and if you people ever call the police for something serious a speed camera shows up at your door to save you.

Wheres the list showing who voted yea or nea.... its time to vote these money hungry thugs out!!!!!

Why are you people so HUNG UP on the revenue, the justice of it, or the need..Hear me this is about freedom. Were does the line get drawn. They have gotten their big ass ugly foot in the door with this one.

If it were truly about speeding in school zones they wouldnt be redefining the zones....in an effort to place them where they'll get more citations {like 1/2m away on s div.}, instead of simply in front of the schools. Some of you think this is a good idea.....remember YOU are responsible when they start putting them on every road, every neighborhood.....

What happens if the camera catches someone on a cell phone? or not wearing a seatbelt? If it were truly about safety and NOT simply revenue....there would be much more policing going on. Get real...they are after the almighty dollar.

Got to pay them dam Board of Education, school kids and teachers some kind of way. If not, there goes wicomico county budget by 100%. Some folks are glad that they were not required to invest part of their payroll check into the wicomico county retirement program. The Board of Education employees and teachers will empty that pot before the county employees retirement. What a shame. Thieves are what politicans are. Theives and liars.

Here is a bit of advice,,,Dont speed and you dont have ANYTHING to worry about. DAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

11:58...pretty much the same rationale used by every totalitarian dictator on the planet. Don't do anything we don't like and you don't have anything to worry about. How do they insure THAT compliance? Camera's. Surveillance. Monitoring all citizens 24-7. Manipulating the flow and content of information. Informers. And the most powerful weapon of all in their arsenal? Stupid, cowered citizens who cheer that 24-7 control and NEED to be told how to act, think and behave. People just like YOU. The kind of people who cheered the Patriot Act. The NDAA. Don't step out of line and you won't be secretly "detained" (indefinitely, just to remind you), secretly tried, and secretly imprisoned. Which happens EVERY day in the land of the free. Thanks to the mindset of people like YOU.
