Obama’s Path Not Taken

by Victor Davis Hanson
Pajamas Media

What Might Have Happened

Remember Obama’s initial signature speech (e.g., “there is not a liberal America and a conservative America — there is the United States of America”), and all the subsequent conciliatory talk of no blue state, no red state America? Obama won, of course, because he captivated the tiny, but influential left, registered vast numbers of new minority voters, raised a billion dollars, and reconstituted the liberal base. But the key margin that got him from 45 to 53% were the independents and old Reagan Democrats. And what put them on board was not just their weariness with George Bush, but rather their flawed hunch that Obama was another Clinton rather than Carter, a realist and centrist rather than an ossified ideologue, who could talk well, bring factions together, and govern from the center.

Had Obama just continued his charade of the campaign in which he reassured centrists on taxes, defense, energy, and spending, he would now be in a far stronger position with Congress, and not falling in the polls.

Imagine not that in his first six months Obama had acted like a conservative (he could not since he won on a liberal agenda), but simply as a more moderate Clinton-like Democrat, albeit with more humility and skepticism:

1) Financial. Barack Obama rallies the nation in January to hang tough and await the natural upswing after the bust that followed an unusual boom period of a near decade. There is no wasted stimulus. There is no $2 trillion deficit. Instead, he promises to hold spending to an annual rise of 2%, and reassures the country that balanced budgets are on the way. Markets steady on news that we won’t be adding another $11 trillion to the debt, and Obama gets credit for the natural cyclical upsurge.

2) Taxes. Obama says he ran on the Clinton-era tax rates — and so must keep his word. Top rates go to 39.5%, but there is no further talk of a healthcare surcharge, much less a lifting of the FICA caps on income over $106,000. In other words, Obama is a classically liberal tax-raiser, who salivates over a 50% state and federal combined rate — but not one approaching 70% in some states. The public accepts that he is a Democrat of the tax and spend sort, but is assured he is no socialist.

3) Reconciliation. After the obligatory two to three weeks of throat-clearing and liberal trashing of his predecessor, Obama by March goes quiet on Bush. To the extent he mentions him, he praises the prior President for keeping us safe for seven years, but promises to do far better on the budget. He taps into independents’ and moderates’ dissatisfaction with the previous deficits, but wins points for magnanimity by not serially evoking “he did it.” In other words, he is not a “they raised the bar on me”/“he did it, not me”/“his mess, not mine” whiner.

4) No apologies. When abroad, Obama makes few apologies. He promises to listen anew, even suggests that there is a new era in American diplomacy — but eschews all the ‘reset’ button jargon. He never mentions all the past tropes about Native Americans, the atomic bomb, colonialism, racism, insensitivity to Muslims, and all the other ways in which he has apologized for an apparently embarrassing America — convinced that unapologetic Russians, Chinese, Germans, Japanese, and others have far more to atone for than does his own country. Instead, in his first six months we hear of things like Shiloh, Guadalcanal, Midway, Inchon, Chosin, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, the Wright Brothers, and lions like Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman, in addition to his de rigueur citations of slavery, racism, sexism, class strife and all the other sins of America.

5) Go slow. Obama regrets that the financial meltdown of autumn 2008 has slowed his agenda. He will reform but not reinvent health care; he will strive for more autonomous energy sources—wind, solar, bio—but also more domestic natural gas, oil, shale, coal, and nuclear to improve our independence and balance sheet. He will encourage green power, but show hesitation about cap-and-trade, until issues of cost and international compliance are solved.

6) Race. As was the case of Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, Obama will let his own expertise and competence speak about his race. In other words, he will evolve beyond the constant referencing of his own diversity, non-traditional profile, post-racial heritage, transracial blah, blah, blah. When he speaks to African-American audiences it will be in the same cadence and accentuation that he employs when talking to white audiences or vice versa. He will make plenty of so-called diversity appointments but not the sort who constantly self-reference themselves as “Latinas” or dress down the nation as “cowards” on matters of race. Being part African will be incidental not essential to his public persona as he lets others, not himself, make of it what they wish.

7) The Democratic House. Obama quickly sizes up Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank as, well, crazy and polarizing, and in 1994-Clinton fashion begins to triangulate. Like Truman, he talks of social justice, but always juxtaposed with references to strong national defense, American exceptionalism and the need for fiscal sobriety. Those whom Frank and Pelosi turn off don’t see Obama in quite the same league.

8) Low Profile. Instead of hourly appearing on television and engaged in non-stop travel, Obama is seen only weekly, and his speeches are unique and much anticipated in part due to their very rarity. The first person plural “we” is used instead of “I” — as in the unfortunate “my team,” “as I have ordered,” “let me be perfectly clear,” “it isn’t about me,” etc.

