Pocomoke City Council Minutes As Sanitized by King Blake & Published On Website ... All Is Well In P-City Where Crack is Cheap & The Girls are Pretty

Talk about a load of crap coming from Pocomoke City Hall in the form of it's "minutes" from the March 10th 2008 City Council Meeting. They left out the part where X-Councilman Cane used the 'N' Word but its on the tape, if they did not lose that like they lost Russ Blakes self dealing employment contract. These minutes will back up my two word summary of the Pocomoke City Government: Openly Corrupt.

Comments from Audience:
Stephanie Burke stated that she and her husband are the owners of a local blog site She commended Councilman Cane for his participation in getting many political changes in Worcester
County. But she suggested that Councilman Cane was not living in his district and therefore he should step down from his seat.

Councilman Cane asked who said that he doesn’t live in his district.

Ms. Burke stated that everybody tells me (she really said everyone knows) that you don’t live in your district and you know that I take pictures of you.

Councilman Cane stated that it was not any of Ms. Burke’s concern.

Ms. Burke stated that it was her concern, as she is a tax-paying citizen, and paying his medical insurance and part of his salary.

Councilman Cane stated that she was not paying her own medical bills. (The city confirms in writing that its unqualified X-Councilman is bringing up personal unrelated medical issues to a private citizen questioning his qualification to retain his city council seat after moving outside his district and he slams back about her medical bills, what a peice of ****)

Mayor McDermott stated that Councilman Cane had addressed that issue at last month’s meeting and he satisfied the Council. Mayor McDermott asked Councilman Cane if anything had changed since last month’s meeting.

Councilman Cane stated that nothing had changed, and he was taking his laundry today to his wife.

In a response to a comment about crime rates and the City’s Police Department, Mayor McDermott stated that the City does work well with other police agencies and they call them when needed. (But the city does not have an open air drug market 2-blocks from his house.. what a line of sh*t)

Billy Burke, stated he was the publisher of a local blog, which is not a news source but one angry man. (They did get that right) At 1:44 this afternoon when he went by Mr. Cane’s house, he took pictures of the cars and tags, and that is just one issue. He received a letter last August by certified mail asking him to remove his car; hence, the reason he takes pictures of Mr. Cane’s cars. (Uhm Canes untagged car is still in his driveway so much for equal enforcement of Boss Hogg's laws)

Mr. Burke stated that the Police Department told him that a cover was not adequate.

Mr. Burke continued to say that County Commissioner Bobby Cowger put on our web site a call for help to fix a Pocomoke problem of crime in the City, and City Councilman Rob Clarke had added that the City needs to call in the FBI, State and the Marines for the crime problems.

Mr. Burke said that it shows that the City Manager and the Chief of Police are not doing their respective jobs. That reflects back on the City Council, as you are not doing your job by managing the City Manager and managing the Police Department and enforcing the laws.

Councilman Morrison stated that he had been campaigning in black and white neighborhoods in the last 30 days and the residents at every house that he knocked on thanked him for the job the Police Department was doing. The crime rate is down in Pocomoke City since the cameras have been installed.

Councilman Morrison stated that he did not feel that our City was in that bad of shape with respect to the crime rate.

Councilman Clarke stated that the last series of crimes that we had were not within the City Limits. Councilman Clarke stated that is what he was saying. (WTF ??? Who writes the minutes again???) That all police agencies needed to cooperate fully with each other to get the job done. People should not be pointing fingers at each other. (Not what he said here before Russ Blake reminded them privately about the goat girl pictures)

Mayor McDermott stated that this City does work well with other agencies. (In contrast to his many comments they are crooked, incompetent, work alone, clowns, bufoons & more, before being elected and initiated into Boss Hoggs inner circle) Many comments on the internet are ignorant of the facts. The Police Department has done more to control crime in the past three years than in many previous years. A Pocomoke officer has been assigned to the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation and has helped solve several serious crimes. We are working well with the task force and with federal, state and county agencies.

Our streets are safer than ever. (on the heels of two murders) We have purchased equipment costing over $100,000 to fight crime. (The dealers now know where the cops are) Crime is down 20%. There is a lot of disinformation being distributed which is over the top. (Like these Russ Blake sanitized minutes?) He added that he was speaking with authority, due to his position with the W.C.B.I.

