GOVERNOR MARTIN O’MALLEY TO ANNOUNCE PLAN TO EXPAND USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TO RECOVER STOLEN CARS

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley will join local and state law enforcement officials, community advocates, and others to announce an initiative that will expand the use of innovative technology to help recover stolen vehicles – license plate readers. Since taking office, Governor O’Malley has directed $2 million to state and local law enforcement for new license plate reader technology, leading to the lowest rate of vehicle theft statewide ever reported. This technology also plays a vital role in homeland security, protecting vital areas such as airports, ports, and transit stations, and assisting local law enforcement in Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, and other public safety alert systems.

Governor O’Malley will announce plans to expand this technology at an event tomorrow in Greenbelt. At the event, Greenbelt police will demonstrate the use of License Plate Reader technology.