9) Truth. Obama gains a reputation for honesty and consistency. If he says he will shut down Guantanamo, we know that he shuts down Guantanamo. If 95% of Americans are told that they will see no new taxes, they will not. If he promised during the campaign to drill offshore, explore for shale and natural gas, build nuclear, then he will. Obama really will have no earmarks, lobbyists, or ethically-compromised tax cheats in his cabinet. He gets the reputation of a stubborn ethicist, rather than a charismatic Chicagoan Blagoan. When he talks of history, Obama has his facts, and is accurate, and so cites its tragedy of bad and worse choices, rather than make it up as you go, in the therapeutic fashion of ‘if we were not perfect then we were not good.’
10) Allies. Obama is immune to third-world romance and sees nothing but thuggery in the Castros, Chavezes, Ortegas, and Ahmadinejads of the world. He is to the left of Bush, but understands that a Uribe, Maliki, and Netanyahu are closer to American values than the alternatives. As a liberal, he talks of empathy with those who support democracy in Iran, Iraq, and central America, and is an advocate for human rights without ambiguity.

I say all of the above not because it is at all believable, but only because that had he taken such a path he would have continued to mesmerize the country. In contrast, most of us (but not all) realized that the above is completely ridiculous and the real story is the rush to neo-socialism either to beat the impending popular backlash or in hopes of a massive-deficit-driven inflationary upsurge that gives us a year of recovery before the tab of stagflation comes due.

In 1968 a divided country elected Nixon “to bring us together” in the mistaken notion that he was a Reaganesque conservative rather than a vindictive partisan. So too forty years later, mutatis mutandis, the country wanted to go a notch left, and ended up instead with a European socialist nursed in the politics of Chicago — and like Nixon, unless he changes, doomed to implode.

Is The Recession Over?

Is the recession over? Not bloody likely. First of all, calling the current economic contraction a recession is like calling Bubonic Plague a slight illness. We are clearly in the worst economic contraction since the Great Depression. Secondly, the official organization that dates recessions -- the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) -- defines the current recession based primarily on job losses -- not two consecutive quarters of GDP contraction.

And by that measure the NBER judged that the recession began in December 2007. With about 6.5 million jobs lost since then and another 546,000 initial jobless claims in the most recent July week for which statistics are available, it is difficult to see how anyone could make the claim that the recession is over. To be fair, that number is down from previous months but it still suggests a substantial number of lost jobs.

The Kratovil – ObamaCare Shuffle

First District Congressman “Blue Dog” Frank Kratovil may just wind up on next season’s Dancing With the Stars.  To get re-elected, he needs to keep that left wing, special interest money flowing.  To do that, he must do the bidding of the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, and Chris Van Hollen.  Yet, by doing their bidding he risks that very same re-election.  For these reasons, Kratovil is always engaged in some new dance designed to deceive his constituents while staying in the good graces of his DC masters.  Kratovil’s newest dance is the “ObamaCare Shuffle”.

According to “Blue Dog” Frank, we need to be “deliberative”:

“The President opened his press conference by stating, ‘If we do not control these costs, we will not be able to control our deficit.’  I could not agree with him more.  I share the President’s views that for the sake of our nation’s fiscal future, we urgently need to pass comprehensive health care reform that expands coverage and brings costs under control.

“That’s why I was deeply concerned to hear the director of the Director of the Congressional Budget Office testify last week that the legislation now pending before the House would not adequately address the cost crisis, and would actually worsen our long-term fiscal outlook.  While I agree with President Obama that skyrocketing costs and a lack of coverage signal a need to reform the health care system in our country, the CBO’s findings cast legitimate doubts as to whether the legislation currently before the House will accomplish these shared goals.

“At the very least, these legitimate questions about this bill’s long-term fiscal implications should highlight the need to be deliberative and thorough in reviewing this health care reform legislation.  We should not rush any plan through Congress that has not been properly vetted.  Getting this right is more important than getting this done by an artificial deadline.

“I realize that there are some in Congress who will oppose any type of reform, not based on merit but for purely political reasons.  But for those of us who reject this obstructionism and are firmly committed to reforming our system the right way, it is imperative we spend the time to get this right.  I have urged both the White House and leaders in Congress to make sure we have enough time to thoroughly review any proposal before a vote.  I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing right, and I will not support any proposal until its impacts on costs, coverage, and rural access have been thoroughly examined.”

Translation – Just like PORKULUS and “Cap and Tax”, I’m going to vote to saddle Americans with a crushing debt.  However, just like “Cap and Tax” I’m working diligently to grab a few pork scraps so I don’t look like a complete slave to my masters in Washington.  When my press secretary, Kevin Lawlor, has figured out how to explain the betrayal of First District citizens in order to allow government to take over our health care system I’ll be casting my vote in support of Nancy Pelosi.  Let’s face it; a slim majority of votes may have put me in office but none of that would have been possible without Pelosi, the DCCC, and the radical special interests who are my real constituents.

