Urban Salisbury's Plan

Mr. Albero:

After reading the Daily Times article about the Urban Salisbury Downtown Revitalization plan, I am disappointed. I sincerely hope that there is something meatier to this plan that what was published in the paper, but I have yet to see it, and based on the published information, I am flat out confused.

The new plan will create a total of 18 parking spaces – but that simply isn’t enough to really fill a restaurant, concert, or store. There are already parking spaces on the other side of the City Center, and they were not enough to keep the businesses inside afloat. So while parking is a problem, low-impact parking improvements are not going to help. A major revamp of the entire area into either a fully pedestrian shopping center or an area with substantial parking are the only feasible answers.

The Daily Times reports that this plan will create outdoor dining in the City Center area. There are ALREADY not one, not two, but THREE separate, if little-known, outdoor dining areas in that general area. One of them is a lovely garden seating area behind where City Bistro used to be, and back when Legends had that space, it was used for live music and cocktails. Guess what? Both businesses failed, not because there was not enough outside seating, but because there was not enough traffic in general. In addition, unless there is funding for better patrols, increased seating on the plaza may only serve to increase the already high number of homeless who utilize the plaza as a place to rest during the day. While our community needs to embrace the less fortunate and offer such respite, I doubt that increasing these numbers in that area will greatly improve the foot traffic into the stores and businesses along the plaza.

It will build a stage on the government building steps – why? Have the few performers that we have there complained of discomfort? Why not instead expand the Art Institute & Gallery, which long ago outgrew its space, or incorporate the old fire station into a performance venue? Urban Salisbury included plans for creating reflecting pools and a town square – why? We have at least two fountains on the plaza now, and they look terrible and are not properly kept up. And technically, if anyone wants to look, we have benches and trees in front of the old courthouse, across the way from the government buildings – we HAVE a town square. The Daily Times quotes the plan as offering, “A streetscape improvement that would create a unified urban corridor with increased trees and landscaping in some parts; traditional street furnishings, signage, curbing and traffic signaling; and clearly defined and separated vehicular and pedestrian ways.” Seriously? The overflowing trash cans are already there, thanks, there are already street lights, and the sidewalks are clearly demarcated.

I am deeply disappointed in the plan, and do not think it offers much to excite the general public of Salisbury about the downtown area. Something far more drastic and radical needs to happen. In addition, this plan is primarily just a ‘sprucing up’ of what is already there. Surely $5 million is not needed to tidy the neighborhood? I am amazed that given the current budget cuts, that the Council gave Urban Salisbury over $200,000 just to continue development of this obviously futile plan. Urban Salisbury says that the money will have little to no impact on taxpayers – I disagree – that money could be spent on schools, shelters, the local arts organizations, or general infrastructure. Instead, it’s going to pay for Urban Salisbury to remake what is already in place. This is the Emperor’s New Clothes, and it really should stop now.

I am a supporter of Urban Salisbury as an organization, and have met and hold the deepest respect for Urban Salisbury’s director. I am sure that this is what they felt they could realistically accomplish. But frankly, I think they need to provide a plan that is bigger, stronger, and more innovative than this one. I hope that you and the citizens of Salisbury will insist that they go back to the drawing board and use the $200,000+ award to come up with something better. Whatever happens to the downtown area, it needs to be big enough to make the locals feel compelled to go down and take a look. It needs to blow everyone away. It must, absolutely must, provide something to the community that isn’t available anywhere else. They need to pick up the downtown and really shake it up. Otherwise, the money will be wasted and the downtown revitalization will stall once again. I, for one, wonder just how many times the downtown can fail before it crumbles completely.

How's Your Interest Rates Working For You?

