(CNN) -- The ashes of cremated body parts from some of the nation's war dead were dumped in landfills until 2008, unbeknownst to their survivors, an Air Force general acknowledged Wednesday.
The practice was stopped, and remains from cremated body parts now are disposed of at sea, Air Force Chief of Public Affairs Brig. Gen. Les Kodlick said.
The landfill disposal of the ashes was first reported in The Washington Post.

Guess that speaks VOLUMES about what our elected officals and top military brass really think of the brave young patriots & their families who made the ultimate sacrifice.... DIsgusting!
This brought tears to my eyes. These remains belong to a son or daughter. Someones dad and to just throw them away in a landfill is just unthinkable. We can do better!
Just fight and die for the military-industrial machine so they can continue to reap biilions in profits. They are selling weapons and bombs to BOTH SIDES! They couldn't care less about the "cause" or "freedom" or the lives of the poor and middle class boys and girls who get killed or come back with no arms or legs. They just want to make sure that every once in a while, they can get everyone chanting "USA!" "USA! "USA!". THEIR kids will be home from their Ivy League colleges soon and everyone will be happy. And richer!!! USA!!!!
Jarring headline, but the small print, as usual, tells a different story. These are NOT 'service members remains' - rather it sounds like post-operative remnants. Unfortunate, but not the desecration implied.
