Before it was all over I was questioning him, telling him about his illegal actions, and taking pictures of his car!!! We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Dear A&E,

I read that you are indefinitely suspending Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty after he quoted the Bible and said that the homosexual act is sinful. I get it, guys. I do. You punished the Christian guy for being a Christian because you got some angry emails from a bunch of whiny gay activists who lack the spine and maturity to deal with the fact that there are still people out there who have the guts to articulate opinions that they find disagreeable. In so doing, you’ve kowtowed to a pushy minority of vocal bullies who don’t even watch your channel, while alienating the fan base of the one show that keeps your entire network afloat.

Makes sense.

You’ve got standards, after all. You wouldn’t want to be associated with tasteless and inappropriate things. The people on Duck Dynasty can’t be allowed to run around being all Christian-like. It might ruin the reputation of the network whose other shows include Hoarders and Intervention — programs that invite viewers to gawk at drug addicts and the mentally ill for their own amusement.

The U.S. Army War College, which molds future field generals, has begun discussing whether it should remove its portraits of Confederate generals — including those of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.

Nestled in rural Pennsylvania on the 500-acre Carlisle Barracks, the war college is conducting an inventory of all its paintings and photographs with an eye for rehanging them in historical themes to tell a particular Army story.

During the inventory, an unidentified official — not the commandant, Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Cucolo III — asked the administration why the college honors two generals who fought against the United States, college spokeswoman Carol Kerr said.

Special Ops Vets Slam Military Benefit Cuts

Former members of U.S. special operations forces on Thursday demanded President Obama veto the budget bill Congress just passed, saying that the cuts to military retirement benefits — which even the bill’s authors now admit were a partial mistake — are an insult to veterans.

“As commander in chief, President Obama is the leader of the nation’s armed forces and he has a duty to protect the interests of all military members, both active and retired. He needs to veto the bill,” said Gary Stubblefield, a retired Navy SEAL Commander and chairman of Special Operations for America.

The new budget, which boosts spending in the short term in exchange for longer-term fee hikes and spending cuts, includes a provision that would reduce the cost-of-living adjustment for military retirees to 1 percent less than the rate of consumer inflation — and even reduces payments for veterans who were wounded in action.

Next Governor Should Get 20% Pay Raise To $180,000, Commission Recommends

Maryland’s next governor would get a 20% pay raise to $180,000 a year under recommendations made Tuesday night by the Governor’s Salary Commission.

Four other statewide officials — the lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, state treasurer and secretary of state — would also get a 20% pay hike over the four years of their terms from 2015 to 2018.

All these “constitutional officers,” except for the lower paid secretary of state, would make $149,500 by 2018.

Pope Spends His Birthday With The Homeless

The Pope turned 77 this week, but he didn't want an over-the-top birthday party. Although the Pontiff was given a cake by the children of the Vatican, he chose to celebrate his special day with local homeless people. The Pope's birthday cake was given to him by kids being treated at the Vatican's Pediatric Dispensary of Santa Marta, which treats some of the poorest children in Rome. Then, he invited four homeless men to come to mass, and share a meal with him in Vatican City. One of the four homeless men even brought his dog to the “family-style” breakfast, and the Pope's household staff was invited to join the small celebration. By dining with the sick and the homeless, Pope Francis has once again shocked the world by actually following biblical teachings.

Public To Weigh In On Proposed Wicomico Raises

SALISBURY – The Wicomico County Council voted to forward compensation increases for the county’s executive, council and sheriff’s position toward legislation to provide the opportunity for public input.

On Tuesday morning, the Wicomico County Council discussed the direction of compensation enhancements that were recommended to them last month by the Wicomico County Compensation and Allowance Commission.

The commission met three times during the summer and fall of 2013 to prepare recommendations regarding the compensation of the county executive, sheriff, council president, council vice president and council members. A few weeks ago, the commission presented a report that reflected significant disparities in a couple of the county official positions and seeks deep consideration for pay increases.

The Man They Still Hate -- JESUS

The world has long since forgiven Julius Caesar. Nobody today finds Socrates or Cicero irritating. Few of us resent Alexander the Great or his tutor, Aristotle.

No, only one man in the ancient world is still hated after two millennia: Jesus Christ.

This does not in itself prove the divinity of Christ, but it does show that his words and example haven’t dated. They still have an amazing power to provoke hatred as well as adoration.