I would like to pose a complaint to you and see if you have heard anything about this issue. I have banked with Bank of America for all my life. (well, I should say Maryland National, then it was Nationsbank, and I may have missed one name in there too) But, today I looked at my checking statement, and mind you I don't usually have this much money in there, but my company bonus came in recently so I have upwards of almost $20,000 in there. My checking account is an "Advantage" account that pays interest. My interest with them for last month total was .09 cents. I thought this was odd, because last month was less than half that total amount in the account and my interest was .32 cents. (yes, I know its pennies, but still) The point was, after looking at the interest rate, I saw it was 0.02% now. Since the first of the year it has been 0.05%. (yes, still talking pennies here) But the bigger picture to me is this, after getting billions and billions from the O'bama Mint, this bank is now using my money as well as the governments to cover losses on top of losses. I work hard for every dollar I earn and pay every bill on time. I never carry a balance on any credit card unless I can pay it off with the first bill received. This is the thanks I get from my bank. I also have been notified that several credit card companies are raising APR's over the next several months, arbitrarily, even though my credit score is over 800. My attorney was to have a meeting with Sen. Mikaulski about this, as she is apparently involved with the bills being written in Congress about how credit card companies handle their business. I guess maybe now is the time to invest in gold, but not with a certain local nut job who shall remain nameless, but through a nationally recognized group like Goldline Corp. Inc. (featured on the Glenn Beck website).

Three Years Ago Today

It was three years ago today the Harris Family got to see the two new Otters they put up the funding for the Salisbury Zoo to purchase. Soon after, Jim Rapp was showing an interview from a Baltimore TV Station with Mr. John Harris sitting right in the room while we all watched it and Jim Rapp, (former Zoo Directer) flat out stated the Salisbury Zoo made the donation to purchase the animals and never once mentioned Mr. Harris doing so.

It was yet another kick in the teeth by Jim Rapp and one of the many reasons he's no longer working at the Zoo today. Fortunately for the animals at the Zoo Jim has been replaced by a new Zoo Director Joel Hamilton.

Word on the street is, the Zoo is getting prepared for yet another AZA Inspection in September and everyone is squirming to try and make things nice again at the Zoo. There's also talk about breaking away from North American Animals and they'll be working on a new Australian Exhibit soon. For those of you working there, I still get a lot of information as to what's going on there regularly.

In fact I heard the bear has recently had some sort of surgery which was done at the zoo. During the surgery something was needed that the Zoo didn't have on hand. A Zoo Official had to leave and go to a nearby clinic to get this item.

I also heard the Zoo is expecting Brazilian Ocelots. Something about, they haven't arrived because of the Brazilian Government holding them up.

Anyhow, anything is an improvement over Jim Rapp and the drinking buddies he hired while he was Director. Joel is a breath of fresh air. To Mr. & Mrs. Harris, THANK YOU! Some of us have not forgotten your unconditional and kind donation. You've brought a lot of joy to those visiting the Salisbury Zoo. The Otters happen to be my favorites there.

Two Years Ago Today

It was two years ago today the States Attorney's Office was desperately trying to get a joint ordinance with the City to battle Graffiti Policies between the City and the County.

For some reason the former Mayor refused to work with the County, (could have been Chief Webster) and the issue is still not resolved to date. I did bring this up with Mayor Ireton last week at the Camden Association Meeting where Tom Stevenson was also present. Hopefully now with a new Administration they can finally work together towards this goal as Graffiti still causes quite a bit of a problem throughout the City.

The Emergence Of President Obama's Muslim Roots

ABC News' Jake Tapper and Sunlen Miller report: The other day we heard a comment from a White House aide that never would have been uttered during the primaries or general election campaign.

During a conference call in preparation for President Obama's trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said "the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to -- or before he's been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world -- you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father -- obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago."

Given widespread unease and prejudice against Muslims among Americans, especially in the wake of 9/11, the Obama campaign was perhaps understandably very sensitive during the primaries and general election to downplay the candidate's Muslim roots.

Twenty-Third Annual Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Delaware

Statewide- The 23rd ANNUAL STATEWIDE LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN involving over 500 Law Enforcement Officers and spanning 161 miles will be held between Wednesday, June 10 and Friday, June 12.

Special Olympics Delaware provides a year-round program of quality sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. A family of over 4,000 volunteers makes this program possible for the more than 3,000 athletes who compete in Special Olympics Delaware.

“We build sports skills, confidence, strength, motivation and self-esteem ... not just for the athletes, but for everyone involved,” says Ann Grunert, executive director of Special Olympics Delaware.

This year’s Torch Run will be a three-day event, starting in Rehoboth Beach on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. The First State Band will lead the gala Torch Run sendoff from the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.

