Have You Considered Buying A Gun?

With all the VIOLENT CRIME going on in Salisbury, one has to wonder if Citizens are considering purchasing a weapon to protect themselves and take classes to learn how to properly use them.

I received a call last night at 3:45 AM telling me one of my buildings was unsecured and I needed to go secure it. When I arrived there were lights on in the building on the main floor, the second floor and the third floor.

Considering there were no Police Officers on the scene, it was NOT a pleasant feeling walking through the entire building on my own and quite frankly, having this Blog and creating some of the enemies I have, the very first thing that ran through my head was, is this a set up? Better to be safe than sorry, right?

Nevertheless, having a weapon would certainly make anyone feel more secure in a situation like this so just imagine how citizens are now feeling walking anywhere around Salisbury. Without Salisbury News, the only information you would have seen is a murder. You don't read about the young man mugged that we posted earlier this morning. You don't read ANY Police Reports from the SPD in the Daily Times.

For the longest time citizens were clueless about just how bad things actually are/were. I can remember how difficult a time it was getting WBOC, WMDT and the Daily Times just to cover the graffiti a couple of years ago. They were so afraid of what the Mayor would do if they did anything on it.

During the recent Mayoral Campaign Jim Ireton kept stating, if you're comfortable with crime the way it is in the City, vote for Gary Comegys. If you're NOT comfortable with the crime in the City, vote for me.

OK Jim, you spoke up, the Citizens listened, trusted in you and believed something would change and or be different. WE'RE WAITING! Things are NOT getting any better and while the former Mayor really didn't have "cause" to let the former Police Chief go, she did it any way.

There isn't a day that goes by at least two or more people ask me, when is Jim going to do something about this Police Chief? I am one of the many people that supported you and now that you're working full time as Mayor, we'd like to know, when are we going to visibly see that "Help Is On The Way?"

In the mean time, while we're impatiently waiting and people are being beaten and killed, will the citizens have to take up arms themselves to protect themselves and or their loved ones? I personally would rather be proactive than reactive.

I go no-where without a weapon, when Im at home the shot gun is always near, when I am out the pistol is always with me,(legal or not, I dont care) When the people who get PAID to protect us start doing there jobs maybe Ill change, but not now. If my life or the life of my family is threatened, buddy I have no problem sending the bad guy straight to the cemetary. We have two societies and we have to protect ourselves against the other one.

We need the right to carry. The state cannot protect us and will not allow us to protect ourselfs. Maryland is one of the last of 23 states that do not allow its citizens to carry a weapon. It's time for change. Elections are coming and it is time for change.

Elections are a joke, which whore do you want is all that amounts too.

just bought an AR-15 Love it for fun and protection. Let anyone assault my house or gov. try to repossess my guns and see what happens

Agreed. I find it absolutely ridiculous that even a retired Maryland State Police officer cannot get a permit to carry a weapon. No wonder crime is so high; the thugs don't worry about permits, and honest people can't get them.

Plain and simple answer to your question... Yes

Joe if this ever happends again request a police officer accompany you inside of your building. You could have been hurt.

John Robinson has a used Glock at the Clock store it comes with old self disinagrating bullets,he said the bullets were old and it vanished after it hit the floor. BATS in the BELLFREE

I hope the mayor is reading this ,
or maybe he is just thinking , I'm
the mayor now , so what! Hey , this is like teaching school , just lay back and relax!

Maryland is one of the worst states when it comes to getting a permit to carry, if you can even get one at all.

In the NRA magazine, the column "The Armed Citizen" tells it like it is and the criminals NEVER get off easy. The only thing you won't see is a story from Maryland since our state government does not think we have a right (or freedom) to carry a firearm.

This is getting bad , if something isn't done quickly , you will see people take the law in their own
hands. Maybe that's what we need.
Salisbury , the ghetto of the eastern shore.

I just talked to John Robinson. He said He sold the fence to his neighbor. I'll bet his Neighbor would have loved to see how he took it down. BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!! BLAM!!!!!. He said it had nothing to do with the county telling him to remove it. they were there to give him approval on his new fence. STReeeeeeeeeeeching the TRuuuuuuuuuth or what?????

i would like to know what mr.ireton has to say....

Our concealed carry laws are so restrictive that so very few are granted the priviledge. I am armed at home but don't carry concealed as I am not in a position to suffer the consequences of being charged with this offense. The down side is that someday a criminal could kill me or someone near/dear to me because I tried to obey the law.

Living in the county, we live with a totally incompetent sheriffs department. I know from experience. they couldn't handle Mayberry, N.C. I'd say if you live in the county, get a gun. Mike Lewis needs to get his head out of politics and worry about protecting the citizens. Then he'll get reelected. He's headed south in any re..election attempt right now. Alot of us are fed up with his lack of leadership, including some of his own officers.

It was just the tax man seeing what he was going to get soon.

If I didn't pay my Taxes, I would have money to blow on Off the wall stores that have a fat chance in h-ll of making it.

If you need a gun to make you feel safe Joe, that says alot about you.