We are doing the right things for the right reasons. (Save the bullsh*t for the fans not the players)

Councilman Hawkins asked when the rest of the fire hydrants would be painted. He would like to see them start on Market Street . (Bob you awake?)

The Mayor just went in front of the County Commissioners to ask for $500,000.00 so the city can purchase more 'industrial property' to develop and give away to Russ Blakes, Boss Hogg Cronies and their bogus front companies but thats for another article. What a total crock of sh*t from our community leaders.... they prepared & printed it not me...

O’Malley’s Budget - The Spending Spree Continues

In the final days of the regular Session, the General Assembly passed a $31.2 billion budget, which represents more than 4% in new spending over the previous year’s budget. The Senate voted 38-7 and the House of Delegates voted 109-31 in favor of the budget.

Dr. Jim Pelura, Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party, released the following statement:

“This 2008 Legislative Session represents a continuation of the assault on the citizens of Maryland by Martin O’Malley and his supporters in the General Assembly. We must not forget that this budget has, as its foundation, the massive tax increases of the Special Session from November 2007. Marylanders from all walks of life are feeling the harmful effects of these taxes and, with the passage of this budget, will continue to be repressed by them.

“Our economy cannot withstand this assault. Jobs will be lost, businesses will relocate, and dollars to the Maryland treasury will dwindle. To think that the Maryland government can tax itself into prosperity is foolhardy and delusional.

“This Session not only resulted in a greater government grab of the hard-earned money of Marylanders, but also brought a significant increase in the size of the Maryland State bureaucracy. It is just as true today as it was during the Special Session: Maryland government does not have a revenue problem; it has a spending problem.

“The Maryland Republican Party believes in and will continue to promote the idea that low taxes, smaller government, and a robust private sector will ultimately result in more jobs and greater prosperity and freedoms for all our citizens.”

There is a rumor on the street Wicomico County Schools are in lock down over a shooting. I was just told there was an alleged shooting in Hebron. More to come.....

Apparently it happened ACROSS the street from the west side intermediate school and there is a confirmed fatality. Allegedly it was some kind of domestic dispute. They were searching for a 19 year old male in a burgundy trail blazer. Its been reported now that he has been caught in Sharptown. More to come...

I am on the scene where Major Greg Shipley is on his way from the Maryland State Police. I had heard the victim died allegedly from a single gun shot to the head.

UPDATE: I'm told he is now 18 years old, light skin black male. The lock down at the School has been lifted.

OK, it's now 1:30 PM and we just did an interview with the State Police. At 10:15 911 received an emergency call to 104 Old RR Road. Upon arrival they found one male deceased from a single gun shot wound.

The suspect is not believed to be in the area any longer so they took the School out of lock down after they did a thorough search. The suspect again is still on the loose and the vehicle description is still the same.

I was told the victim lived at the home on and off and they still have not positively identified him. It's a waiting game from here on out.

Interpretation of a Grapevine Post Today

From Daily Times Grapevine, April 9 2008 -

"Where Roy Dyson lived years ago is immaterial; this is now. The Shore has grown since then. Andy Harris can't give the Shore what it needs; he only sees the western shore. And that's not a Kratovil spin; it's Republican."

Yes, the Shore has grown but one thing still is the same, the Shore is still predominately Republican/Conservative. Just look at the history of the election voting trends. They have all been for Republican candidates for major elected positions; i.e. President, Governor, 1st Congressional District. Even the General Assembly Members are predominately Republican; i.e. Senators Stoltzfus and Colburn. So what the Shore needs is strong Republican leadership dedicated to the traditional ideas, Reagan's principles, which made the Country and Party great.

The debate will always exist between the needs of the Western and Eastern Shores as long as both sides are incorporated into the 1st Congressional District. The same argument can be made by voters on either side of the Bay. The debate should be non-existent, as of now and most likely for a long time because the District was drawn to be a Republican District. Both sides of the Bay should agree that a strong Republican Candidate is the best choice to be their Congressman.

Speaking as an everyday Republican why would I speak against someone with a proven record in the State Senate as a good Republican and public servant? Would his beliefs and record as a true Republican disqualify him accurately representing both the Eastern and Western Shores of a Republican 1st Congressional District? I think not. Values and beliefs are universal and transcendent of any geographic location as long as the area and values/beliefs match up to accurately represent the area.

