Click It Or Ticket

17 Police Agencies came to Perdue Stadium yesterday for the Click It or Ticket Campaign. Sheriff Mike Lewis threw out the First Pitch, (like a girl) and then proceeded upstairs to the Club House where quite a few Police Officers got together and discussed their support towards this campaign.

Sheriff Lewis had made 7 traffic stops issuing tickets to each one of them for seat belt violations before he arrived to the Stadium. Both Sheriff Lewis and Chief Bernadette DiPino were guest speakers for the event. There were Cops from everywhere on the Eastern Shore.

We have seen comments against the seat belt law and quite frankly you have to be stupid not to wear your seat belt any more. Not only is it the law, it truly saves lives. All too many people believe an air bag will save them and that's just not true.

We have provided numerous stories, (especially recently) where people were ejected from their vehicles and died. Think about that for a minute. If you do follow these stories lately, it's a fact. Besides that, vehicles are now designed around a seat belt and air bags. They are built in three sections and the front and rear of each and every vehicle is designed to take the most impact. The cage and key area of the center of each vehicle is designed to save your life WITH A SEAT BELT secured.

To think you'll survive without one is just stupid. Clearly you do NOT value your spouse or children if you refuse to wear one. Face it, it's the truth. Wear your seat belts, obey the law and enjoy the rest of your life.

Its a good thing that sheriff Lewis has a gun and doesn't have to throw baseballs at criminals-Look at the arch on that pitch!! Keep up the good work on our streets!

It's interesting that DiPino attended this event considering it is legal in Ocean City to ride in the back of a pickup truck where there are no seat belts to click.

I, as an adult, shouldnt have to wear a seat belt if I choose not to do so. This is another example of government making personal decisions for us that they need not be.

2:25,
How did we survive before mandatory seat belt use laws? Quite well as I remember. Yes, there were fatalities but the last time I checked there are still fatalities today. It is about personal choice. If an adult chooses not to wear one, the only life in danger is theirs.
These laws are all about money and control.

2:25 typical lib response, you need nanny government to hold your hand, news flash!! grown rational thinking people can make their own decisions.

2:25 100% correct. it's a revenue generator and nothing more. all this crap on cars now ABS, air bags etc. only give people a false sense of safety and cause more accidents as people, (dumb people) think they can drive like they stole the vehicle because the vehicle is 'safe'

Can someone tell me why a bus driver can get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, but 55 kids behind him do not have to wear seat belts? I wear one, have since the 60's when they were not even put in new cars. BUT! I still think that the ticket thing is just a fund raiser.

Anon 2:57,
We survived because cars were built alot stronger, there weren't nearly as many cars on the under maintained roads. People acutally had common sense & were courteous to each other. Something we're seriously in short supply of now.(How many 4 way stop signs do you still see around?)There wasn't "road rage" & people didn't have a "mow them down" mentality.

although I support seat-belt laws fully - this seems like a waste of tax-payer dollars to talk about such a common sense law!

People who don't wear seatbelts cost ALL of us money. When you morons get a head injury from a silly accident that you would have walked away from had you been wearing your seat belt, we ALL pay for it, through higher insurance premiums or through our taxes. So save us your "it is my business if I wear a seat belt" crap unless you promise to waive all health care. Or, you might go on gov't disability and we'll pay for you for teh rest of your life, like some people we all know.

I expect you seat belt fans to stop driving immediately....it will save lives!
The law is a money raiser and keeps a few alive so the can pay taxes and the gov. dosent have to pay out any SS money to any survivors {there is no SS money left}

You preach about seatbelts but have no problems riding that scooter!

Hypocrite!

Those who wish not to wear a seat belt fail to realize they become a "flying missle" in an accident and can injure others in the vehicle!!!

Here is my feelings on seat belts... for adults they should not be made to wear them. They are a fool if they dont, but laws should not make them.
When it comes to children however, if you dont follow the laws with them in car seats/booster seats or seat belts you should be put in jail.
All that said... not sure why a person would not wear a seat belt. And dont think just running a half mile to the store means a seat belt isnt warrented. My worst accident happend on my wat to Shore stop about 1/3rd of a mile from my house. Had I not had my seat belt on my head would have gone thru the side window... even with airbag.
While I agree with choice for adults is warranted... the choice is clear... wear the damed seat belt!!
