Welcome To Salisbury Maryland, The All America City

For several weeks now I have been asked to please make a trip to the Salisbury Airport and take some pictures of the weeds growing everywhere. I thought, it couldn't be that bad, could it?

Well, when I went to greet Fernando at the Airport this weekend, WOW! I know for a fact that Mayor Jim Ireton personally went there last Tuesday to see Fernando off, did he not see what was going on there. Does this man not take any PRIDE in Salisbury. Oh, I know some might say this is a County issue but I know if I was Mayor of Salisbury I would have made a call to Rick Pollitt and said, look, you need to do something about this immediately.

Clearly this was not the case and or done and the Airport continues to look like crap. Can you just imagine all of the people flying into that Airport heading to Ocean City and this is what they get to see.

While I know funding is tight, a couple of bottles of Round Up and a few employees there who take pride in their jobs could take some time out of their days to at least spray down these weeds.

Think about it like this Folks. If a business as large as the Airport refuses to take care of such issues, it's no wonder crime is on the rise. No one gives a crap and I just can't see the City/County giving residents citations when they can't even care for their own property.

This is embarrassing, to say the least.

Is the Airport property in the City or just the County?

The county can swindle away money to scrape the sides of roads like Nutters Cross Road like they were doing this morning. Trouble is there are other areas that need attention and they seem to ignore them! When we went by the trucks this morning on Nutters they were sitting idle just shooting the SH!T. Pollitt needs to start doing some real managing (what he was elected for) and trim out areas like this that are p!sssing our taxes away.

Where is Bob Bryant now? Hey Bob now that you cut all those trees down how about getting to those weeds! Those things are so tall they are getting into the aviation conical zone.

I do not think the mayor has any power at the airport.

I never said the Mayor had any power there. The Mayor, (no different from me) has influence there and or with the County Council or Executive. It's as simple as pickingt up the phone or walking down the hall to mention things like this.

"You can't fix what you don't know."

Another disgrace SALISBURY. There are plenty of landscaping folks that could clean that crap up. Hell, why not get some of the ECI prisoners to do the job instead of allowing them to sit around in air conditioned comfort !!!! Somebody definately needs to get off their ass !!! This is not a very good impression for out of town folks to have to see when the visit our once fair city !!

Weeds are just plants. They aren't really hurting anything. I'm not liking the idea of pouring toxic herbicides all over the ground--which end up in the groundwater--just because some grass isn't growing in a fashion orderly enough for you. There are larger problems that need attention.

I agree with the ECI Idea. If we have to pay to feed, clothe and provide medical care and such to these criminals get there behinds out there and make them work.

Bob Bryant needs to stop travelling to Orlando to woo that phantom airline for "late 2011, if at all", and go out front of his airport with a weedwacker!

Hey Joe, Have you been down Twilley's Bridge Rd (off Mt. Hermon) lately? That road should just be closed up permantly. There is piles of trash in the middle of the dirt road so you can't even get through. There are also piles of trash, furniture, etc thrown in the woods. It is really sad how irresponsible people are.

Yeah, ECI idea...I like it.

The county ex should get out of his office and take a tour of the county and get it cleaned up. What kind of an impression would this make on a representive of a new company considering locating a plant in Salisbury? Don't we have a Greater Salisbury committee that would be concerned with problem?

Is it that hard to pull weeds? Citizens would be fined by now.

Those pictures look like something from the History Channel show "Life After People". The way people are leaving this place a few more years it might be true.

Why not get a work release crew from the WCDC to do the job.

Can't beat their labor rates!

It is a real shame that people flying in to our airport have to look at this mess.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.

The Post Office on Route 50 looks just as bad! In particular, Truitt Street side. It's shameful that the city has no accountability, but don't you dare let a weed grow in your yard.

State Highway Administration uses prisoners from the Wicomico County jail all of the time to clean/pick-up trash on the highways. The county also uses the prisoners at the land fill. Why can't they go out to the airport and do some work for the people who are housing, clothing and feeding them?

has anyone also notice the bi pass around the area of the mall. it is just as bad there too. i wonder that all the new guard rails along rt 50 are going to look like next year.

Piles of trash and litter everywhere is pretty much the norm here. Welcome to the shore 12:29. I'm constantly picking up trash in my yard from all the local litterbugs. I live on a backroad that only most locals know yet beer cans, litter, you name it finds its way in my yard. Just look around at all he rundown homes with overgrown yards. Its pretty obvious that most ppl dont care around here. How pathetic.

Joe. . .you know what really irks me about this deplorable situation.

It happened last year too. The airport manager was scolded by the airport commission last year and yet he let it happen again!

Pollitt really needs to replace the entire airport staff. They all need to go.

Please come for a visit in the afternoon on one of these hot days and you will see that there are bigger problems than the weeds. The HVAC system is old and needs to be replaced. It’s going to be expensive but better to start planning now before it craps out completely and there is no A/C in the middle of the summer. With the high ceilings and all of the huge glass windows, you would think they would at least install fans to circulate the air and/or put those blowers in by the doors like they have in other businesses so when the doors open the blower keeps the hot air out. With so many visitors to our area every year and the airport being their first impression, hopefully they don’t look at the ceiling and see the missing ceiling tiles in the main lobby that came crashing down over a month ago. Luckily it was during non-operating hours and no one was hurt. The tiles still have not been replaced. Speaking of ceiling tiles, look around in the offices, lobby and holding area and you will see lots of stains from roof leaks……
