Six-Year Transportation Plan Hearings Set

Public Input Encouraged to Help Determine Priorities

Dover --
The Department of Transportation (DelDOT), the citizen-member Council on Transportation (COT), the Dover/Kent Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO) and Sussex County invite the public to attend the Capital Transportation Program (CTP) hearings set for Sept. 9 in New Castle County, Sept. 16 in Kent County, and Sept. 21 in Sussex County.

The hearings provide an opportunity to review the current CTP and suggest transportation projects and/or services to be considered for the proposed CTP for Fiscal Years 2011 - 2016. Public input received during the September hearings is crucial to the development of this program.

Each hearing format will be an open house setting beginning at 4 p.m. A court reporter will be available to record formal comments. Interested persons are also encouraged to submit written comments during the public hearing process and these also will be included in the formal record of the CTP hearings. At the hearings, various information will be displayed, and there will be opportunities for discussion with DelDOT representatives and other personnel. The hearings will be held:

* In New Castle County at the WILMAPCO office at 850 Library Ave, Newark on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

* In Kent County at the Delaware Department of Transportation Administration Building, Farmington/Felton Conference Room, 800 S. Bay Road, Dover on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

* In Sussex County at the South District Administration Building, 23697 DuPont Boulevard, Georgetown on Monday, September 21, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Council on Transportation is composed of citizen representatives from every county in the state. Members are appointed by the Governor. The MPOs are composed of representatives from state, county and local governments, and citizen and technical representatives. Mandated by 29 Delaware Code, Sub Section 8409, the hearings are designed to ensure that the public has ample opportunity to participate in the planning process.

Interested persons are invited to express their views in writing, giving reasons for support of or in opposition to, the proposed project. Comments will be received during the workshop or can be mailed to DelDOT Public Relations, P.O. Box 778, Dover, DE 19903.