So what kind of spin is it? Kratovil supporter or Gilchrest sympathizer? Regardless what is best for the Republican Party and 1st Congressional District is a Strong Republican Candidate with a Proven Record of Public Service. If you do not agree with Andy and are committed to your own philosophy, fine, that is part of our Democratic Process and I respect your beliefs though I will disagree with you. But as a Republican you cannot deny the vigor in which Andy has exhibited in the State Senate and his commitment to the Republican Party's philosophy. And that final line, "And that's not Kratovil Spin; it's Republican", I do not understand it and I do not agree with it. Fellow Republicans should feel the same way.

The Salisbury Chamber Of Commerce Responds

Dear Joe,

Thank you for your attention to the matter of ASAP's possible sponsorship of this year's Salisbury Festival.

As the chairman of the Chamber's Crime Reduction Task Force, I took it upon myself to further inquire into this matter. As of today, the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce did not receive or accept any payment for sponsorship from Mr. Lewis or ASAP. The Chamber takes it's commitment to enhancing the quality of life within Wicomico County and our region very seriously. Therefore we would never knowingly associate or reward in anyway the sort of criminal activities that allegedly took place at the county landfill.

CHP vs USMC

Top this for a speeding ticket

Two California Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar. One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill.

The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then turned off.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location.

Back at the CHP Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander. The reply came back in true USMC style: Thank you for your letter. We can now complete the file on this incident.

You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to, your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down.

Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location.

Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position.

The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech. Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster.

US Military is Recruiting Soldiers in Uganda...they are kidding...Right?

Uganda: U.S. Army Set to Recruit Citizens

Ugandans who want a career in the United States military, can sign up at the annual convention of the Uganda North American Association, organizers say.

American military recruiters will set up a booth at this year's UNAA convention in Orlando, Florida, and seek out professional Ugandans, said Lt. Frank Musisi, himself an officer in the US Army.

Lt. Musisi, who comes from Kalangala District on Lake Victoria, is the current president of UNAA. He said the US military would also advise Ugandans on the "proper channels" to follow in enlisting. The announcement, which is also on the UNAA website (www.unaa.net), is set to cause a rush to this year's convention that takes place from August 29 to September 1.

UNAA is encouraging interested Ugandans to book flights to Orlando and take a shot at joining the US military. The organization says it has made a deal with Kenya Airways/KLM for a discounted return ticket at $1,200 (Sh74,400). The conference fee is $190 (Sh11,700).

"All registered Kampala travel agents have been authorized to book intending members," Lt. Musisi said in an email interview.

The tour firm Let's Go Travel confirmed to Saturday Monitor that UNAA had circulated a notice of the discounts. Applicants are being asked to carry their curriculum vitae (CV) suggesting that the recruitment exercise will be a main attraction at the convention.

Public interest in jobs abroad in Uganda is intense. Recruitment and job placement companies which advertise are often flooded with thousands of applications.

COUNTY EXECUTIVE RECOMMENDS BREWSTER FOR COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER

Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., is recommending that

Lori Brewster, M.S., APRN/BC, LCADC, be confirmed as the next Wicomico County Health Officer. Ms. Brewster has been the Acting Health Officer since July 1, 2007.

Ms. Brewster, a 17-year Health Department employee, is a Salisbury University graduate and holds a Masters Degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of Maryland. She served as the County’s Deputy Health Officer from 2002 to 2007.

Ms. Brewster was named “Nurse of the Year 1997 for District 4” by the Maryland Nurses Association. She also received the “Outstanding Woman Award” from the Wicomico County Women’s Commission in 2001. Ms. Brewster also served as a Town Commissioner of Secretary, MD in 1994-1995.

The Wicomico County Council is expected to consider the recommendation at its next regular meeting. The final approval on Ms. Brewster’s nomination lies with the Maryland Department of Health and mental Hygiene.

Orioles Record is 5 and 1! What?

Yes, the Orioles are teasing us again with great play and promise at the start of the season. After a poor outing on Opening Day against Tampa Bay, the O's have won 5 straight including a nail biter against Seattle in a 9th inning rally.

As a team the O's are averaging .277 with Luke Scott averaging .500 right now. Scott was aquired from the Astros in the Tejada trade. Looks like it's working out for us so far. 5 other O's have averages at or above .300.

O's pitching has been solid so far keeping the bats in striking distance each game. The rotation and bullpen have not given up more than 6 runs in a game. This is a great start after the end of last years, well, we really dont want to remember all the runs we gave up.

