GOVERNOR O’MALLEY APPOINTS MEMBERS TO ALLEGANY AND SOMERSET COUNTY BOARDS OF EDUCATION


ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Martin O’Malley today announced the appointments of two new members to the Boards of Education for Allegany, and Somerset Counties. Governor O’Malley named Michael Llewellyn to the Allegany County Board of Education and Robert T. Wells to the Somerset County Board of Education.

“I am proud to appoint Mr. Llewellyn and Mr. Wells to their respective local Boards of Education,” said Governor O’Malley. “Each appointee brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise, and represents the diversity of our State. I am confident that each appointee possesses the skill and the leadership necessary to ensure every child receives the quality public education they deserve. Even in these difficult times, we must continue to protect our investments in public education to ensure that every child receives a world class education and a better future. The people of Maryland are our greatest asset and our continued economic strength depends upon our ability to invest in them, and prepare our children today for the jobs of tomorrow.”

Below is background information on the appointees:

Allegany County Board of Education Appointee:

Michael Llewellyn – Mr. Llewellyn is an Associate Attorney at Geppert McMullen Paye & Getty where he practices civil litigation for individuals and corporations, estate planning, probate, municipal government and real estate transactions. Mr. Llewellyn is also an Associate Professor of Political Science and Criminal Justice at Allegany College of Maryland. Prior to that, Mr. Llewellyn was a law clerk for the Honorable J. Frederick Sharer at the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Family Crisis Resource Center and Friends Aware, Inc. He received his Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude, in Psychology in 2001 and received his Juris Doctor from West Virginia University College of Law in 2006. He is a resident of Cumberland.

Somerset County Board of Education Appointee:



Robert T. Wells – Mr. Wells is a Firefighter and Paramedic for the Ocean Pines Fire Company, where he has worked since 2007. Mr. Wells is also an Adjunct Instructor at the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute. Prior to that, he worked for the Snow Hill Fire Department as a firefighter and paramedic. For twenty years, he worked for the Maryland Division of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. He was also a CPR Instructor/Trainer at the Maryland Police Correctional Training Facility from 1980 to 2005, and taught self defense, report writing and correctional classes. He is licensed paramedic and emergency medical technician through the State of Maryland and is also a formerly licensed cardiac rescue technician. He is a certified fire officer, emergency services instructor, firefighter, hazardous materials technician, swift water rescue technician, health and safety officer, and rescue technician. He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1977. He resides in Princess Anne.

Am I missing something?
Like, having prior experience, or knowledge of Education. Ones a Lawyer, the other a Fireman. Please Joe, let me know if I'm just stupid.
