Update: USPS To Unveil Intentions Some Time Today

The Postal Service is considering closing more than one in 10 of its retail outlets. Postmaster General Patrick Donohoe will unveil the plan today. In all, he'd like to close more than 3,600 local offices, branches and stations. It's all a bid to lower costs for the money-losing Postal Service. Most of the closures would take place in rural areas. But USPS officials are also looking at moving postal services into retail stores, town halls and community centers. It's not a done deal, though. Once an office is selected for a review, people served by that office will have 60 days to file comments. If an office is to be closed, people can appeal to the independent Postal Regulatory Commission.
