Did YOU watch PAC 14 last night? I'll create another Post later this morning on the meeting but for those of you who watched, let's hear what YOU have to say.

I just wanted to repost what I said on a previous thread:

Yeah, let's talk about this hazmat trailer. The Times (assuming that they got the quote right) said that there were 94 hazmat calls in 2008. So the City is spending something to the tune of $275,000 (both city expense and grant money) for a hazmat trailer and a truck to pull it for only 94 calls? To me, this money could be spend elsewhere that is truly needed-like ambulance service or something else that is used EVERYDAY by ALL OF THE CITIZENS OF SALISBURY! If they want a new hazmat trailer, it is in my opinion that those businesses using hazardous materials in the the range of SFD should pay some sort of hazmat tax in order to pay for these types of specialty equipment.

And this hazmat truck to pull the trailer is absolutely ridiculous! For one, it takes a few minutes in itself to hitch up a trail-are they going to hook up this trailer everytime there is a hazmat call? Response times are going to be horrible! Did you think about that Shanie, Gary and Louise? Maybe they will just leave the trailer attached to the truck? Even better! We'll have a truck that can never be used because it's attached to a bullsh!t trailer that we don't need! What amazes me is that nobody on the council asked for a quote on how much a hazmat TRUCK would cost instead of a trailer-seems like an all-in-one would make more sense to me.

I have also said this over and over and over again...even if we did by this trailer, we shouldn't need a truck to pull it. A fire department SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY CARS! Rick Hoppes' nice new little cruiser he just got, yep, that should be an Full-sized or mid-sized 4WD truck! These cruisers that they all have are useless! They are called "police interceptors" for a reason! If we bought just one F250 or F350 super duty truck instead of one of these BS cruisers then we would NOT be buying this truck! It's common sense to purchase trucks and not cars, but let's just face it they want to have something to putz around town in. They built a building that was too big for their needs on Cypress Street and now they are trying to fill it...I saw it coming! I just can't wait to see these idiots ripping though town pulling this trailer...if you think the ladder truck was a problem, get public works ready to replace some signs!

I think Shanie was damn near close to having to recuse herself with the comment...."I live in the neighborhood near the oil tanks, and we need the best equipment in case of a spill, We need this trailer in this community." Looks like she's looking out for #1 this time. Maybe we should have asked her when the last time one of those oil tanks leak...let's try NEVER!

Joe,

You sounded great. Your comments were straightforward and competent assessments of the situation and you stood up against this nonsense.

It'll be the Gazillion Dollar Firehouse before it's over

10:02 What a senseless post. Most cops never use their weapon during the course of their career. Do you suggest because of the instances of use the police department should stop purchasing and issuing them? The area of Salisbury is ripe for a major hazardous material incident. With an airport, interstate roadways, railway, and waterways all running through Salisbury and carrying hazardous materials, it's only a matter of time. It only takes one incident involving a hazardous material to seriously injure or kill many people.

Joe:

Please try to stop this from happening!

"in a few days Barrie Comegys will become the first vice pres. of the Maryland Municipal League (and that means its pres this time next year)."

You forgot to mention that it's really needed because the brand new $60 Million waste water treatment plant ain't working.

We should have taken that 216,000 and bought off the chief..Money well spent. The soda truck probally had 200,000 miles on it when it was given to the city and now it has 215,000..It would have done to keep that soda truck to pull the expensive trailer OR do they have to match. I dont think Shanie should vote when it comes to spending tax payer money, especiallly property taxes because she dont pay any she dont own property..whe is a renter...I dont want my property taxes spent of things that are NOT needed. We could have given the sity emloyees a raise with that $216,000.00. I wonder how many other accounts have money stored in them as did the health insurance fund did...?

Where was the Mayor while all of this was going on???

With a proper organized truck all you need is a step van like the large UPS trucks. This would be able to manuver anywhere in Salisbury with no problem, not like the worthless ladder truck, and carry all necessary equipment / supplies to complete any task dealing with Hazmat. The cost would be significantly less. The Companies that deal in large quantities of Hazmat goods could donate equal amounts to cover the cost. I believe they could take this expense off their taxes as a donation to the Fire Company or some other business deduction.

