CAROLINE CO. DEATH RULED A HOMICIDE

(DENTON, MD) – Evidence obtained from an autopsy today led state medical examiners to rule the death of a Caroline County man this weekend was a homicide.

The victim is identified as Louis R. Nichols, 71, of the 300-block of South Fourth Street, Denton, Md. The manner of Nichols’ death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

The victim had multiple injuries and a cause of death was determined. State Police homicide investigators are not releasing the cause of death at this time because it is an important part of the ongoing investigation. To release a cause of death at this time could jeopardize the investigation by revealing information known only to the person or persons responsible for her death. The cause of death will be made public at an appropriate time in the future.

Nichols’ body was found about 11:00 a.m. yesterday in the Choptank River, not far from the former Rt. 404 bridge near Denton. Nichols had last been seen alive about 10:00 p.m. on the night of July 23rd, when he left a friend’s home in Ridgely.
