Asteroid Explodes Over Indonesia

On October 8, 2009, with no warning, a ~10-meter wide asteroid hit Earth's atmosphere above Indonesia and exploded.

The break-up was so powerful, it triggered nuclear test ban sensors thousands of miles away. A just-released analysis of infrasound data shows that the asteroid detonated with an energy equivalent of about 50 kilotons of TNT. That's two to three times more powerful than World War II-era atomic bombs. The asteroid that caused the blast was not known before it hit and took astronomers completely by surprise. This significant impact has received relatively little attention in Western press.

According to statistical studies of the near-Earth asteroid population, objects are expected to collide with Earth on average every 2 to 12 years.

Didn't even see it coming!

That's because our space exploration is really all about spying on us down here on the earth. :)

9:59, LOL

Really it was all Michelle's fault

1:18, if you or myself die from the next one, I must say it was meant to be. Nothing is closer to God's will than the random asteroid striking you down.

11:28 LOL - others will say nothing has EVER been the same since man landed on the moon (in 1969) so that must be the reason in increased comets, astroids, etc.

No press = only because it didn't spell out the "Obama" while it incinerated. This does not further their agenda, why would it be news-worthy?

First, we should all go and purchase helmets ..... TODAY!

Second, the spy cam thing is correct. Why look DOWN when we should be looking UP and OUT?

Third, if we all took turns looking out into space every so often, we could start a phone tree and call one another when we see crap heading to earth!