So great start guys and I can root for the O's a little bit. I'm Indians fan, but I can't hate on any team who plays the Yankees and had Cal Ripken Jr and The Boog Powell. So lets keep this start up, get some guys to the All-Star Game, and get our name back into the playoff mix. I'm tired of comming to games where the other fans, Yankee's, outnumber the O's fans. Last summer at an O's Yankee's games it was the Boston Fans getting kicked out of the stadium and the cheers for A'Rod, he was on 499 HRs, and the Yankees as a whole were louder than the O's getting a run. This needs to change because it is an abomination.

Kansas Makes Memphis Dust In The Wind

Alamodome, San Antonio Texas,

Missed free throws and a three point shot call reversed to a two pointer ended Memphis's, from Conference USA, run to their first NCAA Basketball Championship. Memphis's Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas Roberts missed 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to allow Mario Chalmers to send it into overtime with a three point bucket with 9 seconds left. Chalmer's shot was a clutch shot which will be remembered as one of the biggest in NCAA history. An earlier last second three to beat the shot clock by Rose was ruled a 2 pointer after review. College basketball allows for these reviews by the officials on major stoppage of plays.

Two evenly matched teams played their hearts out for 45 minutes giving up their bodies at every chance. Memphis built up a 8 point lead at the 2:12 mark but Kansas came rolling back by hitting threes from Chalmers and Sherron Collins coupled by a two from Darell Arthur and a free throws by Chalmers. Memphis did not have a single field goal from the 2:37 mark to the 59 second mark in the OT period.

Memphis never gave up but waivered in their posture which was evident from their free throw shooting at the end of the game. They would not hold their follow through the freebie causing them to miss. Missed free throws plagued Memphis throughout the tournament.

Kansas's biggest attribute was their unwillingness to die. Collins's three at towards the end came off of a steal. This allowed Kansas not to play the foul and hope they miss at the line game.

The overtime period had Kansas comming out strong and building a 6 point lead halfway through overtime. Memphis was not able to convert on any of their open shots except for one and could only add two free throws for their OT points.

This was an amazing game to watch and if you missed the game it probably will be re-aired on ESPN Classic or another one of their channels. Both teams played with a vigor which makes this game go down for the ages. You never knew at a single point which team would win.

This was Kansas's first Title in 20 years. Memphis ends the season with the most wins ever in a single season, including the NCAA Tournament with 38 wins.

Salisbury Police Press Releases

On April 4, 2008 at approximately 7:31 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the area of Jackson St. in Salisbury for the report of a subject in possession of a handgun. The officers were given descriptions of this suspect, and an accomplice as they proceeded toward the area. Upon arrival, officers located the suspects that matched the description and detained the subjects in an attempt to locate a handgun. As they attempted to identify the suspects, the below listed suspect became combative and assaulted one of the officers. There were no handguns located in possession of the subjects during the investigation.

ARRESTED: Hakeem Dewhite Wrightout, 18 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

CHARGES: Second degree assault

DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking CC # 200800011774

On April 4, 2008 at approximately 2:12 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department were on patrol in the area of the Monkey Barrel Bar and Grill when the officers observed a problem with a large crowd. As the officers investigated, they found that the below listed suspect had been asked to leave the property, but was refusing to comply. Officers attempted a number of times to have the suspect leave the party, without success.

ARRESTED: Spencer Justin Henderson, 21 years of age Bethesda, Maryland

CHARGES:
Trespassing
Disorderly conduct
Failure to obey a lawful order
Obstructing and hindering an investigation

DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking CC # 200800011676

On April 5, 2008 at approximately 2:40 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the Super Fresh Food Store for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, officers were advised by store employees that the below listed suspect had been caught attempting to leave the store with a large amount of groceries without making any attempts at payment. The property was recovered and returned to the store.

ARRESTED: Veronica Jane Lewis, 49 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

CHARGES: Theft (over $ 500)

DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking CC # 200800011890

On April 6, 2008 at approximately 12:18 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to a large crowd at Mill Pond Lane in Salisbury. Upon arrival, the officers located the involved apartment and made contact with the below listed suspect. The suspect became combative towards the officers and pushed one of the officers as the officer attempted to meet with the residents of the apartment to quiet the party.