New this year, the general public can participate in the Run with the Flame, a 2-mile run accompanying the torch as it leaves Rehoboth Beach.

On Thursday, June 11, the Torch will start at Lewes, Georgetown and Delmar, and will travel to Milford, Harrington, Dover, Smyrna and Odessa. The event continues on Friday, June 12, from Troop 9, with the Torch proceeding to the Wilmington Police Headquarters in Wilmington for a 1:20 p.m. celebration and then on to Newark for a 4:15 p.m. celebration at the Newark Municipal Building.

The event culminates with a final leg into the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center for the official opening of the 2009 Summer Games, where the Special Olympics’ Flame of Hope will be delivered

Million Dollar Question: "Whose Problem Is It?"

Besides last night's accident involving a Salisbury Fire Truck there was yet another trying issue at hand. Engine 210 was taken out of service until further notice due to the accident.

During the heavy storm several stop lights went out which is not an unusual thing. However, the stop lights at both the Parsons Rd., Nanticoke Rd. and the Parsons Rd., Pemberton Dr. intersections both went out. A Salisbury Police officer arrived at the Pemberton location to assist with traffic because it was a city problem. A Wicomico County Sheriff's deputy arrived at the Nanticoke location and radioed in saying that it was a state problem, but he would remain on scene and assist with traffic until someone else showed up (which is nice of him, I thought).

Dispatch called the deputy back shortly thereafter and advised him that state denied responsibility of the lights and to call city. Well, city denied responsibility and said that it belonged to state. Wicomico made another call to state just to verify and they ADAMANTLY stated that it was not their responsibility. The deputy asked dispatch if they could ask the city police officer if they could block traffic from coming down that short stretch of road until they figured out the situation and the deputy would block traffic for him.

Apparently the state had contacted city and got into a shouting match with them because city REFUSED to assist county in any way!!! So who's problem is it and why can't we all just get along???

WASHINGTON – Is that "birth certificate" of Barack Obama's worth the paper it is written on?

That's the question raised by a new campaign offering toilet paper rolls imprinted with the "certification of live birth" posted on the Internet by Barack Obama's presidential campaign last fall.

The effort is donating a portion of the proceeds from the campaign to WND's national billboard campaign that asks the simple question, "Where's the birth certificate?"

Yesterday, the campaign received a boost when WND's White House correspondent, Les Kinsolving, asked Obama's press secretary, Robert Gibbs, why the president would not release his actual long-form birth certificate to the public and put to rest dozens of lawsuits and questions from hundreds of thousands of Americans concerned about his constitutional eligibility to serve.

Kinsolving specifically made reference to a WND petition signed by nearly 400,000 people calling for full disclosure.

"Are you looking for the president's birth certificate?" he asked incredulously. "Lester, this question in many ways continues to astound me. The state of Hawaii provided a copy with the seal of the president's birth. I know there are apparently at least 400,000 people – (laughter) – that continue to doubt the existence of and the certification by the state of Hawaii of the president's birth there, but it's on the Internet because we put it on the Internet for each of those 400,000 to download. I certainly hope by the fourth year of our administration that we'll have dealt with this burgeoning birth controversy."

Teacher Arrested For Sexual Extortion And Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd

Location of Incident: Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriot’s Way, Millsboro, Sussex County

Date of Arrest: Wednesday June 3, 2009

Defendant: John George Rainis, 24, 34704 Villa Circle, Lewes, DE

State Police have arrested an Indian River School District Teacher for Sexual Extortion and Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd. Troopers took Rainis into custody today at Sussex Central High School where he is an athletic trainer and a full time substitute teacher.

State police began questioning a female student after rumors surfaced that an inappropriate relationship occurred between the two. Troopers learned that while the female student was receiving treatment for an athletic injury, Rainis allegedly touched the victim inappropriately. When the victim attempted to stop his advances Rainis reminded her that he was the only one who could clear her to participate in her sport. State police believe the inappropriate behavior occurred several times in the training room at the high school during the month of March 2009.

State police executed a search warrant at the high school and at Rainis’ home in Lewes and removed electronic devices for forensic examination. The examination will be conducted by the State Police High Technology Crimes Unit.