Of course the hatred of Christ usually pretends to be directed at side targets: St. Paul, the “institutional” Church, or, more vaguely, “organized religion” (as if religion would be all right if only it were a solitary activity). The cliché of the Christ-haters, including many “liberal” theologians, is that he was a “great moral teacher” who “never claimed divinity,” but that his “simple message of love” was “corrupted” by his followers.

But why would anyone want a man crucified for preaching an innocuous message of benevolence? Jesus was accused of blasphemy for equating himself with the Father: “I and the Father are one.” “No man comes to the Father but by me.” And if his claim were untrue, the charge of blasphemy would be fully justified.

People not only saw him after the Resurrection, many of them died under torture to bear witness to him. The martyrs were the principal human “media” of Christianity in its infancy, deeply impressing and finally converting others. Christ was “revealed” to the ancient world in the courageous love of his best disciples.

SSA: Disability Recipients Soar, Funding Nearly Depleted Under Obama

The number of Americans receiving Social Security disability payments has increased 20 percent since President Barack Obama took office and the influx of new recipients has pushed the program close to insolvency.

The annual deficit in the Social Security Disability Trust Fund hit $31.49 billion in fiscal 2013 and the remaining balance of $100.49 billion in the fund will be depleted by 2016, the Social Security Administration predicts.

Edward Snowden Is A Patriot

As a whistleblower of illegal government activity that was sanctioned and kept secret by the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government for years, he undertook great personal risk for the public good. And he has single-handedly reignited a global debate about the extent and nature of government surveillance and our most fundamental rights as individuals.

Monday’s court ruling declaring the NSA surveillance program unconstitutional highlights the irony of the government’s prosecution of Snowden. For more than 12 years, the ACLU has raised concerns about the massive changes occurring in our democracy: the rubber stamping of expansive surveillance powers by the judiciary, the clandestine nature of programs that invade the rights and lives of millions of Americans with virtually no oversight, and the quiet acquiescence of a public that believed that individuals had nothing to fear if they had done nothing wrong.

That was true until Snowden awakened the American people – and others across the globe – from complacent lethargy. For his actions, Snowden should be applauded, not vilified. He should be granted full immunity from prosecution. And he should be allowed to resume his life in the United States as a proud American citizen.

Let’s unpack the arguments that are surely rifling through many Americans’ minds as to why Edward Snowden should not be granted immunity and allowed to return home.

Zero Herd Policy: Obama’s War On Wild Horses–Gone In 20 Years

This story seems like something from the 1800s. Since the 1970s, the federal government has balanced the rights of ranchers and railroads with those who enjoy the wild horse herds in the West. While there have been disputes on herd size and management, this story isn’t about that. The Obama Administration’s policy is one that find incredulous: U.S. policy is now aimed at zeroing out wild horse herd. It is one thing to manage them, but quite another to zero them out. While the focus of this article is on the Salt Wells group and the mistreatment that is currently underway, the White Mountain herd and the Great Divide Basin herd are also scheduled to be eliminated.

This is a planned extinction event.This is something your grandchildren will not see.

The wild herds will be no more. Your grandchildren will never see them, only read about them. The man who claimed to heal the oceans has waged war on wild horses in America’s West.

It is bad enough that the herds are being zeroed out. The treatment of the animals in the Spring Hills facility is just another sad chapter to this ongoing tale of how these iconic animals of the west were lost.

Citing ‘Unfair System,’ Obama Commutes Sentences For 8 Crack Offenders

President Obama on Thursday commuted prison sentences for eight people convicted of crack cocaine offenses, including a cousin of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, one of the president’s staunchest supporters.

The president pardoned 13 others, surpassing in the fifth year of his presidency all the acts of clemency from his entire first term.

“I am commuting the prison terms of eight men and women who were sentenced under an unfair system,” Mr. Obama said in a statement. “Commuting the sentences of these eight Americans is an important step toward restoring fundamental ideals of justice and fairness.”

DC Police: Re-Register Guns Or Pay Fine, Go To Jail

Beginning January 1, all Washington, D.C. gun owners are being required to re-register any guns that were registered "between 1976 and 2010." According to NBC Washington, this re-registration will take place every three years from this point forward.

Every three years, the Washington Metro Police Department (MPD) will send out forms requiring gun owners to verify that they "still live in the District and... still have your firearm." The penalties for not complying with re-registration range from "a $13 fee to a $1,000 fine and one year in jail."

