A Plan To Fix The Postal Service Has Cleared A Senate Committee

The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved a bipartisan plan to cut the Postal Service's costs so it can return to profitability.

USPS is on track to lose $10 billion this year. The bill would return $7 billion from the employee retirement fund. That would let the Postal Service give early retirement to 100,000 workers. The bill would also limit workers compensation and close some postal facilities. But Saturday delivery would stay in place.

Why are they hell-bent on keeping Saturday delivery?

That one item should be the first to go, when considering cost-saving measures....

646-Ask anyone in business, if the usps elimated saturday deliveries, the amount of companies using the usps would drop off dramatically. In fact, many businesses have called for the usps to increase to a full 7 day delivery week. Right now, the current policy forces a lot of businesses who would otherwise use the usps, to use a private courier. We live in a 24/7/365 world today, this ain't 1940.