If you missed this meeting last week, take the time to view this video, especially those young democrats who were too afraid to be there and listen to the truth. They have time to complain but they don't find the time to get educated first. This goes for you too Mr. Kratovil.

State Police Nab Two In Fraud Scheme

Suspect(s):
Tena Abernathy, 51, of Mast Circle, Dover, Delaware
John T. Moore, 57, of Mast Circle, Dover, Delaware

Resume: Detectives from DSP Troop 3 have made a pair of arrests on Friday the 24th in a fraud scheme that bilked citizens and businesses alike, from all across the country, of over $13,000.00

This case came to light on May 21st when a police officer from the Stevens Point Police Department, in Wisconsin, called Troop 3 detectives advised one of their residents reported being unknowingly caught up in a complicated check fraud scheme when he tried to sell his car online.

The resident used Craigslist.com to list his car and made arrangements to complete the sale via check after an interested party sent him an email. A short time later this subject received the check. It was for more than the asking price for the car. With the check came a set of directions. It advised a portion of the check was for the car, a portion for the troubles of the seller and a portion to be sent to Tena Abernathy in Dover, Delaware via Money Gram (the seller was to obtain the Money Gram himself). The seller did as directed, but later learned the original check he got was counterfeit. It was also noted that no one came to get the car.

As the investigation continued and more cases were linked together, detectives learned that in April and May, Tena Abernathy, and her accomplice John T. Moore, had compromised multiple credit cards and began to make various online purchases primarily for office equipment.

Warrants were completed and on Friday Abernathy and Moore were charged with identical offenses: eight counts of Theft by False Pretense (felony), two counts of Theft by False Pretense (misdemeanor) and two counts of Unlawful Use of a Credit Card (misdemeanor). Both subjects were released on a $20,000.00 unsecured bond.

Investigators are asking that anyone who believes that they too have been victimized by these two suspects to call the Troop 3 Financial Crimes Unit at 302.697.4454.

Underscoring the idea how this type of credit card and fraud scheme knows no boundaries, the victims identified in this investigation thus far are from the following states: Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky.

Now What?

Good Morning AMERICAN CITIZENS,

In Harford County, MD, WE have been very successful in our efforts to reign in government taxation and most importantly spending. Let's pause, take a breath, and review what the TEA PARTIES have recently accomplished for all of us.

#1. WE forced a reduction in the Harford County Property Tax rate. This was a step in the right direction, but our taxes still increased for fiscal year 2010. (The politicians will tell you that they lowered your taxes, but look at your tax bill. It's more than it was last year.)

# 2. WE helped the County Council decide to lower the cap on residential real estate property taxes from 9% to 5%. This means that the taxpayers in Harford County will save more than $850M over the next decade. Tell your friends; but don't ask for recognition. If they want to thank you, tell them to join with US at the next Council rally or Liberty-minded group meeting to continue the battle.

# 3. WE have brought the taxing and spending of elected officials to the forefront of people's minds at the town, state, and national level. We will not stop now.

The biggest accomplishment that WE have achieved, and that which WE are most proud of, is getting people involved in the political process. For too many years citizens have felt helpless against the tax increases and lack of accountability among our representatives. Since early this year concerned citizens have gotten up from their couches and kitchen tables and have shown our ELECTED OFFICIALS that we will no longer sit idly by complaining with empty words while our futures are leveraged and our liberties violated.

As WE develop a plan of action for the future, WE call on all AMERICANS to join us.
Heed the call. It is for you, your children and your grandchildren.

We need people to examine the County budget starting this fall. We need people to assist in planning and doing. We need liberty-minded individuals to run for office and defend the Constitution. Become a part of the process. Earn the right to complain. Remember, talk without action is meaningless. Feel free to email any of US with your thoughts and concerns. However, the best way to get your voice heard and to make a difference is to get involved with one of our local groups.

"Free Markets"

General Motors can move its factories to Mexico to make Chevy Suburbans and claim it is a free market.

Mattel can outsource its toy manufacture to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it is a free market.

Any "U.S." company can incorporate outside the U.S. to avoid taxes and claim it is a free market.

The Hewlett-Packard printers we buy are made in Mexico.

The Lands' End shirts we buy shirts often are made in Bangladesh or Pakistan, or?

Many of the tools, appliances, clothes, trinkets, car parts, you name it are made in China,

In fact, much of what we purchase today came from a foreign country, but heaven help the elderly who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian pharmacy. Those drugs may not be safe because they are coming from a "foreign country" and those elderly buying them are un-American."

And you think the pharmaceutical companies do not have a powerful lobby? Think again!

Guide To Hidden Airline Fees

These days, it'll cost you! Here’s what to expect on 14 major carriers

Planning to attend your annual family reunion in Chicago, you spend hours searching online for the best available plane fare. Finally, success: on a discount-booking site you find a round-trip ticket on US Airways for less than $180. Done deal.

