A Letter To The Editor

Joe,

I read your blog post about the Town of Hebron passing an unbalanced budget. Unbelievable. With two attorneys sitting there. Unbelievable! What do taxpayers pay these guys for, window dressing?

I read this right after watching the Salisbury city council. Same thing. Paul Wilber stands there with a "housekeeping" law on plumbing and Terry Cohen catches a correction on something they've gone over many times before. Wilber agrees with her and says they'll fix it for next reading, but Cohen says she's got to make a motion to amend it. Wilber was just going to get some white out and call it a day?

Man, at that point, I just wanted to cry. XXXXX and I are barely making ends meet, I bust my butt all day, and this suit can't take care of some limp change to plumbing code. This was after Gary Comegys gave his fire department buds a new toy, that stupid hazmat trailer they don't need.

I'm glad you mentioned the WWTP, too. The sound of crickets is all we've heard on that. What did they cut from the agenda at the beginning of the meeting? Was it something to do with the WWTP? Is that why the mayor wasn't there tonight?

I don't know why, but hearing this stuff bummed me out tonight. Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it was the lousy day at work, busting butt so I can pay for lame attorneys and fire toys. Sorry to complain, but some nights you just got to wonder out loud where the sanity went.

XXXXX

Did they say what happened at the All-American City contest last week (heard the Salisbury lost) at the City Council meeting last night -- and where was Ireton? Has there been anything in the Daily Slime?

If Salisbury had won a prize that news would be all over the place by now.

Yeah, let's talk about this hazmat trailer. The Times (assuming that they got the quote right) said that there were 94 hazmat calls in 2008. So the City is spending something to the tune of $275,000 (both city expense and grant money) for a hazmat trailer and a truck to pull it for only 94 calls? To me, this money could be spend elsewhere that is truly needed-like ambulance service or something else that is used EVERYDAY by ALL OF THE CITIZENS OF SALISBURY! If they want a new hazmat trailer, it is in my opinion that those businesses using hazardous materials in the the range of SFD should pay some sort of hazmat tax in order to pay for these types of specialty equipment.

And this hazmat truck to pull the trailer is absolutely ridiculous! For one, it takes a few minutes in itself to hitch up a trail-are they going to hook up this trailer everytime there is a hazmat call? Response times are going to be horrible! Did you think about that Shanie, Gary and Louise? Maybe they will just leave the trailer attached to the truck? Even better! We'll have a truck that can never be used because it's attached to a bullsh!t trailer that we don't need! What amazes me is that nobody on the council asked for a quote on how much a hazmat TRUCK would cost instead of a trailer-seems like an all-in-one would make more sense to me.

I have also said this over and over and over again...even if we did by this trailer, we shouldn't need a truck to pull it. A fire department SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY CARS! Rick Hoppes' nice new little cruiser he just got, yep, that should be an Full-sized or mid-sized 4WD truck! These cruisers that they all have are useless! They are called "police interceptors" for a reason! If we bought just one F250 or F350 super duty truck instead of one of these BS cruisers then we would NOT be buying this truck! It's common sense to purchase trucks and not cars, but let's just face it they want to have something to putz around town in. They built a building that was too big for their needs on Cypress Street and now they are trying to fill it...I saw it coming! I just can't wait to see these idiots ripping though town pulling this trailer...if you think the ladder truck was a problem, get public works ready to replace some signs!

I think Shanie was damn near close to having to recuse herself with the comment...."I live in the neighborhood near the oil tanks, and we need the best equipment in case of a spill, We need this trailer in this community." Looks like she's looking out for #1 this time. Maybe we should have asked her when the last time one of those oil tanks leak...let's try NEVER!

anonymous 9:49, You also have to wonder just how long she'll be living there, (in that neighborhood) and if her rent is taken directly out of her pay from the City in order to assure she'll pay her bills?

I'm sorry that I have to say this, but There are some very ignorant (stupid is probably more appropriate) voters in Shanie's district! She can't even get her own affairs together in order to set a good example for her district!

One of Hebron's attorneys just got his 'come-uppance'--and in a BIG way.

A Judge just gave Hebron attorney Gorski a big dose of reality--bet he won't make that mistake again!