Rainis was charged with 1 count of Sexual Extortion and 1 count of Unlawful Sexual Contact 3rd. Rainis was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #2 in Lewes and was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $7,000 cash bail.

Run, Jump & Throw At The Hershey’s Track & Field Games

Just wanted to share a picture I took using my cell phone, that's why its blurry, but its from the WCBOE awards last night, I take pride in the picture because it's my son the 6th grade 1st place winner for the 24 game, Malik Sims and Jim Ireton.

Malik was so excited to see Mr. Ireton not as a teacher now but as a Mayor. Malik attended East Salisbury Elementary and remembers Mayor Ireton as a fun, loving always lending a smile to anyone kind of teacher, so he felt honored to be standing next to Mr. Ireton now MAYOR JIM IRETON.

As you can see in the picture some things never change, Mayor Ireton still has that fun smile, Kudos to Mayor Jim Ireton.

Salisbury Police Department Press Release

On June 1, 2009 at approximately 12:10 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department were on routine patrol in the area of Records Street and observed the below listed suspect acting in a suspicious manner. The officers made contact with the suspect and a routine records check revealed that the suspect was currently wanted on an outstanding District Court Bench Warrant. The suspect was placed under arrest and a search of the suspect’s person, incident to arrest, revealed a quantity of suspected “crack”/cocaine. Milford -- The Department of Transportation announces that George & Lynch Inc. will be rehabilitating eight roadways throughout Sussex County. The project consists of hot-mix patching.

An Ambulance or a Fire Truck was just in an accident on Rt. 13 & Gordy Road. They were on their way to a shed fire and we've come to learn it was a property damage accident, no one was hurt.

In weather conditions like this, it's better to get there alive guys than it is to get there fast, especially over a shed fire. Glad to hear every one is OK.

Brandywine Hundred Man Arrested For Possessing Child Pornography

Location of Incident: 1228 Faun Road, Wilmington, New Castle County

Date and Time of Occurrence: June 3, 2009

Suspect(s): William J. Levering, 29.

On June 3, 2009, members of the Child Predator Task Force, detectives from State Police Troop 2 and uniformed troopers executed a search warrant at 1228 Faun Road, Wilmington, DE. The search warrant was as a result of an on-going investigation into the on-line distribution of child pornography videos and images. The search warrant was executed and two desktop computers, three laptop computers as well as cell phones, digital cameras and other digital evidence were seized.
Investigators located four people at the residence and all we were interviewed at Troop 1. Forensic previews resulted in the discovery of child pornography images on one of the laptop computers. A suspect was identified as a result of the investigation.

Based on information developed William J. Levering was arrested and charged with 28 counts of unlawfully using a computer to depict children engaged in prohibited sex acts. Levering was ordered held on $280,000.00 secured bail. He was turned over to the Department of Correction in default of bail.

City Of Salisbury Shooting This Morning THE ORIGINAL POST

A home invader broke into a home on the 700 Block of Baker Street in Salisbury at 4:00 AM this morning. The residents awoke to a gunman standing over top of them while in bed demanding money and any other items they had.

He had already been in one bedroom and tried to rob one of the other room mates upstairs. He said if they didn't give up money he would shoot the baby. The following is the balance of what happened after the gunman shot the Father of the Baby.

SPD has a suspect that Allie ID’d along with her roommates and maybe some others. They are waiting to release the photo to the media until John Duvall wakes up from surgery to ID the mug shot. This is obviously not the first go ‘round for the shooter.

After about 4+ hours of surgery, the team replaced about 2 inches of artery and got the blood flowing again to the arm, but the tendons and other tissue blown apart will have to wait for subsequent surgeries to reconnect all the stuff. The doctor said that he would probably have a “useful” hand again in 2-3 years down the road.

Allie said the shooter was trying to shoot the baby but John lunged into it getting hit in the shoulder of the arm that was holding the infant(3 months). The shooter kept pulling the trigger clicking the gun at all three of them, but the gun was either empty or misfiring. He took a laptop and a cellphone and kept demanding money, drugs, cellphones, “whatever you got”. He then left from the upstairs bedroom and downstairs. After waiting for him to leave, Allie roused 2 roomies and got them to call 911.