At the airport, though, you discover that checking your two suitcases (one heavy with presents for family members) will set you back $50. Then, on the plane, a flight attendant informs you that a pillow and blanket will cost you another $7. Headphones to screen out the crying baby in the next row: $5. Same price for a can of beer to help you take the edge off. By the time you’ve reached your destination, your wallet’s lighter by about $70—almost half the price of your original ticket.

The extra fees that airlines now charge passengers—for everything from in-flight snacks to choosing a window or aisle seat—can accrue alarmingly fast. And when you can easily find yourself bumped from an overbooked flight, or sitting inexplicably on the tarmac for hours without taking off, they can seem like insult added to injury.

Mother Says Devil Made Her Kill Baby

3 1/2 week-old infant found stabbed and decapitated in Texas home

DALLAS
- Police said they found a 3 1/2-week-old infant stabbed and decapitated in a Texas home on Sunday and his mother screaming that she killed her son after the devil told her to do it.

Otty Sanchez, 33, of San Antonio, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with self-inflicted stab wounds to her chest and stomach, said San Antonio police spokesman Joe Rios. Investigators took a sword, a machete and a kitchen knife from the home.

Officers also found two children unharmed at the home, though it wasn't immediately clear where they were taken.

Ex-Champ Vernon Forrest Shot, Killed

ATLANTA (AP) -- Vernon Forrest, a former three-time champion who gained stardom when he became the first boxer to defeat "Sugar'' Shane Mosley, was shot to death during an apparent robbery in Atlanta, police said Sunday.

Sgt. Lisa Keyes said in an e-mail Sunday that Forrest, 38, was shot several times in the back Saturday night, which an autopsy confirmed. Keyes said there are no suspects.

"Vernon was one of the few decent people in boxing,'' promoter Gary Shaw said. "I mean really decent. He cared about mentally challenged adults. He cared about kids. I just can't believe it.''

Clinton Paints Robust Picture Of U.S. Abroad

The secretary of state stands behind the Obama administration

WASHINGTON
- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton stood fast Sunday behind the Obama administration's readiness to engage with foes like Iran and North Korea and heaped praise on China in advance of two days of critical talks aimed at easing the global economic downturn.

Insisting Washington remained open to dialogue with Tehran, Clinton declined to reveal any specifics of a possible defense umbrella she recently mentioned as a means of protecting Mideast allies against Iran's nuclear program.

Clinton also implicitly urged Israel to set aside any plans it might have for a pre-emptive strike on Iranian nuclear sites and to give U.S. policy time to work.

Survey: Gas Prices Nationwide Drop 7 Cents

Analyst Trilby Lundberg: It appears the rate of decline is slowing

CAMARILLO, Calif.
- The U.S. price of gasoline fell about 7 cents a gallon during the past two weeks to $2.49, for a gallon of regular unleaded.

That’s according to the national Lundberg Survey of fuel prices released Sunday.

Analyst Trilby Lundberg says it appears the rate of decline is slowing. The latest average price of regular gasoline is $1.51 below the price at the same time last year, which peaked at an all-time high of $4.11.

Editors Note: This is interesting because gas prices went up, (on average here on the Shore) 4 cents per gallon since yesterday.

What’s a MAPP?

Have you ever wondered how your electrical power gets to your home or business?  If you live on the Delmarva peninsula, there’s only way – moving south from New Castle County.  This causes congestion in our area grid that costs Delmarva ratepayers approximately $100 million per year.  Fortunately, Delmarva Power has proposed a solution – the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway, or MAPP.

The MAPP, as proposed, will run from Dominion Virginia Power’s Possum Point station in Prince William County, Virginia to Mirant’s Chalk Point plant, to Constellation Energy’s Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant.  From there power will be converted from AC to DC, and travel under the Chesapeake Bay and through Dorchester County to NRG’s Vienna station.  There it will be converted back to AC and continue its path to NRG’s Indian River plant near Millsboro, in Sussex County, Delaware.

Besides helping to ensure a reliable power supply to the Delmarva peninsula, ratepayers will actually see a cost savings.  The cost of building an operating the MAPP will be less than the current congestion charges being paid to the grid operator.

If this is so great, why isn’t the MAPP completed already?  As usual, the majority of citizens are being held hostage by the usual NIMBY and tree hugging crowd.  Sure, I understand that not too many of us want high voltage power lines running through our neck of the woods.  Of course, we expect the lights to come on when we flip that switch.  Don’t we?

Dorchester County is the primary battleground.  That’s not because of the good folks in Dorchester; it’s because that is where Delmarva Power has to obtain new right of way.  In the other areas along the MAPP route, right of way already exists in most places.

