‘Birds Open 2010 Season on Thursday, April 8th in Greenville
Salisbury, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds defeated Salisbury University, 9-6 in an exhibition game at Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night. Third baseman Levi Carolus anchored the Shorebirds offense, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. A raucous crowd of 3,573 fans flooded Perdue Stadium for the exhibition contest.
The Shorebirds raced to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Mike Planeta and Brian Conley recorded back-to-back RBI singles to plate Carolus and Tyler Kolodny to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead.
The Shorebirds plated another run in the second inning on a Carolus RBI single that scored Garabez Rosa.
The Sea Gulls offense got going in the top of the third inning with three runs on three hits to tie the game at three.
In the bottom of the third, the Shorebirds responded with four runs to build a 7-3 lead. The big hit in the frame came off the bat of Levi Carolus to drive home T.J. Baxter and Michael Ohlman.
Seven Shorebirds pitchers saw action in the exhibition game. Tony Butler, Randy Henry, Ryan Palsha, James Brandhorst and Jake Smith all tossed scoreless innings.
The Shorebirds start the season on April 8th with a four-game series against the Greenville Drive. The ‘Birds return to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on April 16th @ 7:05 p.m. for the home opener.
