False Alarm On The Downtown Plaza

Fortunately a worker inside a building on the Plaza set off the alarm in their building. What I found most interesting however is, Station 16 has decent Staffing during the day but fall way short at night, when most of their calls come in. There's usually only 3 Firefighters per vehicle assigned/scheduled in the evening? Sleep tight Folks!

That is not just a Salisbury issue. There are more than one department in the Baltimore Washington Metro area that staff with three..... or less!!!

Not that I want to challenge what you're saying but it is very easy to put something like that up ANONYMOUSLY?

Secondly, do THEY have a $10,000,000.00 Fire Station with completely shitty Management who weren't prepared for such a move?

Joe,

The move has nothing to do with on duty staffing... Thats a career staffing issue..

NFPA says minimum of 4. When we kill a firefighter due to minimum staffing can start with the mayor and council with the blame. At least the chief has asked for more manpower.

Yes he did and the retired vollie that draws a fire fighters pension on the city council flat out said NO. NO FIREMEN, NO EMS, NO POLICE but you can have more toys.

He really supports you firefighters. NOT

It's a simple fact that many paid depts nationwide have a minimum staffing of 3. That's the way it is, like it or not. When the NFPA starts paying the payroll, then they'll get their way. Most municipalities will not pay for 4 to a crew.
Given your and the city's record of reprisals against firefighters, very few people are going to be willing to leave their name. I certainly am not.

Just like the IBEW; two electricians
to change one light bulb.

How about when someone gets hurt and hires a good lawyer. In the court they will reference NFPA and win. That is the standard we are being held to. To bad our leaders cant give us what we need.

I have to agree. Minimum staffing in AACO is 3. If you see more then 3 on any piece of equipment in AACO, it has volunteers on it.

Everyone has to remember the jurisdiction does not have to adopt any standard of the NFPA if they do not wish too.

You fellas got it all wrong. It is not the city that CAN'T give you what was promised or what you need. It is the mayor and her 3 flying monkeys that WON'T give you what was promised or needed. Debbie and Terry are the only 2 that fought for you guys and they fought hard knowing it was a losing battle but they still fought.

NOW, WAIT A MINUTE:

Blame Barrie and the bobbleheads -- Bubba Comegys, Louweasel Smith and Shameless Shields -- the other two members of the Ciuncil (Debbie Campbell & Terry Cohen) tried to stop them but were outvoted.

The NFPA isn't the law, just a guideline or a suggestion. Has to be adopted before it will hold up in court. As far as staffing, hit the pagers and you will get all the personnel you need. There are 3 stations in the city and 11 others in the county. But I do agree with Joe "shitty management."

Wrong answer dumb ass... Where do you get your facts? I think you watch to much drama on TV or do you get your education from the Daily Crimes?

For one thing, Lawyers don't make decisions, Judges do.

You morons act like there are fires numerous times a day every day of the week. I've got news for you.... it's not happening!!! When is the last time the city of Salisbury had a real structure fire??

If you will list to the scanner every day you will see that there are numerous ambulance calls sometimes 4 and 5 calls at a time. That is where the staffing issues are? Why are the so called leaders concerned about staffing those ambulances every day? Can someone tell me how many ambulances Salisbury has? How many are fully staffed? How many ambulances does the Town of Ocean City have? How many of those ambulances are fully staffed? How many ambulance calls does Salisbury have and how many ambulance calls does Ocean City have? What are the salary differences between the 2 towns? Can someone give us a run down on these issues?

Enquiring minds wanna know!

Ocean City EMS
est. 5000 EMS calls

In regards to the last comment the City o Salisbury runs about 8000 ambulance calls a year this is about the same as Ocean City some years OC is slower. The City of Salisbury has 5 ambulances 3 of which are staffed 24-7 365 tghe other two are staffed buy the career enigne crew at Sta. 16 and by the volunteers from the three stations. In regards to the salaries Ocean City smokes Salisbury. The City will never implementg a pay study as it is designed. A firefighter paramedic with 19 years will make about 52k per year with the Salisbury FD, Ocean City will make over 60k per year.

That is well over 60K for the Ocean City Paramedics and many get well over $100,000 per year. When there is overtime the paramedics actually get paid overtime. Salisbury doesn't pay overtime.

Ocean City has excellent leadership and Salisbury has piss poor leadership.