Have you noticed how they're actually starting to become a newspaper again? It can't last long but today's paper sure was refreshing. The Times never did articles about the Salisbury Police and WCSO, but now they do. ROTFLMAO! It's even Breaking News now.

Pick A Number, Any Number, Just Hurry It Up

Ladies and gentlemen, that's how Gary Comegys basically put it last night at the work session as to how to deal with funding legal services for the city. Pam Oland said all department heads and everyone else needed to stop calling Paul Wilber RIGHT NOW if there wasn't funding put in place RIGHT NOW.

So Gary said Campbell and Cohen held "the fourth vote" between them (budget amendments need a 4-vote majority not three). The hour was getting late (about 8:00) and Gary, Shanie and Louise wanted to go home! Dee, dee, deeee to all three! This is what the taxpayers are paying you for, to do your jobs!

Shanie said, "I'm not comin' to any more meetin's" when John Pick suggested that the council needed to meet with the mayor and Paul Wilber to discuss what Terry Cohen said was cost control on the legal budget that's run OVERbudget three years in a row. Louise said, "Let's move this along. I don't want any more discussion." (What happened to "transparency," Louise?)

And Gary said, "Just pick a number. They (mayor, Wilber, administration???) have to stay within it."

Then Debbie Campbell delivered the classic of the night. "Mr. Comegys, we gave them a number. It's called the budget. And they didn't stay within that."

Gary had pointed out that the mayor decides Wilber's legal priorities. Terry agreed and referred to it as "not managing resources well" and that the council may need to consider changing the charter to provide oversight on questionable legal involvement (like defending landlords, maybe???) that runs into the high dollars for the city. She was too polite.

Then Gary -- whose latest copying from the Campbell/Cohen book is to preface everything with "get public input" -- had another dee, dee, deeee moment, saying something to the effect of nobody was blaming anybody for holding up the city's business.

Dee dee deeee! For all the posturing that went on, especially by Gary, at the last voting session of the council on March 24 and in the newspaper, to make it look like Terry and Debbie were the voting against "Mom, America and Apple Pie" and obstructing the city's ability to conduct business, now you go and say THAT at the work session? I'll say it again: Dee dee deeee!

The mayor and her staff are the ones NOT staying within budget, Gary. They're the ones NOT getting REAL information to the council for making decisions on.

But Gary, Shanie and Louise "Miss Accountability" Smith just wanted to go home. Folks, I don't know about you, but if I wanted to "get a fourth vote," I'd have been a little nicer to Debbie and Terry, rather than continue with the bullying and badgering. When Debbie and Terry had hashed out the numbers (proving they don't come scripted like the other three, actually interested in the input of the other three) and came up with a compromise of $40,000 to get the legal services funded just until a proper meeting on policy could be held, Louise polled the table and Shanie said, "Yeah, ok, I just want to get this over with."

These are your decision makers, Salisbury, and you're just going to sit back? Debbie and Terry are slaving to protect your tax money, while the others just sit there and whine about having to do their jobs.

Expect to see the budget amendment come back April 14 with agreed upon changes, which is how it should have been in the first place when Debbie asked to vote on the items separately. The Hydrilla treatment for Schumaker Pond will be paid for out of unspent zoo salaries, just as Terry had suggested, but Pick mentioned it like it was the administration's idea -- NOT! These people can't give Debbie and Terry credit for anything. And remember how the mayor said the head of Public Works said he couldn't find money for the Hydrilla? Hmmmm, I don't think this was Mr. Caldwell's fault, but I could be wrong.

Show up at the April 14 meeting, people! Thank Debbie and Terry for what they are doing. Ask Louise why she isn't diving into the city's finances and demanding accountability like she promised. Tell Gary to knock off the bully tactics. Tell Shanie to wake up. Show up, speak up! Like the shoe ad said, "Just do it!" It's YOUR city, take it back.

Public Works Makes Purchases At Food Lion

Last night, Councilwoman Debbie Campbell brought up a topic she had just noticed in some files within the Work Session last night. It seems that Public Works is spending your tax dollars on $47.00 worth of bottled water at Food Lion and charging it to their "Chemical Account."

It's spending like this that takes advantage of the taxpayer, and don't think this is all of it. This just happened to be a page she found right then and there.

Gary Comegys at one point got ticked off at Cohen and Campbell, (before Debbie found this money) stating all they wanted to do was Micro Manage the City and he wasn't going to stand for it.

