How much does religion factor into your vote?

I will never vote for anyone who wants to turn the US into a theocracy. I will never vote for anyone who governs based on the Bible and not the Constitution. The nutters out there on the fringe want to wage a holy war between Christianity and Islam. It wasn't much fun for the first thousand years of that mess, and that was before nuclear weapons.
When a candidate says: "God has guided me" or "God speaks to me",( and a few have said this), I know that person will not get my vote. I am not an atheist, but it's a little scary to have an individual with this mind set running our country.
according to Most of the comments so far; it looks like you think you're wiser than God himself. it's people like you who think this way that scares me.
our founding fathers knew where wisdom and strength came from and they weren't ashamed of stating it in many of their writings. they called on God for guidance and the bible was their reference.
we wonder why God continues to lift His hand of protection, mercy and grace from our nation. it's very easy to see why. the bible states only a fool denies God. so be it.
I am an atheist. Religion has no effect on my vote, if someone is Christian to each their own that is fine. The only time religion would effect my vote is if it's someone that is extreme, who wants all laws to be based on the Bible and not the Constitution, for example wanting to ban birth control, gay marriage, or put Christianity in school. I respect everybody's religious beliefs but their beliefs are personal and should not be used to govern this country because not everybody has those beliefs. I believe in equal rights and every consenting adult should have the right to marry who they choose, and so I don't think someone else's belief AGAINST gay marriage should be taught to my child in a public school, or any other religious ideology for that matter, such as Creationism. That is why we have Christian schools and it should stay that way. So in a nutshell, religion wouldn't factor into my vote at all unless they wanted their choice of religion to take over my freedom of religion (or freedom from religion).
I wasn't going to comment on this until I read some commenters up here. It's a tough call, but After having been around the block for 57 years, I've come to notice that those who hold up their religious beliefs and wave it as a flag are usually just out to get your business and wind up being more dishonest than others. I have only seen one contractor succeed with this approach and 20 or so were exposed as big ripoffs.
For me, I like Mike Huckabee for his humble approach and would vote for him, but some of the others just seem to be using it as a sales tool. One must sort these folks out of the equation.

NONE
I read somewhere that Santorum is against birth control, that's way too far right for me.
He also admited that his wife gave birth, the baby was still born or died shortly after birth.
He and his wife wrapped the baby up and took it home to show their other children, he admited this on a TV interview. Just a little over the top IMHO
no more then it did when the founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution

Why?
50/50.I'm not for electing any semblance of a preacher, but I still know that god is in total control.
It matters ZIIIIPPPY!!!
11:42 Talking to invisible people is a sign of mental illness. Besides if they say God speaks to them they are a lying.
11:42, because we saw what happenned when Jesus told Bush to invade Iraq
Depends on how the candidate lets it factor into their vote!
Didn't Louise Smith say at some point that she consulted her pastor on what she should do about something?
not at all, unless the candidate wants to govern based on religion and not the law. Then it's a definite no.

100%
Without religion , no values , no trust , no morales , no life.
Only if they're Muslim.

I wasn't aware Jesus told Bush to invade. How did you come up with that?

Who is 'her'?
I guess he is busy with HIS invisible friends. lol
Anon 6:06.....The "her" he is referring to is God.
Anonymous 5:26...Bush said himself that he invaded Iraq because God told him so. This is a very well-known fact. have you been living under a rock?