They just woke up around 5 this morning to the home invader standing over them at the bed when he started his demands. He had already been to another bedroom and tried to rob the first roomer.

Man Shot in Salisbury Home Invasion-Robbery

SALISBURY, Md.- Police are looking for a suspect wanted for shooting a man in the chest during a Wednesday morning home invasion-robbery in Salisbury.

Salisbury police say that at around 4:46 a.m. officers responded to a on the (700 block of Baker Street for the report of a home invasion-robbery. Upon arrival the officers observed that a victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper left chest. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Michael Duvall of Salisbury, was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.

Witnesses told Salisbury police detectives that a lone suspect had entered the rear of the home and confronted the victim. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot that struck the victim. The suspect then took several items from the home and ran out of the home.

Police described the suspect as a black male, 20-25 years of age, 6-foot-1, thin build, wearing a black pullover style hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

Salisbury Shooting Post Removed

Dear Readers:

This afternoon I put up a post, (more like a Letter to the Editor) about a shooting in the City of Salisbury early this morning.

As you can see above, Chiefy Webster called me in reference to this Post and demanded I remove it. I asked him to explain to me why he wanted it removed and he stated it doesn't matter why, just remove the Post. I responded with, you'll have to do better than that Al. He said I'm impeding on an investigation and jeopordizing the life of one of his Officers. That's when the RED FLAG went up.

There was absolutely NO MENTION of an Officer in the Post, therefore there was no way I was doing anything wrong. The fact that the Father sent me a letter telling me what had happened was not impeding with ANY investigation and again, IMHO, the minute the word hit the street it became NEWS!

I politely asked Al to talk nice and I'd be willing to work with him all day long. However, I need to know why you're demanding I pull the Post when there's no mention of an Officer's name. He stated he didn't have to tell me anything other than to take it down.

Now, I just want to make this VERY clear to everyone. I removed the Post moments ago but I only did so after a conversation with States Attorney Davis Ruark. Even after I explained I had done nothing wrong, I asked him to contact Al and ask him to return his call once again so we can talk on an even level where I wasn't being treated like a servant to his Master.

You see Folks, what Chief Webster just can't get into his head is the fact that I have the right to my freedom of speech. I do NOT have to call Chief Webster every time I write a story and or produce a Letter to the Editor. If he wants to explain to me WHY he'd like it removed, again, I'd be happy to work with him.

So for now I've removed the Post at the request of Davis Ruark, NOT Chief Webster. I can assure you, there was absolutely NOTHING, no names, NOTHING in reference to ANY Police Officer, I wouldn't do something like that. IF Chief Webster does not return the call, the Post is going back up.

I want to make something very clear to everyone reading this Post, including Chief Webster. There is absolutely NO REASON the two of us cannot work together. I think it's VERY clear, I'm NOT going anywhere. If Webster would like to create a working relationship where we can get along, even after he sued me, I'm all about it. I want to do the very best I can to work with the SPD and especially the Officers within.

If Chief Webster can't swallow just a little bit of pride, (LIKE I'M DOING RIGHT NOW) then we're just going to have to continue going head to head for what I feel is a childish and stupid power struggle that isn't necessary.

The Post is removed and with any hope we can work TOGETHER to make things better for all. The ball is now in his court.

INCIDENT: Armed Robbery DATE: 06-02-2009 LOCATION: Countryside Market, 27000 block of Nanticoke Road, Salisbury, Maryland NARRATIVE: On June 2, 2009 at approximately 2200 hours, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and the Wicomico Bureau of Investigations responded to the Countryside Market on Nanticoke Road for a reported armed robbery. Two armed suspects entered the Countryside Market and demanded the clerk to open the cash register. Both suspects were able to obtain an undetermined amount of US currency during the robbery. The store clerk was unharmed.

Ethics Board Walks Away With Answers

The Ethics Board walks out of today's meeting with an answer but refuses to reveal it to anyone.



As I'm sure GA Harrison will put up a Post some time later today in reference to today's Ethics Board Meeting, it seemed very clear to me the charges were flat out frivolous. The Fat Man wasn't even man enough to show up for the meeting. Then again, ever since Salisbury News started asking people to take pictures of the Fat Man at ANY meeting he attends and send those photos off to the Disability Office, he has yet to surface to any meeting, hence his hiding his ugly mug behind a XXXXL mask.



