Obama strips Senior Benefits To Fund Obamacare

Be Advised:
President Obama has recently approved a 2% salary increase for all federal employees effective January 1, 2010.

Members of the executive, legislative and judicial branch are due for an automatic pay increase in January as well.

However, All this is on the backs of Senior Citizens who will not receive any COLA (Cost Of Living Adjustment) increase for the next several years.

For the first time in history, the Congress will not allow an increase in the social security COLA (cost of living adjustment). This will negativly affect all Senior Citizens.

In fact, The Henry J. Kaiser Foundation predicts there will not be any COLA for the next three years.

However, the personnel monthly Medicare insurance premium for Senior Citizens will be increased 25% from the 2009 premium of $96.40 to $104.20 in 2010 and to
$ 120.20 for the year 2011.

Alert all seniors that you know. Let them know how the current
Administration (Obama) has stopped their COLA increase while increasing their Medicare Costs by 25%.

Remind all Seniors That if you want to get even, DO not vote for the incumbent Democrat Senators or Congressmen in the 2010 and the 2012 elections.

There is no COLA adjustment due to virtually no inflation in 2009. SS recipients will receive $250 check.

If there's no rise in inflation, then there's no COLA. That's the way it should be. It's good for taxpayers. But that being said, Obama did direct SS to send out $250 checks to seniors this year.

Mr. Passaro says he's a taxpayer advocate and then advocates more taxpayer spending on seniors. The guy needs to get some consistency (as well as check his facts).

thanks 7:48 and 7:58. You jumped on it before I could.

To the right: Yes, there is room to fairly criticize Obama. But the bullcrap that you guys sling around seriously damages any credibility that you have in the debate. You really want to win votes? Tell the truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth.

Unfortunately, people like Mr. Passaro will never be happy about anything our govenrment does.
I would like to ask Mr. Passaro how the current administration affected him personally?

You guys are idiots , the government gets a raise , why?
Mr. Passaro isn't the only one that's not happy with our new communist party.

Thank goodness that I actually see some comments on this blog that are factual and reasonable!

$250.00 per year is equal to less than 1.3% raise to the highest rate recipients, and is only for this year. Then it's over, back to the base rate. The raises in rates makes this little "bonus" a negative number.

A 2% raise adjusts Congress' pay for this year, and continues until the next raise. What's 2% of a couple hundred grand times how many: 436 or 536 conngressmen?

There was either an increase in the cost of living or there wasn't. What's good for the Goose should be good for the Gander.

Government also includes armed forces. Perhaps they don't deserve a raise?

Maybe a "Merit" raise, but certainly not a COLA.

Mindless blather. Obama this Obama that... Why not be part of the solution, support the President.

Mr. Passaro and others here need to do a little research. Federal employees got an annual pay increase. It wasn't based on the cost-of-living. Social Security recipients are only supposed to get an increase if inflation increases. That's the law, not something President Obama made up. You can attack Obama for advocating a raise in the salary of federal employees (and Congress for approving it), but it's not like the employees are getting a COLA while retirees aren't. The employees are getting a raise from their employer. People on Social Security aren't federal employees.

Unfortunately, Obama decided to sacrifice fiscal prudence at the altar of appealing to retirees and cut every SS recipient a $250 check. So Mr. Passaro got his way and old people got money. The taxpayers, whom Mr. Passaro in other contexts claims to be speaking for, got screwed. It seems Mr. Passaro is not really interested in reducing government spending. He's merely interested in making sure government spending is directed towards people who are the same age as he is.

10:51 - You couldn't be more right. It's these taxpayer advocates who are of the ME ME ME mentality. They can't stand to see government money go to anyone else but them, they are all for spending - as long as it benefits them.

Plus, Congress said they would not be taking a rasie this year, so in addition to being selfish he is also misinformed, or worse, a liar.

A gov't bureau decided there was no inflation this year while the cost of goods went up on everything- there's no denying at the checkout that prices have gone up on everything even while the treasury has printed up billions of dollars in funny money that if they keep up the pace, the Chinese can wipe their butts with it when it's worth nothing. Now seniors are seeing their dollars worth less getting an increase on their Social Security Premiums -THAT IS THE TRUTH. You think that Mr Passaro is advocating more gov't handouts? Seniors should want both nothing to do with the Current administation in White House and Congress. Clearly, I see HIs message is to vote them out and stop the hypocrisy.

$250 do the people who need it the least. Why not send that to the unemployed who have run out of benefits or the people under 30 who cannot find jobs? All these SS recipiants that go to these protests, against government spending, will be in the bank the next day to cash their checks. Why not send them back, for the good of the country.

11:58, you are grossly misinformed regarding prices. Therefore I see why you don't support the Pres. You probably fall for every lie, hoax, conspiracy you recieve in your inbox also

Prices of everything have gone down and their checks have stayed the same. Who else can say that?

Marc said...

11:57 -- not all taxpayer advocates are hypocrites. I consider myself a taxpayer advocate and I truly want less government spending and less special interest handouts. Hell, I even want them to get rid of the child tax credit on the income tax form even though that would cost me. We need people who want true reform, not just "reform" that only affects someone else.

11:58 -- prices on many things have indeed gone down. Energy, food, and other stuff is lower than in previous years. I agree that we will likely have inflation in coming years due to the "stimulus" bills and the huge influx of money into the system due to the Federal Reserve printing press, but that time has not yet come.

And Mr. Passaro is indeed advocating a government handout. Giving seniors more money when we are in a deflationary period is a handout, pure and simple. It's no different from food stamps or TANF.

ok 4:29, it's hard to get your point with all the grammatical errors. Also it's largely SS and medicare that are driving down the balance sheets.

4:29 SS was never intended for you "to live on" it was safety net so you did not end up on the street. A suppliment to the money YOU saved over the years.

11:58am here...you all must rely on your wife for things and not buy groceries or pay bills. Not even a year ago, milk was at $2.99 a gallon, and poptarts were at $2.97/box for a 12 pack, a case of Gatorade was $14.88 at Sam's...go check that price today, they're all up. I have 2 teenagers at home-I know prices and Know I'm getting less product for more money. Gasoline is down from a year ago but when it's price went up so did the food then gasoline went down but the not the price of food, it was static for a few cold months. Delmarva power also announced rates were going up last year and they haven't gone down since. Not even 2 months ago, there was a complaint on this very blog about the price of natural gas and service. Fed Ex raised their rates by 15%, I got the email. You're drinking too much of the Kool-Aide if you think the cost of goods has gone down. How about 20 oz sodas at the Wawa or Any C-store, yep up to $1.65 just this year, when last year they were at $1.49, 2 years ago $1.29. You can go around VA/DC and get them at that price but not around here. I don't remember a Fox News story or Glen Beck blaming Obama on this, but that's just me...a right wing nut I guess.

8:46pm here, to 7:16am, I live with teenagers, I'm not denying them a treat or two, but if you want to go there, tuna a year ago 60-80 cents at Walmart, 80 cents at Food Lion, try finding it under a dollar today. Sure the stores run their "specials" but the everyday price is still up. Pasta for a 16oz box, Walmart brand last year, 50-79 cents (depending on the type) now $1.20 to $1.50 (again depending on the type). Turkey, chicken or beef, try finding them under $2/lbs and I'm not talking about the bulk 5lb roll or whole turkey, just Like I said, prices have gone up, I try to limit what I spend on junk but the healthy food is also just as expensive.
