How Would You Fix the Economy?

OF ALL THE THINGS I HAVE LOST I MISS MY "MIND" THE MOST

This is from an article in the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President:
Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the
money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the
Following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto
Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis
fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their
constituents pay their taxes...

Worth Repeating!

Isn't it obvious that our government in uninterested in helping or serving the People? This suggestion would actually work! Look at the amount of money these pigs are stealing from us, and giving it to their corporate buddies. Give us back our money and stop stealing it.

This reminds me of when Steve Forbes tried running for President about 10 years ago.....one of his proposals was to replace the mega-paged Tax Code manual with a form about 5 x 7 for EVERYONE - including businesses - to fill out for taxes. 10% for everyone - no exceptions. More money would come in than ever and everyone would pay less than they are now (except the loophole-helped millionaires). Alas, it fell on deaf ears such as this proposal will because it is too simple and NO ONE can make money off it and isn't that what American is about? making money and being greedy as hell?

This crap wouldn't work. The first thing those old bittys will do is throw it in the bank, and not spend a dime. Then uncle sam would take oh just about half of it for taxes anyway...Then the state..Then the local government. By the time everyone got their piece of the american pie...There wouldn't be a slice yet. The government is doing what it can do. As usual the politics of washington are causing the problems. How naive people must be to believe that things happen over night, it didn't take a few months to get into this mess and it isn't going to take a few months to get out. If in two to three years things still haven't gotten any better then Bitch and Moan, but until then stop the whinning please.

The only problem with that is the math. 40 million times one million equals 40 TRILLION. Even Obama can't spend that much... Well, wait a minute, maybe he can.

8:45 You're exactly right. Americans passing this "brilliant" plan along can't do simple math. Most think if you give one-million dollars to 40 million people the amount would equal $40 million dollars. As you wrote, the amount would be $40 trillion. This country is going to choke when it's time to pay the $9 trillion deficit it's looking at now. $40 trillion? This plan was probably thought up by someone unable to balance their checking account each month.

Um, that is way off! That would only work if you gave 1 million dollars to 40 people. Thats 40 million. umm you better come up with a better idea than that. For anyone who isn't stupid would catch this. So who ever posted that,,PROBLEM NOT SOLVED! Joe, thank you for the laugh though. America is getting more dumber.