Nevertheless, the meeting was a joke. Paul Wilber should be ashamed of himself for ever allowing it to move forward. I'm confident the Board will deliver a vote of finding Terry Cohen clean of any wrong doing. We'll have more details later......

Home Invasion

Location of Incident: Benson Road, Lincoln, Sussex County

Date and Time of Occurrence: Wednesday June 3, 2009 between 0430 hours and 0530 hours

Suspect(s): Three black male suspects dressed in dark clothing. Two of the males were described as 5’06” to 5’08” in height and the third male was describe as being over 6’ tall.

Resume:

Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred in Lincoln, Sussex County.

At approximately 0430 this morning a 36 year-old male resident was getting ready for work when he heard knocking and shouting outside the front door of his home. When the victim went to investigate, three suspects all dressed in black, entered the home brandishing weapons. The trio forced the 36 year-old and his cousin, who is 43, to the ground. The two were handcuffed and assaulted by one of the suspects. A 21 year-old female, who is the girlfriend of the younger victim, was forced to sit in a chair with her 1 year-old baby while they ransacked the home. Prior to the suspects leaving they tied the female’s hands behind her back.

The female was able to free a hand a call a neighbor who found the victims in the home.

The suspects fled with an unknown amount of currency.

The two male victims were treated by Sussex County Paramedics for contusions but refused to go to the hospital. The baby and the female victim, who was pregnant, were not injured.

WCBOE Policy On Children With Head Lice

It was to my dismay when I received a phone call to pick my child up from school due to head lice. I cringed wondering how this could happen. I proceeded to pick my child up and went through hours of regimented shampooing and de-lousing of child and home that very day, all day. I decided to call the school nurse to find out when to bring my child back to school and that is when I found out exactly how this could happen! I was told by the nurse that it is WCBOE policy that as long as a child did not have any live lice they could come back to school. I asked what does that mean and to my astonishment she told me as long as no live lice are present the child would be allowed back in school even with “NITS STILL PRESENT IN THEIR HAIR”. Well hello but nits are eggs and lice can and will hatch and re-infest. I just wanted to inform all of the parents that went through this hell how and why it happened.

OCPD MOURNS THE LOSS OF RETIRED POLICE SGT

The Ocean City Police Department is mourning the loss of a retired police sergeant, Ronald Haslam.

Sergeant Haslam was a dedicated member of the Ocean City Police Department for 28 years and was respected by his co-workers and his community.

His enthusiasm for law enforcement lead him to serve in all four divisions with in the Ocean City Police Department, including the Patro, Services, Administrative and Criminal Investigation Divisions. He led the department’s mounted patrol unit and was known throughout the community for his professionalism, kindness and courtesy.

Sergeant Haslam’s many accomplishments included his nomination for “Investigator of the Year” in 1988. In addition, he was the recipient of a Town of Ocean City proclamation by former Ocean City Mayor Roland Powell for his heroic efforts at a building fire. Throughout his career, Sergeant Haslam received three Unit Citations for his work on a homicide investigation, leadership of his shift in 1988 and outstanding work in the Narcotics Services Section.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of his career was the numerous letters of commendation that he received from the public regarding his assistance, expertise, kindness and dedication.

Sgt Haslam will be remembered for his devotion to public safety and his service to the country while serving in the United States Air Force during Vietnam War. The respect and admiration for Sergeant Haslam is not now, nor ever will be, forgotten by the Ocean City Police

Department and by many citizens, employees and visitors of the Town of Ocean City.

Two Ocean City Men Arrested On CDS Distribution Charges

On Saturday, May 30, 2009 at approximately 6:02 p.m., the Ocean City Police
Department’s Narcotics Unit concluded a two month Controlled Dangerous
Substance (CDS) Distribution investigation with the arrest of Mark Steven Erbe, 50, and Christopher Lee Fraites, 49, both from Ocean City, MD.

On two separate occasions an undercover Ocean City narcotics detective was able
to purchase powder cocaine from Erbe. Preliminary field tests conducted by
investigators indicated the suspected cocaine was a fake substance portrayed to be
powder cocaine. Approximately 6 grams of a counterfeit substance portrayed to be
cocaine was seized during the investigation.

