(CAMBRIDGE, MD) – The search is continuing for the suspect who was shot at after he apparently attempted to drive at a Cambridge police officer when he fled from a traffic stop early yesterday morning in Dorchester County.
The suspect is identified as Demetrice D. Demby, 39, of the 700-block of Douglas Street, Cambridge, Md. Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging Demby with first degree assault, second degree assault, attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder and second degree assault upon a law enforcement officer.
The Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team is coordinating the search for Demby. They are being assisted by state troopers from barracks on the Eastern Shore, as well as allied law enforcement agencies, including the Cambridge Police Department. Lookouts have been broadcast to police departments throughout the region.
Anyone with information about Demby or his current location is urged to call police immediately. Persons with information should call the Cambridge Police Department at 410-228-3333, or the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack at 410-822-3101, or 911. Callers may remain anonymous.
Demby has been sought since he fled a traffic stop shortly after 12:30 a.m. yesterday in the 500-block of Leonards Lane, Cambridge, Md. Demby had been stopped in a 1995 Chevrolet truck by Cambridge Police Department officers for a traffic violation. The observations and investigation by officers during the stop led officers to request a K-9 unit to respond to scan the vehicle for possible drug violations.
While that scan was being conducted, Demby accelerated the truck and is believed to have driven directly at one of the officers in front of the truck. That officer, in fear for his life, fired his pistol at Demby. A second officer, fearing for the life of his fellow officer, also fired his pistol. The officer in front of the truck sustained injuries that required hospitalization, including a broken ankle.
Officers found Demby’s abandoned truck several blocks away. The truck had been struck by gunfire from the officers, but at this time it is not apparent that Demby was hit.
Cambridge Police Department Chief Kenneth Malik requested that the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit conduct the investigation into the police shooting. The investigation is continuing.

Hurt a cop and no resources will be spared to find and punish the perp. CITIZENS get shot, robbed, assualted, raped, home-invaded, and beaten and what happens? They file a report. Maybe an arrest. MAYBE. But dozens of cops from a dozen different agencies will spend days, months, even YEARS (they are STILL investigating, with a special unit, the stabbing of a Virginia State Police officer over TWENTY YEARS AGO) pursuing THAT criminal. What do CITIZENS get? Searched after being stopped not wearing a seat belt. Beaten and arrested for questioning their heavy-handed tactics at a traffic stop. Your kids beaten and arrested for not moving fast enough when told to leave a legal gathering. PROTECTING us, huh?

2:11...I don't mind you calling me wrong. Point out the error. Some people hate the facts -- its so contradictory to what their world revolves around (propaganda) that they just can't stand it. Fact --- most murders of CITIZENS go unsolved. Murders of cops? A HANDFUL in the past 50 years have been unsolved. Why? Because the police will dedicate all the resources and power at their disposal to solve THAT murder. You and I? We are just statistics used to justify MORE police.
