No Jail Time For Aquatics Club Treasurer Who Stole $728K

The former treasurer of the Naval Academy Aquatics Club will serve no jail time for stealing $728,000 from the youth organization.

County Circuit Court Judge William C. Mulford II said the shame that Naval Academy graduate Joseph Walter Kirby brought on himself was greater than any punishment he could hand down in court.

So, SHAME can now be used as a defense? It must REALLY irritate the people in prison who, say, stole $50,000 in jewelry from their employers safe and got 15-20 in the big house. Or embezzled $100,000. And got 10-20. Or stole some groceries and did a year in the County slammer. A rich judge gave a rich boy a BIG break. No restitution? No probation? NO JAIL TIME FOR STEALING $700,000 ??????? I guess the "system" is working fine....for the well connected.

I'm not defending the criminal or the judge but, you're misinformed or simply don't know what you're talking about. The guy has already paid back all of the money. He also has to pay a $50,000 civil suit settlement.

I don't care if he paid it back or not. That doesn't change the fact that he STOLE the money. Do the time!