HOMELESS STUDENT POPULATION RISES IN MARYLAND

COLLEGE PARK – Danny Lamont Jones seems like an average high schooler. He goes to class, and comes home and writes music when he can’t focus on his homework.

But for much of his high school career Jones, 18, wasn’t living like an average student. He attended four different high schools as he moved in and out of homes and shelters in Baltimore city. When he turned 12, he said, he moved into a shelter in for homeless teenagers.

“I had to make me own way from there,” said Jones, who now lives with his uncle.

Jones is one of thousands of students in Maryland who have experienced homelessness. The number of K-12 students identifying as homeless in U.S. public schools hit a record high 1.2 million during the 2011-2012 school year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

India Retaliates Against US Over Diplomat Arrest, Removes Security Barriers At Embassy

The Indian government retaliated Tuesday against the United States for the recent arrest and strip search of an Indian envoy -- going so far as to remove the concrete barriers at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and, reportedly, demanding American diplomats return their ID cards.

The clash between the two supposed allies escalated rapidly on the heels of last week's arrest of Devyani Khobragade, India's deputy consul general, in New York. She was accused of submitting false documents to obtain a work visa for her Manhattan housekeeper.

But Indian officials claimed she was arrested Thursday as she dropped off her daughter at school, kept in a cell with drug addicts before posting $250,000 bail, and strip-searched. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Tuesday that she had been strip-searched. This treatment in particular fueled outrage in India, and contributed to the diplomatic stand-off on Tuesday.

MSNBC HOST’S RADICAL IDEA: ‘EVERY NON-INCARCERATED ADULT CITIZEN GETS A MONTHLY CHECK FROM THE GOVERNMENT’

On Tuesday’s edition of MSNBC’s “The Cycle,” co-host Krystal Ball suggested that the United States implement a minimum guaranteed income for every “non-incarcerated adult citizen.” The enormous entitlement program would “eliminate poverty” completely, Ball claimed.

Referencing protests occurring across the globe, the MSNBC host made her pitch for a “monthly minimum income” or a “mincome.” The free government money would not only solve poverty, but it would not create deincentives to work, she claimed.

“The basic concept is simple,” she said. “Every non-incarcerated adult citizen gets a monthly check from the government. Other safety net programs are jettisoned to pay for the mincome, and poverty is eliminated.”

NARRATIVE: On December 10, 2013, the Maryland State Police and the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation were called to respond to the White Marlin Mall, 12641 Ocean Gateway, Ocean City, Maryland, regarding an assault that had occurred. During the investigation, it was found that a member of loss prevention for one of the outlet stores had attempted to stop a shoplifter from fleeing the business. The suspect exited the store and was followed by the loss prevention employee.

The loss prevention employee attempted to convince the suspect to return items that he had taken from the store. The suspect refused and entered a vehicle, identified as a newer model lime green Kia Soul. The suspect fled the scene, striking the loss prevention employee with the vehicle in the process.

During the investigation, the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation received numerous phone calls and tips regarding the identity of the suspect. Investigators were able to use the information obtained to positively identify the suspect as Mark Lee Donoway Jr.

Based upon the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained charging Donoway with Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Theft, and multiple traffic violations. Donoway was apprehended in Wicomico County on December 16, 2013, by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. Donoway was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was ordered held on $100,000 bond.

Ocean City Sets Key Comfort Station Deadline; City Engineer: ‘It’s A Shame It Had To Get To This Point’

OCEAN CITY – The Town of Ocean City is at its wits end with the delay of the Caroline Street Comfort Station completion as the contractor is warned its performance bond will be called if the project is not substantially complete by the end of the week.

On Monday evening, City Manager David Recor presented an update of the Town of Ocean City’s Strategic Plan and the progress of the plan’s action items during the past year. One of those action items was the reconstruction and completion of the Caroline Street Comfort Station on the Boardwalk. As of Monday, more than a year after demolition of the former structure and construction was initiated, the project is not finished, despite earlier deadlines of Memorial Day weekend and then subsequent proposed completion dates passing.

“As you are all aware, it is significantly behind schedule due to weather delays and contractor performance,” Recor said. “I have spoken with the city engineer and we are prepared to and will call the bond this Friday.”

Vice President Joe Biden continues to harass women the world over. Now it is White House Correspondent at The Hill, Amie Parnes, who posted a picture on her Facebook page showing the VP with his hands way too comfortably wrapped around her.

