"No Child" Environmental Ed Bill Returns

Legislation seeking to reconnect kids nationwide with nature and educate them more about the environment has resurfaced in Washington - this time with at least a trace of bipartisanship.

Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) announced they are introducing the "No Child Left Inside Act," which would provide federal assistance to states to develop and carry out environmental literacy plans. Cosponsors include Maryland's two Democratic senators, Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin.

Companion legislation is being reintroduced in the House, where the bill's champion, Rep. John Sarbanes, D-MD, had tried in vain to get it passed in the last Congress.

The announcement comes shortly after Maryland's state Board of Education decided to make environmental literacy a high school graduation requirement.

This is interesting. Earlier today I had the pleasure of speaking to someone at the Parks and Rec here in Salisbury. I learned that a position at Pemberton Park will be eliminated in Nov due to lack of funds from the BOE. The BOA apparently paid 1/2 the salary of the person in charge of the park programs for schools. Sadly this means no field trips to the Park for the schools.
So, if they intend on this legislation to become policy then just were would the funds come from? Our own BOE has washed there hands of a park program for our children.

Environmental literacy. Will it be scientifically based, for which there are two sides of the story and may add to ones science learning? Or will it be an indoctrination saying green is the only way or else?
We all know green isn't as green as it seems. $$$$ is the killer and folks without the money, gather up government incentives and breaks to subsidize their plans that cannot exist by the money it makes itself.