Erbe was charged with two counts of distributing a counterfeit controlled dangerous
substance and possession of a non-controlled substance reasonably believed to be a
controlled dangerous substance. Erbe was seen by and Ocean City District Court
Commissioner and held on a $50,000 bond.

Christopher Lee Fraites was charged with conspiracy to distribute a counterfeit
controlled dangerous substance and possession of a non-controlled substance
reasonably believed to be a controlled dangerous substance. Fraites was also seen
by an Ocean City District Court Commissioner and held on a $25,000 bond.
Both Erbe and Fraites have been transferred to the Worcester County Jail.

7. Your main goal is to survive!
8. Don't resist and fight with the assailant unless it is evident that your
life is in danger.
9. Remember--your valuables can be replaced, - your life can't.

Report any suspicious persons immediately to the police. If possible, use a
cellular phone to call 911 while maintaining visual observation of the
subject(s).

How about we start with your thoughts on the Ethics Board Meeting today at 10:00 at the Salisbury Fire Department against Debbie Campbell & Terry Cohen. I'll start by saying, why wasn't Shanie Shields brought into the picture. After all, she was carrying two health insurance policies and flat out screwing the City of Salisbury Taxpayers out of close to $10,000.00 a year. When will a Citizen of Salisbury file a complaint against Shanie?

My feeling are, this is clearly an attempt to bash Terry & Debbie, since the Fat Man didn't include Shanie into a clear violation and Barrie, Gary, Shanie, Louise and others are more than likely behind the entire thing.

Wicomice County Internal Auditor Fired

Ladies & Gentlemen, this is a complete shock. The audits that had been posted on the Wicomico County Website, (3 of them) have been removed and quite frankly there's something very fishy going on.

Council President John Cannon had "no comment." I'm certain we'll have more on this issue some time soon.

I've had this information since 5:00 PM on Tuesday but felt it was best to hold it off until this morning as it would get the best attention.

The “MML” website has a blurb on the nominees for its new slate of officers and directors that will be elected in a few weeks. Comegys – currently the director for the four “lower shore” counties (District 1) -- is listed as the sole nominee for the position “First Vice President,” which in the normal course of events at the end of the term of that office will result in his election as the MML’s president next year (so he will hold that office when he runs for reelection to the City Council in 2011.

As Barack Obama prepares to give his long-anticipated major address to the Islamic world from Cairo, as a public service I here offer the speech he should give:

Dear friends,

I have said that in this speech I would offer my personal commitment to engagement with the Islamic world, based upon mutual interests and mutual respect. Establishing peace between the forces of the global jihad and America and her ally Israel is something that I would very much love to do. The first thing I must acknowledge, however, is that much as I would love to see this peace dawning over the world, it is not within my power to achieve this.

That may surprise many of you. You have grown accustomed to thinking that the tensions between Muslims and the United States - tensions that boiled over on September 11, 2001 and on the occasions of many other acts of jihad terrorism as well - are entirely the fault of the United States. Americans have been told that we are hated because of our support for Israel, and because of our attempts to bring freedom and stability to the overwhelmingly Muslim people of Iraq and Afghanistan. We are hated because we have spent American treasure to try to secure a better life for Muslims the world over, spending billions of dollars in aid for Egypt, Pakistan, and other Muslim countries.

I must speak honestly with you. It puzzles and pains Americans to see ourselves vilified and hated for trying to help others. Now, unlike the Islamic Republic of Iran and other Islamic entities, we seek no apologies, no restitution. We do not ask for a word of thanks for our numerous attempts to help Muslim societies become safe, prosperous places to live for all their citizens. We do not ask for your approval. But at this point we are going to cease efforts to build bridges of understanding with the Islamic world that have turned out to be fruitless, and even self-defeating.

We have showered billions on Pakistan to enable the Pakistani government to fight the Islamic jihadists, only to see a great deal of that money being funneled to those same jihadists, who are now stronger than ever.

We have tried to establish democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan, only to see non-Muslim minorities treated worse than ever, such that they have been streaming out of Iraq in unprecedented numbers, while the few that remain in Afghanistan are subject to increasingly violent persecution.