Apparently Biden does not know the universal rule of posing for a photo with a woman who is not your wife: simply stand next to her, arm HIGH on her shoulder, and maybe...no, that's about it.

16% Raise Recommended For Maryland Legislators Who Would Make $50,000 In 2018

Maryland legislators elected next year would see their salaries rise to $50,330 in 2018, a 16% raise over the next four years recommended Monday by the General Assembly Compensation Commission.

If the legislature accepts the recommendation, it would give the part-time lawmakers their first raise in eight years. Delegates and senators currently make $43,500.

The two presiding officers would also get a 16% pay hike over four years to $65,371 in 2018. The Senate president and House of Delegates speaker currently make $56,500.

Raising The Minimum Wage Would Hurt The People It's Supposed To Help

Hike the minimum wage. For politicians trying to show their concern for those on the lower rungs of the economic ladder, it’s a simple solution. It’s catching on again, with several states and municipalities approving local hikes, and a proposal before Congress to hike it by an unprecedented amount, from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour over the next two years.

Unfortunately, this seemingly obvious remedy is also a very bad idea, not only for the economy as a whole, but for the low-wage workers it is supposed to help.

Indeed, studies show that the latest congressional hike would likely eliminate some 300,000 jobs per year and lower our national economic output by more than $40 billion annually. Why? Because raising the cost of labor naturally makes it more expensive to hire, leading cash-strapped employers with no choice but to slow down or freeze hiring.

Those who blithely propose large minimum-wage increases are ignoring a basic economic truth: When you raise the cost of something, you slow down the rate at which people purchase it. They buy less. So an employer who might decide to hire another worker when the cost is relatively low will forgo that expense when it gets too high.

That, in turn, can be bad news for those who already work for that employer. He may have no choice but to work his other employees harder, when he could have taken a chance on an unskilled worker and given that individual a chance to prove himself and to move up.

Police Officer Body Slams Elderly Woman Onto Pavement

A police officer appeared to body slam an elderly woman face-first onto pavement after pulling her over for drunk driving.

Kathleen Mary Allegrone, 70, did in fact scream and try to resist the officer as he escorted her from her car to his police cruiser. But what happened next — and is preserved on video — shocked everyone.

The Glynn County, Ga., police officer lifted the woman into the air and threw her onto the street. The woman's face made a loud whack as it smashed against the concrete, according to the witness who recorded the incident with his cell phone.

Legal Experts From Left To Right: D.C. Cops Murdered Woman

WASHINGTON — No one knows what was on Miriam Carey’s mind when the 34-year-old dental hygienist from Connecticut drove up to a White House barricade on a balmy and clear Thursday afternoon Oct. 3 before exiting the restricted area, provoking at least seven shots from police.

Police pursued the Infiniti driven by Carey, who had her 2-year-old daughter with her in the backseat. When she stopped her vehicle near a Senate office building, an unknown number of shots rang out – all fired by law enforcement – and the single mother was killed. Her infant daughter was uninjured.

Two-and-a-half months later, police have still not issued a report on exactly what happened in the incident that paralyzed Washington for a day. But legal experts from the left and right are now calling Carey’s death at the hands of police “murder.”

Rhodes-58 of Milford, DE was operating a 1998 Lincoln Town Car traveling westbound on Milford Harrington Highway when he crossed into the eastbound lane, into the path of an oncoming vehicle operated by a male driver. The eastbound vehicle was able to take evasive action and avoid a collision with the Lincoln. The Lincoln traveled off of the south edge of the roadway through several bushes and came to a stop in a private driveway located in the 600 block of Milford Harrington Highway. The male operator of the eastbound vehicle turned around and proceeded to exit his vehicle and approach the Lincoln to check on the welfare of Rhodes, who was seated in the driver’s seat. Rhodes was observed holding a knife to his own throat, and the male operator was able to reach through the window, taking the knife and disarming Rhodes. Rhodes then became agitated and combative and produced a handgun from the center console of the Lincoln. Rhodes then exited his vehicle with the handgun as a Milford Police Department Officer arrived on scene. The Officer ordered Rhodes multiple times to put the gun down, at which he did not comply and raised the handgun in the direction of the Officer. The Milford Police Department Officer discharged multiple rounds from his department issued weapon, striking Rhodes three times in the upper body and lower extremity. Both the knife and the handgun were recovered at the scene.