However, I hope that we’ll begin to see the benefits of the MAPP in the next few years.  Delmarva Power has retained Cathy Bassett, former Rep. Wayne Gilchrest’s Communications Director, to take point on this matter.  Bassett is working hard to reach out to members of the affected communities and explain why we need the MAPP and its benefits to all of us.  Bassett has earned a lot of credibility with Shore residents over the years and I am confident that she’ll be able to overcome the fear mongering of those who seem to believe that sitting in the dark is a reasonable alternative.

ALERT

All Senior Citizens
- this information is vital to your interests -

If you know any Senior Citizens please alert them to this clear and present danger to their lives. Post this on every site you can. Send copies of this alert to everyone on your mailing list. Obama has declared war on Senior Citizens.

Our Orwellian President, Obama, in order to raise money for his health care plan without increasing taxes (this is part of the deal for passage of this atrocity) is planning to save 1/2 Billion dollars by cutting Senior Citizens Medicare benefits and by helping them commit suicide so they are "no longer a burden on our Medicare System.". This is UNCONSCIONABLE and must be stopped.

It pains me to learn that at 69, I, a father of 6, a grandfather of 12, suffering with arthritis, high blood pressure and survivor of a 7 bypass heart operation is considered expendable and a "BURDEN" to the country I helped to defend as a younger man and sent my sons to defend, by the President of that very same country..

AARP has sold out the seniors it purports to support by supporting Obamacare because they were promised by Obama to be HIS Health Care Plan administrator. This is worth BILLIONS to AARP. This is why AARP supports OBAMACARE. Their support was bought plain and simple. The fact that they are acting as a "Judas Goat" to the people they are an advocate for is deplorable. I have canceled my AARP membership and throw all their propaganda into the trash without opening it. I suggest you do the same, as these S.O.B.s do not deserve anything but our scorn.

Drop your AARP coverage. They are traitors to Senior Citizens.

Once again, AARP has sold you out to get a plush deal from Obama.

ON PAGE 425 OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE BILL, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to undergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. Yes...The Government is going to push SUICIDE to cut Medicare spending!

OBAMA and his minions view Senior Citizens as expendable and a needless burden to our Medicare system. Just listen to the following interview:

Once you read the brief Post you'll completely understand why I have asked for such said attention. Thank You and we'll see you at 9:00 tomorrow morning.

Fundraiser TODAY At Brew River

DEAR DOCTOR: YOU’VE BEEN “DISSED” BY BARACK!

In his big media event the other day, Obama gave an example of how health care cost can be controlled under his plan -- a kid has a sore throat (he then made it multiple sore throat events) and the doctor, solely to make more money than using standard therapy, advises removal of the tonsils. The clear implication is that this is the norm in medicine today, regardless whether the procedure is efficacious or necessary. It reveals Obama’s ignorance not just of medical ethics, but also that docs who normally would see kids with sore throats don’t do tonsils. Or does he think they get kickbacks from those who do?

Anyone who thinks ObamaCare would not destroy the doctor-patient relationship is an IDIOT!

God Bless Alex

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names and small American flags mounted on either side of it. The six-year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, 'Good morning Alex.'

'Good morning Pastor,' he replied, still focused on the plaque. 'Pastor, what is this? '

The pastor said, 'Well son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service.'

Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque.

Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear asked,

'Which service, the 8:30 or the 10:30?'

Something To Think About

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ...

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

A Major Reason Why California Is Bankrupt

Quoted from the L. A. Times

California is hemorrhaging $$$ to support the cost of:

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in Garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal's.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.

(There are 10.2 million people in L. A.. County. )

(All of the 10 aforementioned items are from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare.

Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York ) results from immigration.

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

Americans are a bunch of fools for hiring them and letting this continue. When all the costs are tabulated, Illegal's cost us more than hiring Americans at twice the rate we hire Illegal's at..

Lobbyists The Silver Lining In Health Care Storm?

As lawmakers squabble, health care groups focus on how to get ahead

WASHINGTON - A strong force, perhaps as powerful in Congress as President Barack Obama, is keeping the drive for health care going even as lawmakers seem hopelessly at odds.
Lobbyists.

The drug industry, the American Medical Association, hospital groups and the insurance lobby are all saying Congress must make major changes this year. Television ads paid for by drug companies and insurers continued to emphasize the benefits of a health care overhaul — not the groups' objections to some of the proposals.

Gates Agrees To Beer With Obama, Policeman

Black Harvard scholar ‘happy to oblige’ in peace-making effort

WASHINGTON - A prominent black Harvard University scholar accepted an invitation to have a beer with President Barack Obama and the white police officer who arrested him in a racially charged case.

Professor Henry Louis Gates said Saturday he was willing to have a peace-making beer with Obama and Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley.

Gates was arrested last week at his home after a neighbor called police to say that a man was breaking into the house. Obama said Cambridge police had "acted stupidly," prompting an outcry from police groups and a resulting media blitz.

