"I Just called my kids' School about Obama's address to them on Tuesday
You may be familiar with the controversial televised message President Obama plans to make to our children in public school on Tuesday, where by children are instructed in the classroom to write letters to themselves about how they can "help Obama" and other forms of propaganda. Many parents don't want their children instructed on how they can "help Obama" with Socialized medicine or any of these other unconstitutional plans he has (like a Civilian Army). I am one of those parents and I fully planned to pull my children out of school on Tuesday if they were going to be subjected to that kind of crap.
So,I Just called my kids' School about Obama's address to them on Tuesday...and
(drum roll please)
They will not be showing it.
I also have heard North Salisbury, Fruitland Intermediate and Glen Ave. will not be showing it, as well. Concerned parents should call their children's schools and inquire if this is part of their lesson plan on Tuesday and let their school principle know that you do not want your child(ren) to participate."

I just called Beaver Run, and they say they are not participating eitther.
Prince Street will be showing it because I got a letter sent home with my kids today!
Do we know for sure those schools will not be showing the Obama-propaganda show next week?
Will there be some kind of funding withholding ransom made against any school or system that refuses to participate?
Why is it controversial, because you say so? I am sick and tired of hearing from you right wing freaks. The man wants to say positive things to your children about the power of trying and staying in school, and thats a bad thing. How close have you come to becoming president? Just make sure your son or daughter gets my order right when I go through the drive-through. Thanks
Do you want to take advice on pulling your child out from school who does not know when to use principal instead of principle?
My kids will be staying home, just in case they show it anyways.
Good idea. Let's teach our kids that what the President has to say does not matter. What happens when a Republican/Conservative gets in office and your kids dont respect his/her ideas either? I'm glad my parents exposed me to many different views and opinions and encouraged me to make up my own mind.
Happy Labor Day!

I noticed something about these people. Those who panic about this speech typically also believe that schools should have mandatory Christian prayer time and bible study classes, and that it is the duty of a school to teach the older students to resist any temptation towards sex until after they have married.
This suggests that they have no objection at all to using schools for pushing a social or political agenda, so long as it's their agenda that's being pushed.
Just remember one thing, especially here in Maryland. The DEMOCRATS make sure that the BOE cannot be toughed, (budget wise) while everyone else is taking massive cuts. While the Press won't allow such speeches, the BOE will allow whatever the President wants to say as they know if they just flat out said no, the President and Democrats would take away their security. One hand washes the other. Be careful, be very careful.
If you keep your kids home, you are only ensuring that they will grow up to be dumber than you are. Quite an accomplishment.
"NO. You may not listen to the President tell you how important it is to study and stay in school. Stay home and watch Spongebob, play video games, and learn how to avoid anything you disagree with. Tomorrow, Mom and I will teach you how to hate people that look different from you or are smarter than you."
A good quote from a liberal blog I like:
You can bet that President Obama is the first black man ever to be attacked by the right for telling kids to study hard and stay in school.
Wow....
well, i guess if my child's school isn't going to show it, i will have to keep them home to watch it. is that going to be okay? i wouldn't want to disturb the wild animal acts in the classroom. desk throwing and such is very important for children to learn about and i would hate to waste time learning something valuable.
Some of you people probably hate that JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
Guess what? Everyone has the option to have their child opt out. You always have that option.
Others would like their children to know more about what the President is doing, their roles as citizens, about our government.
It is amazing how easily Fox News can lead their sheep... All presidents address students about education, from Regan, to Bush, to Clinton. The difference at that time was that Glen Beck and other nut jobs (including MSNBC) were not brainwashing the right or left (as much) then. It is an absolute disgrace that our President is being disparaged for wanting to talk to the youth of America about the importance of education in todays global scene. It is no secret that our education system is failing. School children from all over the globe are outscoring and outperforming our kids and in the future we will not be able to compete. Ignorance begets ignorance. Left or Right politics has become ridiculous, from the idea that the flu vaccine is a ploy to inoculate the nation, to thinking Obama is trying to indoctrinate our children -- get a grip folks.