Well Gary, perhaps you spoke too fast because this is exactly why the County should be doing a line item budget as well. These departments are out of control and no sooner did the Mayor claim the City doesn't buy bottled water, there they are in Food Lion buying it and then deceiving the public by charging it to a chemical account.

It's time more taxpayers stood behind Campbell & Cohen to make things right in the City of Salisbury.

A.S.A.P. = Ray Lewis = Salisbury Festival = Chamber Of Commerce?

The word has been spreading about Ray Lewis sponsoring the Salisbury Festival. I've been told that Brad Belachicco (sp?) stated that Ray Lewis has not been indicted and that's why they accepted his sponsorship. However, even Mr. Pollitt stated, while this may be true, Ray Lewis has confessed.

Look, I like the Salisbury Festival and I think it's great for the community. However, to accept crooked money for such an event will keep me from making any purchases there, period. I will attend the event to take pictures but that will be it.

Mayor Tilghman should be outraged and the City should demand such sponsorship be denied and dropped immediately.

"The Salisbury Festival is the largest festival in Wicomico County and draws over 25,000 people for three days of activities. It is planned by the Chamber with assistance from Comcast Cablevision of Delmarva (the corporate sponsor) and many of our member companies and supporting community groups."

Is There Such a Thing as a Cancer Belt?

Ever since we moved here in 1987, we have heard the words Cancer Belt.

My Grandparents who lived in the house in which we live both died of cancer. My Uncle Donnie who took care of them died of cancer. All three were heavy smokers, but why do some people get it and other don't?

Dozens of people that I have had the pleasure of knowing have died in the time that I have lived here and all from Cancer.

Why?

I have a couple of theories that I will share, now these are not based on scientific fact just plain old observation.

1) Nearly every weather system that develops on our continent goes from west to east, and we breath air blown all the way across the country blowing all of the good air mixed with all kinds of pollutants from other areas. Often during the summer, not only are we breathing all of those pollutants but we also end up drinking them and eating them. Many of the weather systems dump that weathers rain right smack on top of us with chemicals of all different sorts. Which leads me to my next observation...

2) If all of this weather from across the country rains or snows on us bringing all of the toxic chemicals right here to the ground on which we walk sow our seeds eat our vegetables, in the end seeps down into our groundwater, which in my backyard is exactly 4'1" from the surface.

3) If these various chemicals leach into our soil and eventually into our groundwater, then that means we are drinking all of them. This can't be good for us.

4) Additionally, we are host a huge array of factory farms not only on the eastern shore but the Shenandoah Valley, Pennsylvania, and western Maryland, all of whose water flows right to us.

We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Chicken farms create huge amounts of nitrogen. While nitrogen on very limited scale is good for the soil in mass quantities it is proven to cause cancer.

Moreover, all of the chemicals that we feed these animals including growth hormones and, antibiotics to name a few are not only being eaten when we purchase these animals in our local stores and ingest them, but they are also excreted in their waste.

Recently, it was reported on national news sources that pharmaceuticals have been found in our drinking water. What else is in there. They test for lead, ammonia, chlorine, and other things but are we testing for all of these other things and are we making provision to rectify these.

WBOC did a story the other day about how polluted the Pocomoke River is, because of an antiquated sewer system dumping millions of gallons a day of treated effluent into the river everyday from the Snow Hill, Sewer Treatment Facility. This town has got to address these issues post haste. They had the opportunity to have federal monies to replace it but a developer wanted to purchase a huge amount of land and was speculating on building a development that would double the current size of Snow Hill. Now that developer can't obtain the bonds necessary to install the system. The market is in the toilet, and he can't get the financing, and now we will all suffer.

I found a site factoryfarmmap.org this map will show you what factory farms are in your area, how many, and the top polluters.

According to the map Maryland is #10 in the nation for Broiler Chicken Production, and #23 out of 50 in polluters.

This is a very interesting site, and extremely informative. Check it out!

We owe to ourselves and our children to clean up our acts and take responsibility ourselves to make this a healthier place to live.

The Making Of A World Champion

Many may not be familiar with the name or recognize Fernando Guerrero but millions of people will know exactly who this guy is world wide this Wednesday night as he debuts on ESPN II at 8:00 PM from the Bell Auditorium.

