Police Academy Graduation

We are told there are 18 police officers graduating from the Police Academy at Wor Wic Community College today, two of which will be working for Mike Phillips at the Fruitland Police Department. It was also noted that Barrie Tilghman is in attendance of this graduating class. Is she recruiting for SPD? Interesting, to say the least.

Congratulations to the graduating class.

You have to already be hired by a police department to take the criminal justice class at WorWic, usually that comes with a contract so I seriously doubt that she will be recruiting.

no you do not, you can certainly pay your own way. many people do that

Anon 12:10 Thanks for that tidbit. I wasn't aware they were under contract. Still makes you wonder why BPT was there.

Congradulations to all the men and woman who have graduated. Thank-you for the dangerous job you are entering in service to us all. We citizens can only keep applying pressure to the OFFICIALS to try and make sure that you are well paid and have the equipment and staff to do your job well. Remember with power comes great responsibility.

You can no longer "pay your own way". You have to be employed by a police department to be allowed in the academy.
Perhaps SPD has an officer or more in this class.

I don't think SPD has any in this class! None the less its a good thing she goes, it shows some support, whether we like to give her credit or not!

Salisbury PD had two officers graduate today. Barrie was there to present them their certificates and other awards along with Chief Webster.

Occaisionally elected officials get invited to these graduations. I have been invited several times myself and yes I am an elected official that reads SBYnews.com

You absolutly can pay your way through. Several guys did it in the last class. I teach at the academy and know this for a fact. Most anyone that does pay there way, always end up with a job by the end of the academy. John Moses, Mr Beatty, Mr Rollyson and Mr Obrien are a great group of guys that make sure that local depts find out about these guys/gals that pay their way and assist with getting them jobs. Congrads to all of them that graduated. Be careful and the most important part of your job, is MAKE SURE YOU MAKE IT HOME TO YOUR FAMILY EACH NIGHT

Anonymous 3:50 it's good to know elected officials are invited and even better to know BPT took the time to show up.

Anyone who chooses to be a police officer of any dept. should be praised. To succeed and graduate thru this academy and then be on probation for another period. Way to go and CONGRATULATIONS!
Tilghman was most likely there to support the graduation class.

I was at the graduation and am a good friend of Mr. Moses who is the second in command at the academy. Moses and I have had conversation recently and I learned that they NO LONGER permit people to pay their own way through the academy. Each candidate MUST be sponsored by a law enforcement agency. Most Graduates sign a contract that must be repaid pro rata should an officer leave the employment of the sponsoring agency early. Salisbury DID have new officers in the class - I think it was three. I found it interesting that Barry Tilghman was the ONLY Mayor to present any officer with their certification. It was the Chiefs of Police who presented their officers with their certificates. Ol' Q ball just stood their.

Ocean City Police had three outstanding candidates. One of these candidates had the highest academic score in the history of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy.

When looking at the class it's proof positive that affirmative action is still hard at work.

Bullsh!t, she was there to support her ego. She is quickly running out of time.

Who will you all obsess over when BPT is out of office? Why does everything have to be about her? Enough all ready!

Any body know a deputy called Big Country?

I paid my own way through the academy and yes you must be sponsored by an agency. The trick is finding an agency that will sponsor you. Then again this may have changed as I went through some 8 years ago and was the only civilian in my class. I was hired by an agency about half way through.

Yes, Barrie was there. She would not let the Chief give out the diplomas. She had to "grab the glory." The Chief was the only police Chief not in uniform. He was not there to welcome his new officers, but to hold Barrie's hand, and see that she did not get DWI on her way home. She didn't stay long because there was no alcohol served. She turns my stomach. She disgust me, whenever I have to even look at her. I have left restaurants because she and Matt were there. I could not leave today. Thank God, she did not speak to me. It would have been very embarrassing for her.

Anonymous 5:14 said OCPD had 3 outstanding candidates. I saw 17 outstanding candidates...the whole damn class, from all over MD. They started out with 20 back in the summer and 17 made it through. These men and women put their lives on hold for 24 weeks and went through a tough training program. All this for a job that will not make them rich, a job that can tear apart families, a job where one has to prove oneself every day and every week, a job where you run towards danger when others are running away, and a job dealing with a segment of the population that hates their guts and will hurt or kill them if given the chance.

As far as the politicians go...I'll just give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were there to shake the hands of the people who will keep their respective cities from turning into complete hell holes. Invite the mayor, the dogcatcher or His Holiness the Pope for all I give a rat's ass.

So which minion of Dinglebarrie are you? Why are you defending her? Please sign your name.

8:19 -- Funny, you didn't sign your name so who are you to throw that stone?

As for dinglebarrie -- I don't live in Salisbury nor do I work there and could care less. I guess that's why I'm tired of hearing about BPT.

By the way, Joe, the Hebron IGA was robbed tonight and so was a patron who was leaving the store. Manhunt in progress as we speak!

I know Big Country. Why? He was hired by Fruitland and then went to Sheriff's

Since you don't live in Salisbury and could care less then mind your own damn business. Like Joe says you have that little x button in the right hand corner you can use it. There are more people in Salisbury and more people that are affected in this county by BPT than live in your little hick area so we don't care about you.

These new police officers are to be commended for entering a profession which is so essential yet so poorly compensated. I hope that, while we're assessing and organizing our economic needs as a society, we realize JUST how important they are to us. And begin to pay them what they deserve. That they choose to go into this line of work for the benefit to their community, and certainly not because the pay is so great. Bless and Protect Them, each and every one!

Anonymous said...

poorly compensated is only a local problem...I didn't know 50Gs starting with a $10,000 benefit by the time you figure in take home vehicles and free gas, put another 10,000 on top of that for overtime, and then realize we get a pension in the 80-85% range of salary after 30 some years.

How many people in Wi Co make that?????
Right........

oh hell yeah they make you sign a contract,,,5 years. they cant keep anyone longer than that. SAD! so many are unhappy,, not by the job duties but more the third floor. 1 cop is leaving for sure. they want to fire another because of 2 IA's that didn't go anywhere but put him back on FTO. 1 police officer had to go back to the police academy for some training. 1 cop is being sued,,,,again! that police department is a joke! THANK GOD I DONT WORK THERE. that department should have a anonymous comment box for their officers. take those comments and display them on this site.

9:55,
The department is NOT a joke...some people IN the department...yes! But the department as a whole is not a joke. Everyone has there bad apples.

Anon 10:33-anyone who works for a former RAT squad member is a joke, point blank and simple!

Don't give me that LEOPS sh$$ either...
