Mayor Ireton Sends Out This Message To Concerned Citizens

The following is a survey being performed by the Crime Task Force Outreach Group. City residents are asked to submit answers to Mayor Jim Ireton by Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. Serious and truthful answers are expected. Answers may either be printed and filled out by hand and mailed or electronically and delivered by e-mail. Send hard copies to:

Office of the Mayor
125 N. Division St.
Salisbury, Md. 21801
E-mail responses may be sent to jireton@ci.salisbury.md.us.
{As you consider your responses to the following questions, please specify the police agency and/or jurisdiction appropriate to your responses and concerns}

1. What is the most pressing crime-related or safety issue faced by your group, organization or constituents you represent?

2. What is the current perception held by your group regarding the Police Department?

3. What are some structural changes necessary for your community that will have a sustained impact on crime (e.g., landscape, lighting, neighborhood watch, etc...)?

4. Has crime changed the way you see your community? If so, how?

5. How do you feel crime should be addressed in your community (e.g., law enforcement, landlords, community action, etc...)?

6. What are you prepared to do to take control of your community?

7. What steps do you think the community should take to partner in the efforts to minimize crime?

Jim-Beau:

You should return phone calls from the concerned residents and forget about grandstanding stunts like this one!

When does that "help" arrive?

Why do a poll since Salisbury government is a "representative Democracy"?

It'sw time to take action, not more talk and polls.

Here's the short answer:

CAN WEBSTER NOW!

I sent my survey in... filled out as requested. Either let the man know and sign your name to it, or STFU and be a bystander.

This is a BAD idea unless they can prove that EVERY adult citizen AND business owner in Salisbury has received this.
Just like a poll....unreliable!

Disagree -- Ireton promised to do things if we elected him, but we're still waiting for the first move while witnessing endless showboating.

Can't wait for school to start again in a few weeks so he won't have as much time for media events.

Has he returned that tel. call he got from the caller that later contacted Comegys who got results.

He's as bad as his hero, but then Obama is at least trying to do something (the wrong thing IMHO).

Joe:

Please help because I'm confused.

During the past year Ireton claims to have gone thru ever neighborhood during the campaign and talked to everyone about their concerns. So why this, now, when he should be doing things that count.

When doe "the rubber hit the road"???

Because this is how Democrats do things.

Rather then proving you have the stones to make your own decisions, why not make it look like the masses said so. When it fails they can always go back and say it was the will of the people.

We need a LEADER, not a follower. That goes for Obama too.

I absolutely agree that we need a LEADER, not a follower - but in both cases (Obama & Ireton) we came up short - we sure don't have a leader in either one of them.

I appreciated seeing this on the blog- I also recieved it on email and I think it asks good questions and if we don't tell them what is wrong it is our own fault for staying silent

We've been screaming about the gang activity and the drug activity so long that I don't think I'll every get my voice back. Time to stop TALKING and start DOING Jim Ireton. NOW would be most appropriate.

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:44 and when was the last time you showed up at a council meeting or knocked on the Mayor's door with your screaming?????
Oh that's right, you'd rather scream on a blog anonymously than stand up and be heard, really heard.
Maybe YOU should start TALKING instead of TYPING which will equate into YOU DOING.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

4:36, cut it out, you're anonymous too!

The DT is not reporting a lot of Ireton's moves. Things are happening--look at the Housing Board and the Historical Commission. He is moving forward on getting the WWTP working properly. He has personally seen to many complaints from neighborhoods, they just have not been broadcast. And Insley is complaining that Ireton has guys going after some of the slum houses. Would you all rather have Comegys?

Even if you did respond to the the mayor who's to say that the gang activity you mentioned wont be swept under the rug. Seems to me that asking these questions is stupid when there are facts to back up the crime problem and unsolved murders. Come on, its common sense, crime is high so lets send out a questionnaire to see how ppl feel?? Grab the bull by the horns and end the crime, make the SPD officers happy and stop with the redneck toys down at the firehouse. If I was sent these questions it would insult my intelligence. You know crime is high around here, because you visit this Blog which is one of the few REAL sites around here that isnt full of local good ol boy shore apologists.

This is the most childish "survey request" I've ever seen. Mayor, I doubt you need the people to respond to questioning that you aready have answers for.

Get up. Do your job and give the people what they want...no, DESERVE! Safety and security!!

If you can't/are unwilling, simply step down.

This farce is too much to stomach. Have some stones and do your job.

Got it??

We didn't get a notice.

I don't blame the police alone for all the crime we have, but for heaven's sake, I don't see any sense of urgency out of this chief to stamp it out. Now he's complaining about the two council members who have backed him up on his requests for more people. The others tell him no and he says, oh, okay.