Woo hooo! More uneducated people coming out of this area! We should be proud to continue this trend!
I am a "right-winger" and retired teacher who believes that your children by all means should watch and listen to what the President has to say. I certainly would not call the President's words "crap," since you haven't seen the text, nor would I assume it's "propaganda." As I understand it, it's a kind of "cheerleader speech" to get the school year off to a good start and to have the children think about the importance of education.
By the way, 3:42, thanks for saving me the trouble of correcting the writer on the use of "principal." Maybe Tuesday will be the day for the lesson on the difference between "principal" and "principle"; his child should not miss it.
I continue to marvel at some of today's parents, such as 3:43, who will keep his/her kids home that day. What an inspiration that parent must be!
They can watch it at home if they want to. Dr. Margo Handy from the Board of Education put out an advisory NOT to use it in the classroom and if they do the teachers need to send home a letter. This is straight from a board of ed employee.
Pittsville school is showing it! But they cant show a PG movie during an incentive? Mr. Cody is a dictator as well!!!!
LMAO @ all the people with the personal attacks on a typo.
Anonymous 4:12
I dont support this in school, but i must say i diffently like your train of thought. I think keeping your child home from school to watch it, is a great choice! I think the parent should be the one to make the choice and answer the childs questions about this.
I am a teacher in Wicomico County and I will be showing the speech.
It wouldn't be so bad if all it amounted to was a pep talk.
But you conveniently leave out the part about 'lesson plans' being provided by the White House and the assignment of writing about 'How I can help the President'.
They only backpedaled on that when they got caught.
In and of itself, it would seem relatively harmless, but taken in the context of what our Dear Leader has been up to of late, one does well to protect the young from more manipulation like we saw around the last election when students were being given time off school and community service credits to go vote for him.
A wise parent is going to protect their children, even in the face of the name-calling and intimidation that will surely follow.
Even a dead fish can flow with the tide.
5:31 What school?
Can you imagine if Bush would have done this?
The screaming would have pierced eardrums across this country.
The duplicity of the liberal mind is beyond imagination.
The problem here on this blog is that there are many uneducated and undereducated readers who resent people who are in better stations of life than they are.
Those poor children who are exposed to their loser parents' positions and philosophies are the ones who will be suffering, not just from this particular situation but in life. Sad.
How ironic that in the middle of reading these comments and just seeing an a peice in channel 11 new about this very subject I get a call from one of my daughters middle chool teachers from Pittsville. She read a letter that I guess they got to late to send home with the students and asked if I wanted her to watch or not. I said let her watch.
does anyone know is pemberton elem showing it?
Any problems when the ROTC comes in to talk to your children at school? Is that propaganda?
MD_Progressive
Let's see. I was about 6 years old way back when. Sitting in class, bored and a bit out of sorts. I took out pencil and paper and wrote a letter to the then president. (Nixon)
It was asimple letter saying he was doing a good job at the time as I knew it.
Well, my teacher was amazed that a young boy would just sit down and do a leter of this sort. She obtained an envelope and stamp, showed me how to set it up, and we sent it out that day with the office mail.
It was several months later I recieved a reply. A simple letter and and book about the president.
I wrote it on my own, no one pushed.
It is NOT the Place of the president to TELL our children to do thses sorts of things. It is his job to see to the security of our lands, and doing a piss poor job of it too.
Anthony of Salisbury
The fact that the schools have chosen to or not to show it proves the point about this"indoctrination". We live in a free country. The president was not trying to indoctrine anyone. If he was, EVERYONE WOULD HAVE TO WATCH Case closed. Go find some other non important thing to moan about.
Could all of you nut jobs please get on a boat and float away?!! Oh my gosh.... President Obama wants our kids to stay in school and do well. Run..... hide.........the conspiracy to take over the world with rampant socialist ideals is happening..... !!!! Get a frickn grip! So all of the 6 and 7 yr olds he talks to are going to run out... hold their parents at gunpoint and tell them they better follow Obama's plan..... or else. Seriously, the stupidity and fearing mongering isn't laughable anymore, you all are scary.