Rhodes was transported by ambulance to the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Active warrants have been filed and he will be formally charged and arraigned when medically cleared.

There were no reported injuries to bystanders or the Milford Police Officer during this incident.

The Milford Police Officer involved in this incident is an 18 year veteran of the Milford Police Department. He has been placed on administrative duty as departmental policy, pending the outcome of the investigation. The Officer’s name will not be released at this time.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation at the request of the Milford Police Department. This is an active investigation with Detectives continuing their investigation, evidence processing, and interviews.

The 600 block of Milford Harrington Highway between Canterbury Road and Williamsville Road was closed to traffic for approximately 3 hours while the incident was investigated and processed.

US Existing-Home Sales Tall To 4.9M Pace, 3rd Straight Decline And Weakest In Nearly A Year

WASHINGTON – The number of people who bought existing U.S. homes in November declined for the third straight month. Higher mortgage rates have made home-buying more expensive, while the lingering impact of the October government shutdown may have deterred some sales.

The National Association of Realtors says home sales fell 4.3 percent to an annual rate of 4.90 million. That's the weakest pace since December 2012, and the first time since April that the pace has slipped below 5 million.

Colorado Bill Would Use Tax Credits To Offset ObamaCare Penalty

Two Republican lawmakers in Colorado plan to introduce a proposal that would make it easier for residents to opt out of ObamaCare by creating a tax deduction to offset the federal penalty for not purchasing health insurance.

State Reps. Dan Nordberg, R-Colorado Springs, and Jared Wright, R-Fruita, announced this week that they will introduce the Healthcare Liberty Act when the state's 2014 legislative session convenes in January, KDVR.com reported.

Under the proposal, anyone who is fined for failing to purchase health insurance would be given a state tax deduction in an amount equal to the federal tax penalty. The deadline for avoiding penalties under ObamaCare is March 31.

No Seats, No Seatbelts, No Unenclosed Coastal Highway Cruising

City council approved the first reading this week of a code revision that would ban passengers riding without seats or seatbelts in the unenclosed areas of vehicles.

Specifically, the policy targets the unmistakable phenomenon of early June in the resort, where high-school students cruise Coastal Highway in the beds of pickup trucks, despite the obvious safety concerns involved – and the annoyance for residents.

“I like the idea that it’s going to cut down on the rowdiness,” said Councilman Brent Ashley. “I think this is two-fold. Public safety number one, and quality of life number two.”

The change will become law if it receives a second favorable vote at the Jan. 6 council session.

This result is no surprise. SS's finances deteriorate every year. What I found interesting is the extent of the deterioration. 2013 was the best year since 2008 for the broad economy. We had fairly steady growth in the economy, and the job market improved significantly. But the red ink at SS rose very rapidly.

In 2012 a 'fix' for SS would have required an immediate and permanent tax increase of 1.95%. A year later the cost of the fix has risen to 3.36%. That's a 70% deterioration in twelve months. To right the SS ship a payroll tax increase equal to $180B would be required for 2014, and that higher tax rate would have to be sustained forever. A tax increase of this magnitude would sink the economy into a recession that the country would struggle to get out of.

State Sees Sustainable Future Blowing In Wind Off Ocean City

State and national officials announced on Tuesday a proposed notice of sale for nearly 80,000 acres off Ocean City’s shoreline to be used for commercial wind farm development.

“Today’s announcement brings our state one step closer to harnessing the tremendous potential of offshore wind energy,” said Gov. Martin O’Malley, who made the announcement alongside Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Director Tommy Beaudreau in Baltimore.

“The development of offshore wind will drive economic development in Maryland, create high-quality, family-supporting jobs for Maryland residents and play a major role in reducing emissions and protecting the environment,” said O’Malley, a longtime champion of the project.

Pennsylvania Fracking Clears Air In N.Y., But Gov. Cuomo In No Rush To Allow It

(CNSNews.com) – A long-delayed decision on fracking in New York isn’t expected any time soon.

“I want the right decision, not necessarily the fast decision,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told a news conference on Monday. “It’s one of the most important decisions I think we will make as a government, with far-reaching consequences – good and/or bad.”

Calling it a “very controversial field with very high stakes,” Cuomo mentioned “potential health consequences, danger, risk -- versus economic benefit.” He’s leaving it to his advisers to work at their own pace.