We have brokered peace treaty after peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians - from Camp David to Oslo to the Road Map for Peace - only to see the Palestinian side again and again trample upon its commitments to recognize and respect Israel's basic right to exist.

I have offered you America's outstretched hand. In doing so I have followed a path blazed by my predecessors. But that gesture of conciliation has never been reciprocated. And so now, even as my good will is still extended to you, I must act more realistically.

Pakistan and other Muslim countries will not receive another penny of American aid unless and until they demonstrate - in a transparent and inspectable fashion - that they are working against, not abetting, the forces of the global jihad. This will include instituting comprehensive nationwide programs to teach against the jihad doctrine of Islamic supremacism, teaching that Muslims and non-Muslims must live together as equal citizens on an indefinite basis, without any attempts by Muslims to subjugate non-Muslims as inferiors under the rule of Islamic law.

I trust you will understand that we cannot continue to fund the cutting of our own throat.

Afghanistan and Iraq must immediately guarantee the equality of rights of women and non-Muslims, or American arms will no longer devote themselves to keeping regimes in power that do not guarantee those rights.

I will call upon Israel to make no further territorial concessions. The withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 demonstrated only that such concessions whet, rather than sate, the appetites of Islamic jihadists for more concessions. The assumption that territorial concessions will bring peace ignores not only recent history, but also the stated goal of the jihadist movements arrayed against Israel: the destruction of the Jewish state.

That state is an American ally - a more reliable one than any Islamic state has ever been. And we will do whatever is necessary to preserve and defend that ally.

Our hand is outstretched, but we are not unrealistic about the nature of the world. The animus between us is as much, if not more, the result of the doctrines of jihad and Islamic supremacism as it is a result of American policy. I am telling you today that we understand this, and will be acting accordingly. Ultimately a policy based on realism will be much better for both of us than policies based on the fantasies and half-truths that have hitherto prevailed.

WD-40

Before you read to the end, does anybody know what the main ingredient of WD-40 is? Don't lie and don't cheat. WD-40. Who knew? I had a neighbor who had bought a new pickup. I got up very early one Sunday morning and saw that someone had spray painted red all around the sides of this beige truck (for some unknown reason). I went over, woke him up, and told him the bad news. He was very upset and was trying to figure out what to do probably nothing until Monday morning, since nothing was open. Another neighbor came out and told him to get his W D-40 and clean it off. It removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm his paint job that was on the truck. I'm impressed!

WD-40 who knew? 'Water Displacement #40' The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts.. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a 'water displacement' compound.. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40. The Convair Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts.

Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you. When you read the 'shower door' part, try it. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It's a miracle! Then try it on your stove top ... Viola! It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.

41. WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.

Wicomico Recreation, Parks and Tourism Offers Free Fishing Derby this Weekend

(Salisbury, MD) Cast your rod at Salisbury City Park Saturday, June 6 during Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism’s Annual Fishing Derby. The Annual Fishing Derby is a free event, open to children 15 and under.

Registration will begin at 8:30am (advanced registration is not necessary), and fishing starts promptly at 9:00am. Each child must bring their own rod and bait. Several catch and release contests are planned. Prizes and trophies will be awarded for the biggest fish, most fish caught, youngest angler, most unusual catch and more. As an added component, children participating may qualify for a unique category and win a guided fishing trip sponsored by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Last year 12 children throughout the state won trips donated by Maryland charter boat captains, which are currently being scheduled and will take place throughout the summer. In preparation for the Derby, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will help stock the pond at Salisbury City Park. Approximately 500 Blue Gills will join the pond’s current inhabitants including Catfish, Large-Mouth Bass, Perch and Carp.

The Annual Fishing Derby is brought to you by Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism in partnership with the East Side Salvation Army and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The Family Center at East Salisbury School will host its 12th Annual Summer Enrichment Program beginning on Monday, June 22, 2009 thru Friday, August 7, 2009. The program runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Bus service is provided for students however is available on a first-come first-served basis. The summer program will consist of math, reading, science, computer technology, field trips, crafts, guest speakers and much more. The program is open to children between the ages 4-11 who live in the East Salisbury/Beaver Run School districts. Tuition is $90 a week per