6:17 yes pemberton is showing it
I received a recorded call from Pemberton's principal on Thursday. They are showing it bt if you would like your child to opt out, write or call him or the teacher.
I feel all the hoopla is ridiculous. It is not about politics. It is the leader of our country speaking to the children about doing your best in school. What the heck is wrong with that?
Northwestern Elementary is not showing it to any students. I talked to the Principal today personally.
Adolf Hitler had his youth groups that were educated to be patriotic and supportive of their government. President Obama also has this right and needs to educate American youth and not let prejudice from parents be a handicap to their personal development. Obama is the most capable president that America has had. He is a visionary and will lead the world to the greatest heights that can be mastered. Those who support and live by his creed will survive and experience happiness as all wealth is shared equally. It is ignorant and uneducated parents who are a handicap to their children. All teachers will receive full checks and benefits because they are our most important asset. Other people should feel obligated to sacrifice for those responsible for the future of our children and the American Obama dream.
Hey 5:49 - Bush did do it. Learn history much?
Is that last comment a joke?Satire, perhaps?
Schools promote agendas every day, some of which I do not personally agree with. Sometimes I am informed that my child is being exposed to propaganda, other times I am not informed. NRA presentations about guns and gun safety ire me to no end, but I don't prevent everyone else from hearing. Karate demonstrations during school hours to show the kids a commercial for discipline and exercise all the while promoting the person's business are personally offensive to me. I speak to my child at home about my beliefs and ask them to compare points of view. You chickenheads want to silence anyone who doesn't 100% agree with you. Suck it up. Schools promote agendas, may not be your agenda, may not be mine. But schools are voices of capitalism and the voice goes to the highest bidder. I'd rather have the President speak to my child than a corporate ad spokesperson shilling their product to my kid.
I hope it's satire, Bluto!
The schools should allow any show or movie that they have reviewed, fully understand, and can demonstrate educational value. I say record the speech, review it along with the related text materials, come to a decision that includes the parents, and act accordingly.
Please excuse my Right Winger Conservative Common sense attitude.
No, just the truth.
RC: You're wrong, that's NOT what the email said. Teachers were NOT warned not to show the video. Having actually read it myself, and not relying on "friends" telling me what it said, I can state that Dr. Handy gave teachers the option to show the speech, but parental notification should be done.
Bluto: If you're asking about the comment that "Bush did it" is a joke, it's not. Both George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan had televised addresses aimed at school children delivered during the school day. And in Reagan's case, he was guilty of much more direct "political indoctrination" than the lesson plans accompanying Obama's address are accused of having.
From Reagan's address:
"We also find that more countries than ever before are following America's revolutionary economic message of free enterprise, low taxes, and open world trade. These days, whenever I see foreign leaders, they tell me about their plans for reducing taxes, and other economic reforms that they are using, copying what we have done here in our country."
Most readers on this website will read that, pump their fists and yell, "Hell yeah!" That's not the point. The point is, he was advocating a specific policy view - the very same "crime" many now accuse Obama of committing. And nothing in the "Obama lesson plans" come anywhere close to the infusion of specific policy as what Reagan included in his remarks and his answers to kids' questions.
12:30,
Well done sir or madam, well done!
All others,
I hope you realize how bad you are making the right wing look with the petty things you fight about, without actually being educated on the subject. 12:30s amazing and historically correct comment will mean nothing to you, you will continue to argue that no other president has done this. It is actually mind boggling how narrow sighted you all can be. Personally, I look forward to the republicans fading into oblivion. You are like the Polocks of the american democratic system.
I teach at North Salisbury... and I'm showing it.. and so is most of the teachers there...lol.. get your facts straight!
does anyone know what the website you go on to view the message he is going to send the kids in school? Someone just told me his speech will be posted on monday?
3:01 I dont see why you find your remark lol or why you need to be anoymous
Oh my, another outspoken teacher at 3:01 who doesn't have a firm grasp of basic grammar. Sadly, this no longer surprises me. Do your school a favor and keep your comments to yourself.
3:01 is Anonymous because he/she claims to be a teacher...with atrocious grammar.