Robbery Investigation In Rehoboth Nets Two Suspects

Location of Incident: Route 1 and Route 273 in Rehoboth, Delaware, Sussex County

Date of Occurrence: Saturday, July 25, 2009, at approximately 1:00 a.m.

Suspect(s):
Sean-Dre McGee, 15, of Rehoboth, Delaware
Jamal Duncan, 20, of Estate Drive in Rehoboth, Delaware

Resume: At approximately 1:00 a.m. this morning, two Russian females, who are working in Rehoboth for the summer, were walking home along Route 1. They were confronted by two masked males suspects- Sean-Dre McGee and Jamal Duncan.

One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and they both demanded cash. Because of a language barrier, the suspects became frustrated and forcibly took a purse from one of the females. The suspects then fled the scene on foot to a nearby gas station where their get-away car, a Ford Taurus, was parked.

The suspects fled northbound on Route 1, however, their car became disabled in the center median. A Trooper on route patrol, who was unaware of the robbery, stopped to help. He rendered aid and took note to the suspects’ names. He then cleared the scene and went back on patrol.

A short time later, this very same Trooper learned of the robbery and the suspects’ descriptions. He contacted back-up and responded to Sean-Dre’s residence. Here, the officer spoke with the suspect and his guardian. Through this contact with McGee, he was able to successfully link him to the crime.

Next, patrol officers and detectives responded to the home of Jamal Duncan. When they arrived on the scene, they knocked on the door several times announcing themselves. Duncan refused to come out. After about an hour, officers made entry into the home where they took Duncan into custody without further incident.

Both of the suspects were transported back to Troop 7 for processing.

Sean-Dre McGee was formally charged with Robbery, Attempted Robbery, Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony and Conspiracy (all felony charges). He was committed to the Stevenson House in lieu of $34,000.00 secured bond.

Jamal Duncan was charged with the same offenses as McGee and was also charged with Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor).

Bail information for Duncan is not available.

Missing Bird May Be Found: Zoo

By Teresa Masterson, Dan Stamm
NBCPhiladelphia.com

A yellow tropical bird residing at the Philadelphia Zoo flew the coop Wednesday but may have returned early afternoon Friday, said Zoo sources.

Officials at the Zoo did not release how or where they may have found the missing Sun Conure bird. They will not be able to verify that the bird found is the correct one until Friday night, sources said.

Basically they captured a bird that they believed could be the bird but they weren't able to tell for sure as of Friday afternoon, said Zoo officials.

Bay Area Chef Appears On 'Regis & Kelly'

A little history first. Karen & Kevin Howe are Albero family friends going back to the 1950's. I grew up with Karen Cunningham, (now Howe) and quite frankly these are by far some of the kindest people I have ever known. Anyhow, even after all of these years we all stay in touch and enjoy each others company whenever we can break away from our abnormal lives but the reunion is always the best.

Anyhow, Chef Kevin Howe entered a contest with Live with Regis and Kelly and WON yesterday! Congratulations Kevin & Karen and HELLO CUNNINGHAM FAMILY!

Chef Kevin Howe makes a delicious pork tenderloin

SPRING HILL, Fla.
- It's an announcement that has turned this little restaurant in Spring Hill upside down: Chef Kevin Howe of the County Line Cafe and Grill is the winner of this week's "Live with Regis and Kelly's Ultimate Hometown Grill Off."

The news is spreading fast.

"We have people in Ireland that voted for us because they know somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody that called," says restaurant employee Shane Cunningham. "We have customers that call that said, 'Wow we heard about you'."

Chef Howe's winning dish is a mouth-watering sesame, ginger, and lime grilled pork tenderloin.

"It just melts in your mouth. It's just so good," customer Karen Young says. "I had to try it of course but it's just great. It's fantastic. But of course everything Kevin makes is great."

Young is a regular at the cafe. She was one of thousands who voted for Howe during the contest.

"It's been crazy," Cunnigham says. "It's been absolutely nuts. They're reading. They're hearing. It's been remarkable."

A white board thanks customers for the support, while letting everyone know of the chef's T-V debut Friday, when he gets to show off his "skills on the grill" to the nation.

"When Kevin talks about food you can see the passion," Young says. "He loves the job."

While Howe won this week's contest, there is still a national competition that ends on August 16. To help him win, visit liveregisandkelly.com and click on the "Hometown Grill Off" icon to vote.

The winners of the contest will appear in New York and compete against each other for the best dish.

The overall winner will appear in an upcoming issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

Hearts Away Bombs Away Book Signing @ The Globe TODAY

TODAY (7/25) at 5 p.m., the Globe in historic downtown Berlin, Md., will present Vincent Gisriel Jr. as he discusses and signs his book Hearts Away Bombs Away, an epistolary love story that explores the difficulties his father and mother faced being so in love yet so far apart during WWII.

