Salisbury Police Department Press Releases

On February 16, 2009 at approximately 9:47 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department arrested the below listed suspect on a warrant obtained by Salisbury Police Investigators for an internal theft. An investigation revealed that while employed at a Hardee’s Restaurant in Salisbury, the suspect took U.S. Currency that was the property of the restaurant.

ARRESTED: Andree Lamont Purnell, 33 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

CHARGES: Theft (over $ 500) (2 counts)

Theft scheme (over $ 500)

DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking CC # 200800041134


On February 16, 2009 at approximately 3:20 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Food Lion Store on Snow Hill Road for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival the officers were advised by store security personnel that the below listed suspect had taken a quantity of meat and seafood from the store without making payment. Employees followed the suspect into the parking lot where the suspect threatened the employees with a knife, before fleeing the area in a vehicle. Officers responding to the area located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The suspect, who was a passenger in the vehicle, exited the vehicle and threatened the officers with the knife before being overtaken and arrested. Contact with the driver of the vehicle revealed that the suspect had forced her to drive him away from the Food Lion by threatening her with the knife. A search of the suspect, incident to arrest revealed a smoking device containing suspected “crack”/cocaine.

ARRESTED: Timothy Eric Fontaine, 43 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

CHARGES:
Attempted murder (2 counts)
Carrying a dangerous and deadly weapon with the intent to injure (2 counts)
First degree assault (3 counts)
Second degree assault (3 counts)
Unlawful detention
Resisting arrest
Disorderly conduct
Reckless endangerment (4 counts)
Possession of cocaine
Possession of CDS/paraphernalia
Theft (under $ 100)
Malicious destruction of property

DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking CC # 200900005274


On February 17, 2009 at approximately 10:21 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to a physician’s office on East Carroll St. for the report of a trespasser. Upon arrival the officer found the below listed suspect in the physician’s office where he had locked himself inside of a restroom. The suspect was removed from the restroom and was taken into custody. The suspect failed to cooperate with the officers during the investigation of the incident.
ARRESTED: James Littleton Thomas, 50 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

CHARGES:
Trespassing
Obstructing and hindering an investigation

If that guy in the shoplifting case from Food Lion would have threatened police officers in Baltimore City with a knife, he would have been dropped where he stood. I commend the officers involved for not using deadly force, even though the old "the officers, feeling their lives were in imminent danger, pulled their service weapons and shot the supect... " was certainly an available and acceptable option.
