The Daily Times Cuts Off The Shore Stop Near The Twilley Center

This past Sunday one of our viewers went to the Shore Stop on Mt. Hermon Road to purchase their Sunday Paper and came to learn they didn't have any papers for sale.

When they asked where the stand was, one employee explained how the Daily Times had come in and removed their stand and informed them that they were some $2,000.00 behind in payments.

Considering the Daily Times is a COD account, (says the employee at Shore Stop) being told you're $2,000.00 in arrears simply didn't make any sense. I wasn't there, so I really cannot comment on that.

So much for a "convenience store" eh? I did stop by our local Shore Stop and while they were out of the Sunday Paper, they claimed they were still getting their delivery.

All that being said, I did come to learn that even though the Daily Times spent $3.5 million on a new Press to print the paper as well as the Comics and Sale Ads, they are in fact getting that portion of the Sunday and weekly paper printed in Wilmington and NOT here in Salisbury. So we were right, the Daily Times is farming out a portion of their paper. Is this the beginning of the end?

they didn't buy a new press, it was a used press. and it's a pos. eventually there won't be a daily disappointment, all the news is three days old! and they just reprint articles from the ap.

Who needs them. We have the "real" stuff.

Apparently 1;14 does not know what a REAL newspaper is.

Pulitzer (and Hurst for that matter) perfected the art of yellow journalism. It's ironic, yet fitting that the highest journalism award is named after that scoundrel!

Anyways, The News Journal printing press also produces the USA Today for the region. It's a fairly large operation.

It's not a new press, it is a refurbished press from Wilmington (heasd office). They are not printing the inserts any more because the press keeps breaking down. When printed in Salisbury, the carriers had to put together the comics and style together; now when they get them from Wilmington they are already put together. Also, the Salisbury plant laid off most of their plant employees, hence, they don't have the man power to print the inserts anymore. It is also cheaper to have them printed in Wilmington than to keep people employed here!

The Daily Times will never go away. Now it's employees...that is a different story. They will continue to slowly outsource all of the work as the content suffers. So, keep bashing the Times, all your doing is putting your hardworking neighbor out of work. Then he'll sit back and collect unemployment while you go to work to support him.

You would not believe the tiny staff that puts together the paper every night. The copy editors and reporters and there is ONE frigging proofreader for the entire department and they just ELIMINATED her job. It's only downhill from here folks.