Gov. Cuomo’s comments came several weeks after National Public Radio reported that fracking in Pennsylvania “helps clear the air in New York.”

On Nov. 28, NPR’s “Morning Edition” reported that New Yorkers are switching to natural gas while saving money and cleaning up the air.

WOMEN ENTERING PRISON AT HIGHER RATES

WASHINGTON – Anna Davis spent four months this year in the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women in Jessup, where she said she found herself in the same living pod as an inmate who raped another woman with a curling iron.

Pamela Griffith, now a psychology student, was imprisoned there several years ago after being convicted of theft. She had similar concerns about being housed with inmates from multiple security levels.

“There’s no way to physically separate the lifers from the others … These women have nothing to lose,” Griffith said.

Women are entering the U.S. prison system at a faster rate than any other group, and they face an array of issues that male inmates don’t, including pregnancy and higher rates of mental health issues stemming from the tangled web of trauma, homelessness, and sexual abuse. Drugs are often a way to cope.

Polls: 77 Percent Of Uninsured Don't Want Obamacare, Majority Of Voters Want Repeal

Two out of three voters want Obamacare delayed, including a majority of Democrats who now say they want the new healthcare law postponed — a surge in sentiment that has climbed 10 percent since October in the latest Fox News poll.

A majority said they would vote to have the new healthcare law repealed, if they were able, and they wish it had never passed and the old system was still in place, according to the poll taken Dec. 14-16 of 1,027 registered voters across the country.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Gantt told his wife to remarry if he didn’t come back from the war. She told him no. He had a hard enough time getting her to say yes. He was it.

Ben Carson: I Can't Find A Doctor Who Likes Obamacare

Renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson says he's been having "great difficulty" finding doctors who have anything good to say about Obamacare.

He told Fox News Channel's Stuart Varney that he's spoken to hundreds of doctors throughout the country about the Affordable Care Act, and not one of them "liked" President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law.

COMMUNITY GROUPS WORK TO OVERCOME LANGUAGE BARRIERS IN OBAMACARE SIGNUP

COLLEGE PARK – Community health organizations in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties are working to overcome language barriers that have prevented non-English speakers from completing Obamacare insurance applications.

The state’s online insurance marketplace, the Maryland Health Connection, only provides application materials in English and Spanish. To meet the needs of Spanish-, French- and Chinese-speaking residents, representatives from CASA de Maryland and the Asian American Health Initiative have attended outreach events and developed their own materials on purchasing Affordable Care Act insurance plans.

Del. Ana Sol Gutierrez, D-Montgomery County, said organizations like CASA and AAHI should not be expected to fill the gap. Government entities like the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange should be responding to the concerns of non-English speakers, she said.

Does anyone else find this chart shocking?

Here’s the source. I was looking up the proportion of part-time versus full-time workers to see if the passage of ObamaCare had any noticeable impact.

(Note: Be sure to look carefully at the left and right axes. It’s not that the whole composition of the workforce has flipped.)

I don’t think you can pin the blame on ObamaCare in isolation (it passed in March 2010), but the so-called Great Recession has been qualitatively worse than the dot-com bust. My short explanation is that the combination of economic turmoil and “regime uncertainty” in general (not just ObamaCare) has made employers very reluctant to commit to a full-time hire.

Profile Of The Original 'Welfare Queen'

Ronald Reagan told the story of a benefit stealing "welfare queen" back in 1976 to argue for smaller, leaner government. Liberals have complained about the generalization ever since. Paul Krugman called it a "bogus story" as recently as 2007.

It turns out there was a real welfare queen, and that name was given to her by the Chicago Tribune, not Ronald Reagan. According to an excellent piece by Josh Levin for Slate, stealing welfare under false names may have been the least of her crimes:

When I set out in search of Linda Taylor, I hoped to find the real story of the woman who played such an outsize role in American politics—who she was, where she came from, and what her life was like before and after she became the national symbol of unearned prosperity. What I found was a woman who destroyed lives, someone far more depraved than even Ronald Reagan could have imagined. In the 1970s alone, Taylor was investigated for homicide, kidnapping, and baby trafficking. The detective who tried desperately to put her away believes she’s responsible for one of Chicago’s most legendary crimes, one that remains unsolved to this day. Welfare fraud was likely the least of the welfare queen’s offenses.