The White Rodney King

One Woman's Opinion

I sent this message to Senators Mikulski, and Cardin and to Congressman Kratovil. I also sent it to a couple newspapers. I am only one voice and more people should be "only one voice" before it is too late and we are unable to speak without retribution.

I can't be silent any more. If it kills me at least I will know I went down fighting.

Before any "government sponsored health insurance" is mandated on the public, I think the Congress and Administration should try using it for one year. Then and only then should they consider requiring the citizens of this nation to use it.

I have tried very hard to accept and support this man the people of this great nation elected to be our President. I have held my breath and promised not to condemn himand the Congress for the bills they have passed without reading and the horrible debt they have placed on my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I kept saying to myself "He is your President, give him and them a chance, maybe they can correct some of the wrong." Now, the time has come for words to be spoken; not just by me but from ALL Americans that care what is happening to us.

The "silent majority" can no longer be silent. The past six months have done more
damage to our nation than a war on our soil could have done. Our so called
representatives in Washington are raping our nation and all of us. If we the people
remain silent, we are just as responsible as those committing the crimes. My husband
and I have worked all our lives to assure the prosperity of this country and to support those that have gone before us. Now, we are seniors and are threatened with losing the benefits we provided for others and earned the right to have. We have never wanted to own or operate any of the automobile manufacturers or the banks or the investment companies this government has taken control of. We, the people, are what makes this country great not an over powering government. We must speak up, take control and stop the carnage taking place in Washington before it completely devours all we have cherished for generations.

Palin Ethics Investigator Closely Tied To Democratic Party

Independent investigator Thomas Daniel has contributed $3,500 in recent years to Democratic causes, including $1,500 to John Kerry's presidential campaign in 2004 and $1,000 to Alaska Sen. Mark Begich's senatorial campaign last year.

The independent investigator who has accused Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin of violating state ethics laws is a major donor to the Democratic Party as well as a partner in a law firm that represented Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

Thomas Daniel was hired by the Alaska Personnel Board in late April to investigate several complaints against Palin, including one filed by an Alaska resident who claims the governor used her official position for personal gain by authorizing the creation of a trust to use as her legal defense fund.

In a July 14 report leaked to The Associated Press and major news organizations, Daniel accused Palin of drawing improper gifts and unwarranted benefits. His report recommended that Palin refuse to accept payment from the defense fund and settle the complaint to avoid a formal hearing before the board.

Palin's supporters say the governor, who will resign on Sunday, needs the legal fund because of a quirk in Alaska law that prevents state officials from defending the state's chief executive against ethics allegations.

"The whole situation is nuts," said John Coale, a prominent Washington attorney who helped set up the legal fund, which so far has accepted $500,000 in donations. "Alaska has an ethics law that is unsustainable."

Coale also accused the personnel board of being "either vicious or idiotic" to hire Daniel, whose law firm is closely tied to the Democratic Party.

Documentary Validates Chemtrails And Weather Warfare

Joe,

I have researched the Chemtrail topic for several years now. Clifford Carnicom has thoroughly documented the phenomenon on his website: www.carnicom.com

Here is a History Channel video on the subject of chemtrails and weather warfare. The Navy has a public policy of wanting to "own the weather by 2025". I believe we are being sprayed almost daily by dangerous chemicals, biological elements, and harmful elements like aluminum and barium. A closely related topic to research is H.A.A.R.P. or High Altitude Auroral Research Project in Anchorage, Alaska. It is the technology bragged about by Exxon Corporation in the commercial which touts their ability to "look into the earth" to find natural gas, oil, etc.

Another Arrest In Prison Contraband Investigation

Emily Trout, 22, of Beaver Dam Road in Lewes, was arrested yesterday on 3 counts Conspiracy 3rd for her part in the Prision Contraband Investigation which was reported this week. For her part, Ms. Trout accepted and cashed checks in exchange for tobacco products which were making their way back into SCI. Ms. Trout is the girlfriend of William Weedon III (also arrested). Upon her arraignment, she was released on a $1,500.00 unsecured bond.

Dangerous Trees In Salisbury

I read your article on Old Growth Tree that fell on a car. You should ride to the intersection of E Gordy rd and Beaglin Park Drive. On the NW corner of the intersection are 2 Oak trees. I presume they are dead being they have no leaves on them. If you look at the trees you will notice they have had a chainsaw cutting on them. One tree has a cut all the way around it. The other does also and has a notch cut in it but they didnt knock the notch out. These 2 trees have been weakend by the cutting and one will probably fall into the intersection when it drops. I dont ride throught the intersection because of that. I dont know if they will fall on their own due to the cuts but the property owner is irresponsible for leaving them that way. The county public works probably cant do a thing about it being it is on private property. I say that but if you have an untagged car on your lot they are quick to put an orange sticker on it and call it a nuisance. Maybe some "publicity" on your site can help bring these 2 hazards to the ground.