It was his shift at the waste water treatment plant -- someone is needed there 24-7 to put a finger in the dike so the poop doesn't pollute the river!

Joe:

Don't miss Ireton's next media event -- this afternoon in the GOB.

He's sure following in his hero, Obama's, footsteps in his PR machine.

Meanwhile, more murder, sewage plant still won't work (and stinks) and the City is really falling apart.

The only "good" thing is that it didn't get the "All-Americal City" prize or he would be claiming the credit.

But, isn't there any "help is on the way"?

Great pic of the future president of the Maryland Municipal League:
our boy Bubba!

The best part of all as Terry Cohen pointed out - they applied for the grant and got it BEFORE Council knew anything about it. More Of Barrie T. and Barrie Comegys tactics. Last night was nothing but more of the same - Big new toys for Big sissy boys. And to you, Louise, Gary and Shanie - you are a disgrace to Salisbury and its citizens.

10:02 Shanie looking out for #1?

What about the step sisters looking out for #1 when they rooted for health insurance. Don't be so biased.

They pay the same portion of their health insurance as any other eligible city employee. You forgot to mention the part about Tilghman violating the state constitution and Wilber sitting there and letting it happen.

10:02 AM

They did just recently purchase 2 new heavy duty pick up trucks and they are just sitting in the stations collecting dust because they don't want anyone to drive them to put miles on them. Station 1 has Utility 1 and Station 16 has Utility 16. They also have a super duty Duly pick up truck that is sitting next to Utility 16. It is Utility 16-1 and it never gets driven either. Why all the heavy duty pick ups?

I could of sworn I heard a campaign promise "help is on the way?" A big question for you Mr. Mayor WHEN?

11:41, obviously that guy that filed the bogus ethics complaint. Can't stand that he lost.

Whether it's for Campbell, Cohen or Superman, I think health insurance for council members on the same level as employees is a good idea.

You couldn't pay me enough to put up with the hell a council member puts up with. The attack on the health insurance is really hypocritical coming from 3 council members who all have their own health insurance paid for by the taxpayers via the state.

Last night was just another unnecessary toy handout to the Bubbas. I'm losing respect for the fire department.

joe, i missed the meeting but saw most of it on pac 14. NOONE asked the question ( does that price include any equipment on that trailer or will we get hit with another big bill for new equipment to fill the trailer. Another thing, does anyone realize we have several hazmat companies here in salisbury. one on Mill str. is Marcor. these people have equipment and personnel all trained. why is the city competing with private enterprise.? sjd

Anonymous said...

The grant money comes, more grants are on the way, etc etc. Salisbury needs to stop trying to get rid of all our "connected" officials. The public has no idea how beneficial it is to have people who are members of these civic leagues.

B. S. (and not the kind you can get from a college).

The set-up that the FD is getting is not a Wells Cargo trailer that you pull with a pickup or 4 WD it is an 18 Wheeler - a semi-truck. So yes it will stay hooked up ready for a call. I question the fact that there were 94 Haz Mat calls that the City FD responded to, I am sure that there were many more calls that had hazardous materials as an element in the call, but the Special Operations team, which runs the HAZ MAT team did not respond to 94 calls no where near that number . Also how come they didn't respond to the largest fuel spill in city history this spring, the incident involving the college?

Have you been asleep? "Most cops never use their weapon during the course of their career." They are used everyday they work, they are on their side when they go to every call, the option is there, they pull them and them them as force, and then some fire them to use deadly force.
Just having it on is force, man what a thoughtless comment yourself.

Bubba, take some advise and retire.

meanwhile, waiting for a hazmat incident, what becomes of the truck & it's trailer? Or will it be driven around all over town while "they figure out how to operate it"? you know, like the fire truck. more mileage "in training" than in use.

why is the city competing with private enterprise?

an excellent question!

Because city and county employees want to pad their little kingdoms with people and equipment and to heck with the costs to the taxpayer.

So the taxpayers foot the bill and ANOTHER local business goes bust
