Another current scam in the area is phone calls to older folks where the caller identifies him/herself as the oldest grandchild of the person who has answered the phone. The person who answers typically responds with the name of their grandchild, saying "XXX is that you?" The caller says yes, it's me and I'm in trouble in Canada and need you to give me your credit card number or send money. If enough calls are made it is only a matter of time before a caring grandparent thinks their grandchild really is in trouble and falls for the scam.