Why Cancer Fears Me

PONDER THIS:

A large post office I visited yesterday had three pens on strings for customers to use. Except one was missing and one

was out of ink. So there was a line of people waiting to use the only functioning pen. If the federal government cannot

provide working pens at the post office, can it run the health care system? We may soon find out.

Hoboken Mayor Arrested Just 3 Weeks Into Term

Just 32, he's accused of joining long list of corrupt New Jersey politicians

HOBOKEN, N.J.
- Even in a state where corruption seems institutionalized, the arrest of a neophyte mayor in office a mere three weeks stands out.

Voters might wonder how Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, no grizzled politician but a 32-year-old lawyer with a promising political career, could be accused of taking $25,000 in bribes after watching so many politicians follow the same road to jail.

Authorities said that what he told a government witness wearing a wire — a purported real-estate developer whom Cammarano assured he would treat "like a friend" — not only led to his arrest but also added a new chapter to New Jersey's culture of corruption.

Fatal Crash Investigated Near Laurel

Location of Incident: 28000 block of Seaford Road (aka US13a), approximately 1 mile north of Laurel, Delaware, Sussex County

Date of Occurrence: Friday, July 24th, 2009 at approximately 9:47 p.m.

Resume: The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit in Sussex County is investigating a fatal crash from last night.

Just prior to 10:00 p.m., a 2000 Dodge Dakota pick-up was traveling northbound on Seaford Road, approximately 1 mile north of Laurel, at a high rate of speed. The Dodge proceeded to pass a car ahead, on this two lane road, and lost control when attempting to return to the proper lane.

The Dakota slid sideways for over 250’ before striking a large oak tree on the driver’s side. The impact with the tree, which occurred just off the east edge of the roadway, caused the Dodge to split into two pieces.

The operator, Roderick Conn, 54 years of age of Seaford, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt.

This crash remains under investigation.

The Eastern Shore Iris Society will host its annual Iris Sale on Saturday, July 25th, at Boscov’s at the Centre at Salisbury. The sale will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until 1:00 unless sold out earlier. This is a fabulous opportunity for local gardeners to purchase interesting and hard to find varieties of iris including Siberian, Japanese, Spuria, and tall bearded and miniature tall bearded iris will be among the offerings. Liberal, Conservative Dems Feud Over Health Bill

Colleagues accuse use one another of lying, ‘empowering the Republicans’

WASHINGTON
- House Democrats feuded openly over health care Friday before shaking hands on a deal that guaranteed only that they would keep negotiating, wrapping up a week in which consensus on a sweeping overhaul of the nation's health-care system seemed to diminish by the day.

White House aides announced a week ago that President Obama was ready to "take the baton" for his biggest domestic campaign initiative, and indeed Obama campaigned for his proposals nearly nonstop this week, including taking an hour to make his case directly to the American public on prime-time television.

Despite the president's attentions, Congress was further Friday from passing health-care legislation than it was on Monday, with only days left before lawmakers leave Washington for their August recess.

‘Crime’ Or Self-Defense? Iraq Tries To Arrest GIs

Deadly Baghdad clash underscores rift over interpretation of U.S.-Iraq deal

ABU GHRAIB, Iraq - When insurgents attacked an American convoy with AK-47 rounds and a couple of grenades on a dusty highway in a Baghdad suburb this week, U.S. soldiers returned fire, chased the suspects through narrow alleyways and raided houses.

Tuesday's clash killed two Iraqi adults and a 14-year-old and wounded four people, including two children.

When the shooting subsided, another confrontation began. A senior Iraqi army commander who arrived at the scene concluded that the Americans had fired indiscriminately at civilians and ordered his men to take the U.S. soldiers into custody. The U.S. military said the soldiers had acted in self-defense and had sought to avoid civilian casualties; U.S. commanders at the scene persuaded the Iraqis to back down.

Mandatory Vaccines

Joe,

The possibility of mandatory vaccines is very real. It has been discussed by the World Health Organization, and members of our own government. Vaccines in general, are a very controversial subject matter. Real understanding of the subject requires much research. I think it a good idea to encourage people to give some thought to vaccines now, while there is no "mandate". Once the time comes for the vaccine, it is a little late to give it some thought. How do people feel about vaccines? Are they safe? Are they related to Gulf War Illness? Are they related to Autism? I think the subject could be a very good one for the commenters.

Obama Invites Cop, Professor to White House for Beer

NATICK, Mass. (July 23) -- President Barack Obama concedes his words — that a white police officer "acted stupidly" when he arrested a black university scholar in his own home — were ill-chosen. But, while he invited both men to visit him at the White House, Obama stopped short of publicly apologizing for his remark.

The president personally telephoned the two men, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley, in an effort to end the rancorous back-and-forth over what had transpired and what Obama had said about it. Trying to lighten the situation, he even commiserated with Crowley about reporters on his lawn.
