New claims for unemployment benefits spiked to 428,000 last week, from 417,000 the week before. Economists had expected a drop to around 410,000.

The majority council in Ocean City has fired City Manager Dennis Dare after 29 year of service without cause. This council has done this in haste and against public outcry.
