Struggling Postal Service Announces 'New Reality'

Snail mail is about to get even slower.
The U.S. Postal Service, burdened with huge financial losses, said Thursday that it was facing a "new reality" that would include shutting a slew of processing facilities, changing service standards for first-class mail and cutting up to 35,000 positions.
The moves will mean first-class mail will no longer reach most customers the day after it was dropped in the mailbox.
"We are forced to face a new reality today,” said Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe in a statement. “First-Class Mail supports the organization and drives network requirements. With the dramatic decline in mail volume and the resulting excess capacity, maintaining a vast national infrastructure is no longer realistic."


The Postal Service said the moves are designed to save it $3 billion a year.

we have been mailing product thru the us postal service for sometime.
We called the postoffice for the charge for a two pound item and the zip code. We know then what to charge the customer for shipping. We called college avenue office I was told they had a customer and had no time to answer questions. Called Main post office on rt 50 they would transfer me to a clerk which then they hung up. Called again the phone was lifted up and hung up??? We called Fruitland Post office and was told Yes sir let me look that up for you. Guess where we will be mailing from in the future.
I look it up on line but when we get to the post office to mail it it is never right. Dont think I would miss the postal service with its hateful personal.
We still have UPS and FEDX..
