Who Is The REAL Mayor of Salisbury?

If you voted in last spring’s election, or bothered to watch TV that night, you would swear that Jim Ireton was elected mayor Salisbury.  He was.

But that’s not the question.  What we want to know is - Who is really running the city?  It surely isn’t Ireton.

Ireton’s police chief, Allan Webster, has publicly humiliated Ireton on multiple occasions.  Yet, Ireton continues to support a man who has done just about everything possible to undercut Ireton’s authority.

Violating direct orders.  Attacking the mayor and other elected officials in the press.  I’ve got to give Webster credit.  Either he has stones made of granite, is a first rate imbecile, or …

Perhaps Webster knows that Ireton really isn’t the one running the city.  If not, I’d like to know who really is.

Bad timing, G.A. See the post a few below this where Ireton ordered that JT be served a summons that th police were dragging their feet on.

Not really. If you read the companion post you will see that the post you are talking about is mentioned and linked to.

If Webster refused to serve a warrant on Taylor and he still has his job this afternoon then that merely proves my point.

following this latest ordweal-
Why Ireton has not placed Webster on suspension w/o pay is beyond comprehension...

G.A. , how right you are. Ireton is
a follower , not a leader. Most
school teachers are followers , they do what they are told to do by their superiors. Ireton is doing
the same , he is folloeing orders from Barrie and Webster. I've told you guys many times , he is still a teacher not a leader. He doesn't have a set of b@lls.

You all will be the first to complain when taxes go up to pay for the inevitable lawsuits. Or when essential services get cut to pay lawyers. There are many ways to win this thing.

Jim Ireton- All smiles and hand shakes. No berries.

Chief Webster-Non team player and a not a real police officer. No berries.

Crime Salisbury, MD- through the roof, nothing being done.

Hmmm, I don't think we will see this city on TV asking people from other states to come visit. Coming into Salisbury, MD, new sign that reads "Caution, you are now entering a war zone. Please hold your breath, lock your door, roll up your windows and try to beat the red light." Sign the reads when you are leaving Salisbury "Slow down, unlock your doors, roll your windows down, you are safe, now breath."

Tell that to the man who died on the gas station floor.

I'm not claiming that he is following Barrie or Webster. I am arguing that because he won't stand up for himself, or the people who elected him, that others are able to actually run the city.

Lawsuits? You're kidding right? If you were Allan Webster and you had his record of non-accomplishment AND you had just spent the summer being the most insubordinate person in the history of municipal government AND you had actually attacked elected officials in the press, do you honestly think that you would want to go before a jury of taxpayers?

I am truly amazed that,on this blog, Ireton has gone from celebrated hero to lapdog so quickly

Ireton -part time mayor full time school teacher = Full time idiot. This joker made a bunch of promises just to get the seat and has no b@lls to back up the promises he made. Just remember that come next election so then you Salisbury resident can finally get rid of him.

That is what happens when an elected official becomes the epitome of a lying polician.

Don't tell us what you want to hear just to get elected and stroke your ego.

He did it to himself.

It's very simple G.A.
It's a game of politics they are all playing at, and nothing, absolutely nothing will change for the better because of that. Brace yourselves.

I think that Jim Ireton will surprise you. I've always known him to be a progressive leader. To those of you who feel teachers are followers, I don't understand you. Most all employees follow their boss in their regular duties. Teachers like Jim are in fact not only teachers but Association leaders who attend state and national assemblies to help make policy. Wait for the Somerset County elections and see if Webster doesn't run. Do not underestimate Mr. Ireton. Sometimes a teacher has a problem child (Webster) and the best thing you can do is grit your teeth, get through the year and wait for them to move on.

How many people will get killed for that wait?

anonymous 4:57, Cents or Chuck, Good God, man up and use your names at least. In fact Cents, why don't you really man up and start using your real name and stop acting like JT. Or are there too many pictures of you in Reh. Beach? Perhaps too long of a criminal record? Why not come clean?

G.A.,
Followers can't stand up for themselves. They do not have the grapes to make decisive moves.

If the Mayor isn't in charge, then the City has something in common with the Federal Government.

The President of the United States isn't "in charge" either. He doesn't make decisions - for crying out loud! He takes orders from whoever put him there. He serves the financial backers of his campaign.

Likewise, if the Mayor isn't "in charge" then who would be in charge? Are there any thoughts out there? If not He, then it must be somebody.

Who financed his campaign?

Maybe Webster has some sort of embarsing evidence involving Ireton which he would not want revealed?

It is quite clear that our new mayor is a lost ball in tall grass and does not have a clue. I truley do feel sorry for him because he is so lost and at the tax payers expence.

I thought you wouldn't allow posts with "idiot" and some of the other things that are being said.
As for Jim, he was on the receiving end of this stuff for a long time. I don't understand why he tolerates a City Administrator who purgered himself, a finance director who can't get the numbers right, staff members who are ugly to the public that they serve, etc. Help was supposed to arrive on the day he took office. Please forgive us if we are getting impatient. Jim, these are the people who are running the city for half a day. Then, you appear to be spending the rest of the day trying to put things right.

Well Webster and Barrie and Hoppes and Gordo tried that already with the incident on the beach in Delaware. Remember when they put their house bloggers JT and Outrageous Richard on them. They were using SalisburyFD.com email addresses to pass the slime around.

Ireton could not give a damn what anyone has on him. He's a good guy and has nothing to hide. If he did, don't you think that one of these folks would have shared it by now. I don't think that ther is anything that you can smear him with.

If you were a careful reader you would have noted that Salisbury News's endorsement of Ireton in the election was not wholehearted. I should know, since I wrote it.

Your two dimensional thinking is getting you in trouble. He is neither a hero or a lapdog. I am merely asking that he man up and do the job he was elected to do. When he does a good job, I am confident that SbyNEWS will applaud him. When he does a bad job, we will point that out. If he continues to allow those not elected to the job to run the city, we will scream bloody murder.

In all honesty, if this is how Jim Ireton plans to "govern" for four years, the city would have been far better off with Gary Comegys in the Mayor's chair. Even Barrie Tilghman was a leader, albeit a despotic one.

GA...if YOU were a cerful reader you would not that I qualified my comment "on this blog"....there was euphoric cheerleading here in the run up to and after the election...Obama like adoration...read through the comments now....

Jim Ireton is, I'm sure, a nice guy. But he talked much tougher during the campaign.

My son lives in Salisbury and voted for him. He had such hope for change. He no longer has hope. He was downright sad when I talked to him tonight.

It's my understanding Jim Ireton inherited a lot of mess and a lot of restraints. But a leader LEADS! He flies in the face of that adversity.

All I can say is Mr. Ireton seems to have let a lot of people down. No politician can make everyone happy. But for heaven's sake, do something meaningful for the people who elected you!