Former Eagles Cheerleader Rachel Washburn Now Stars For Army

As a Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader, Rachel Washburn toted pom-poms. As an Army intelligence officer with a special ops combat unit in Afghanistan, she carried an assault rifle and pistol. She was a pioneer in a special mission to relate to local women in ways that would be culturally inappropriate for male troops - including helping deliver an Afghan baby in a snowstorm.

Washburn, 25, who recently returned from her second tour in Afghanistan, will be honored Sunday night as a "Hometown Hero" by the Eagles at their home against the Chicago Bears.

Pastor Leads Church In Harsh Alaska Frontier

With a population under 4,000 and an average temperature well below zero degrees in the winter, the city of Nome stands on the far reaches of Alaska’s frontier.

Nome Covenant Church, led by Pastor Harvey Fiskeaux, was faced with a house of worship that was too small and failing apart. The building was being held together by cables and the roof had sagged, says Fiskeaux.

“Our old church was 75 years old, it was built with available materials at that time,” Fiskeaux told Fox News’ Lauren Green. “I was actually fearful it was going to fall in.”

Fiskeaux believes the church has an important role in the community.

OCPD AND SANTA HOUSE TOY DRIVE A SUCCESS

The Ocean City Police Department’s Holiday Food and Toy Drive proved to be a blessing to many local families this holiday season. OCPD partnered with the Santa House, Inc. this year. The Santa House took in the many toys and donations and OCPD served as both a drop off and a distribution point. On December 17, OCPD gave food, toys and clothes to over 50 families and the Santa House served a combined total of over 500 families throughout the three distribution points: OCPD, Showell Fire Department and the Santa House warehouse in Snow Hill.

 

“The community we live in is a very benevolent one and it was extraordinary to witness the giving spirit during the holiday season,” said Ocean City Police Chief Ross Buzzuro. “Partnering with the Santa House was a great idea and we hope to continue this partnership in the future. We were able to serve the families of Ocean City as well as throughout Worcester County.”

 

Several Ocean City businesses and organizations contributed to the success of the Food and Toy Drive. Contributions were made by the Toys for Tommy campaign, Delmarva Condominium Managers Association, Atlantic Physical Therapy, Ocean City Parrotheads Clubs, Fager’s Island, Caine Woods Association, Ladies Hibernians, and the many people who donated directly to the Santa House. We would also like to thank all of the community members who dropped off toys and donations throughout the holiday season. Thanks to all of these donations, families all over Worcester County will have a joyous holiday season and children will have a gift to open Christmas morning. OCPD would like to thank each and every one of you.

Harry Reid Takes Taxpayer Subsidy: 'My Employer Helps Me Pay For My Health Care'

(CNSNews.com) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.), whose salary is $193,400 a year, said he has purchased a health care plan through the D.C. Obamacare exchange and that he is accepting the federal subsidy that can run up up to $11,378 per year for a member of Congress to purchase a plan on that exchange.

“I’m just like 150 million other people in America,” Reid said. “My employer helps me pay for my health care.”

POLICE CRACK DOWN ON MARYLAND OYSTER POACHING

ANNAPOLIS- The weeks before Christmas tend to be the most active for oyster poachers, but the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and State Police hope new technology and harsher penalties will help crack down on illegal oyster harvesting in the Chesapeake Bay.

Poaching includes harvesting undersized oysters, exceeding bushel limits or harvesting in areas designated as sanctuaries, Maryland Natural Resources Police Capt. David Larsen said.

Oyster poaching has also become a large problem over the years, because it undermines attempts at restoring oyster populations. Mostly due to overharvesting and disease, “currently less than 1 percent of historic levels of oysters exist in the bay,” Sarah Widman, a Department of Natural Resources Fishery spokeswoman said. Poaching also compromises researchers’ ability to gather data. “It’s very frustrating from a scientific perspective,” said Don Meritt, director of the Horn Point Laboratory.

The ACA depends on Millennials picking up the tab — as they already are for other entitlements — in the midst of a bad economy.

There are all sorts of time bombs embedded within Obamacare.

Will we force doctors to treat the millions of new Medicaid patients who are signing up for services that can be only partially reimbursed? How exactly will the IRS collect penalties from millions of off-the-books youth who choose not to buy coverage?

Of the newly insured who chose not to buy health insurance in the past, how many will follow through on their initial signups with steady monthly premium payments? If many don’t, how will we collect what they owe? Will all those who lost their coverage have enough money to buy the costlier Obamacare replacement plan?