You must be talking about another Mike Lewis. Mike Lewis will go down as one of the greatest sheriff's in our country and by far the best in this county. He will win a re-election every time he decides to run. He is a great man that loves this county.

City crime needs to be handled by the city. Chief Webster needs to get with the program or resign and let someone else take over.If we keep ignoring the issue , it will get worse and totally out of control. Then we'll all heve to become vigilantes."Where's Charles Bronson?"

10:58 I'd be curious to know why that retired trooper can't get a permit to carry. I'm a retired police officer and it's pretty automatic for a police officer to get a permit to carry when he retires. The fees for renewing the permit are even discounted for retired police officers. Additionally, several years ago President Bush signed the police officer safety act which allowed retired police officers with a good background to carry a concealed weapon any where in the country as long as the police officer qualifies once a year. The agency I retired from, as well as many others, offers the qualifying course to its retired officers.

I am with you on the vigilantes. If the police chief cant handle the job WE can. Are you listening?

Friends, I'm as fed up with crime in this city as is anyone who has posted, but lets be real, vigilantes will not be tollerated by local, state and federal law enforcement, if your going to carriy a concelded weapon with the intent of using it in self defense, best be ready to kiss your family good bye while you serve the next 12 years in jail.

I just read Maryland gun laws and found it interesting that it is only a crime to wear or carry openly any rifle or shotgun with the intent or purpose of unlawfully injuring any person. Unless you have the INTENT or PURPOSE of unlawfully injuring any person why couldn't anyone sling a shotgun over there shoulder and just simply walk down Main Street in downtown Salisbury? I don't think your breaking the law.

Anonymous said...

I'll bet more than half of you "Death Wish" vigilante talkers would piss yourselves if confronted with a life or death situation, gun or not.

i believe that all law biding people should be allowed to carry a weapon.just imagine how fast the crime rate would drop!just the thought of it honestly would the bad guys want to try and rob people when its legal for people to bare arms you have no idea who is packing.i thought we had the right to bare arms though?or do we?i think it says something about that in the constitution which a swore to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.maybe its just an illusion.anyways having a weapon is good for those who would use it with restraint and operate it safely.whoever weapons sometimes provide a false sense of security which could get you hurt.what happens if youre being robbed and you draw your weapon but you have no weapon retention training or techniques.it would be pretty bad to get shot by your own weapon.

Guess what 11:20??? The Mayor dosen't have the TIME to read this because he's to busy cleaning up the heaping pile of crap that he was handed when he took office!

You people want to blame someone??? Blame the person who tried her damndest to keep this hidden from the citizens of Salisbury. You want to be angry? Be angry at that sorry excuse of a police chief!

Am I scared? Your damn right I am but I'm not blaming *THIS* mayor.

If you're so stinking scared then why don't you go to the city council meetings and tell them to their faces? You sit here, hide behind your keyboards and talk the talk. Why not walk the walk?

Anonymous said...

4:55 please carry a rifle or shotgun the street see how far you get before you are stopped. Then post on this blog.

Anonymous said...

It's true. You can carry a loaded rifle or shotgun down the street as long as you don't have the intent to unlawfully harm someone...and the barrels are at least 16 and 18 inches long respectively. SO you can load and sling your AR and go about your business - no problem. Check Maryland law for yourselves. I have.

Second Amendment forever. I work seven days in a row before I get a day off. I also risk my life everyday I go to work. Because I work in a prison. Yes they are filled with gangs. Yes they are murderers, rapist, child molesters and drug dealers. If they are doing life for murder what do they care about killing me. Its not like we are going to give them the death penalty. That is a thing of the past, thanks to all you bleeding heart liberals out there.
And yes all they have to do is make a phone call and my life or someone in my family could be killed. So we better never abolish the second amendment. IT IS OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. Let us never forget that. Even when dictator Obama says we don't need guns and tries to take all of them away from us. Let us not forget our constitutional right.

Our neighboring states,Virginia and Delaware, are much more flexible in allowing their citizens to carry.I have friends who travelled alot out West and they visited some areas in New Mexico and Texas where residents walked around with holstered pistols. Can anyone tell me why Maryland will not allow citizens to protect themselves?

Maybe Jim will"ACT" and we will get the Police the money, staff and leadership they need to clean this city up. I understand the counsel situation, I do. This is a "CRISIS" situation and action is long over due. The counsel better get it in their heads that the people have had enough, enough. You act or we will. There isnt much GREY area in that.

Anonymous said...

Jim you said crime was the priority.

All these photo op's are reminding me more of Barrie Tighlman. Heck with the feel good fluffy, puffy photo op's.

Since the chief doesn't use his car for police work, take his car a put a patrol officer in it. Just do something, a smile and a nod isn't cutting it.

Anonymous said...

Jim you're going to have to get angry, the rest of are.

During the campaign you talked angry about crime, now we have have less police officers?

2:01, I was told by a retired state trooper that they couldn't get a permit to carry. If I was given incorrect or misleading information, I stand corrected.