Fernando and his manager Hal Chernoff left this morning around 4:00 AM to Baltimore where they'll catch a flight to Augusta, Georgia for the 5th fight of Fernando's career. So far Fernando is 4-0, all 4 fights won by knock out! He'll be fighting a man named Valentino Galamo, who is 2-2. I just want to warn everyone, Fernando's fight could be earlier, it could be later?

Last week Fernando sparred with former World Champion Paul Williams. After asking Fernando what that experience was like he said, "It made me believe I belong in the ring and a Champion." Fernando wanted ALL other kids from the Salisbury area to know, they can do it to, they can make it, I did.

I asked his Coach, Manager, Best Friend and Dad, Hal, what makes Fernando so special? Hal explained how he's better than Roy Jones Jr. & Floyd Mayweather, (? sp) Hal's very proud of this young man and although Hal is Fernando's adopted Dad, (so to speak) he truly treats him like one of his own and disciplines him to teach him right or wrong.

Keep your eyes out for this young man Ladies & Gentlemen, he's truly special and this young man LOVES Salisbury, "It's my home." He hopes to win the Championship so he can bring HBO and ESPN right here to Salisbury and not have to travel any more.

UPDATE: I just read elsewhere: his fight will be on Wednesday Night Fights at around 10 PM ET or after the major league baseball game.

Last Nights City Council Work Session

Some good questions came up at the city council work session about Fire Station 16 from Debbie Campbell about keeping some emergency response there, but the questions still went unanswered. While most of the discussion focused on fires, Terry Cohen asked about EMS response because Louise Smith said she was comfortable with Chief See saying there was plenty of fire coverage from the stations at Beaglin, Brown and Fruitland. When Terry asked if there was ambulance service at Fruitland and Gary Comegys said "no," Louise said there were private companies to handle that.

Dee, dee, deeee, Louise. Companies like Lifestar don't do those kind of calls.

That wasn't Louise's only dee, dee, deeee moment of the night, either. When the council was considering a city in China to be a sister city, she asked the Derek Wu from Bennett High School (amazing, well-spoken young man of Chinese ancestry) where he learned to speak English so well. Derek didn't miss a beat, saying, "I was born in Oregon." So much for Louise touting her "multiculturalism" background. If she'd been listening, she'd have known Derek was American. (By the way, Derek is THE student representative to the Maryland State Board of Education, a first I think for the Eastern Shore. Congratulation, Derek!)

I have to admit, Louise did ask on the fire station if the matter of who owns Station 16 had been settled (been reading my blog, Louise?) But when the answer was not yet, but it "looked" like the city does, Louise didn't miss a beat just moving on ahead as though nothing mattered. Terry Cohen was the one who came back to it and said the issue had to be settled for certain before any RFP could go out. (Can't sell what's not yours.) Oh, and an FYI for certain hand-out requesters, the strip of land next to Station 16 is NOT part of this RFP. The council wants to keep it as open space.

There was an intense discussion on the large budget amendments Barrie Tilghman and the council majority tried to ram through and Paul Wilber's big legal bills to the city, but I'll post on that later today. It deserves its own space, including a few more dee, dee, deeees to come.

I will provide more details later but some very good questions have been brought up about the old Fire Station 16. The report Debbie Campbell asked for from See & Keenan were simply never provided as to why they shouldn't keep it as a 1st response Station and since Keenan retired before the report could be delivered, See is denying a request ever existed. I have been present at least 5 times when it was.

There were three other people here as potential buyers and as we all stood around discussing this at a break, no one believes that Station is worth much more than $250,000.00.

Gannett Publishes Pocomoke Election Endorsement Letters In Wrong Paper

Pocomoke City lost a bit of local history when the Worcester County Messenger was sold out to Nationwide Corporate Giant Gannett, then rolled into the Worcester County Times, AKA Ocean City Times. In reading through the web based content with letters to the Editor I noted two letters of support for Bruce Morrison in his bid for re-election to the Pocomoke City Council last Tuesday April 1st.

The letters of support were published in the Ocean Pines Independent. WOW Does anyone check what they print there?

I find it incredulous that this publisher does not proof read advertising nor do they check content for context or if it is even in the correct publication.

Yes we supported Councilman Bruce Morrison in his election bid and its nice to see that Reverend Greg Powell wrote a nice letter of support and that Jimmy Hammond on behalf of the Pocomoke Fire Dept supported one of their own.

I am baffled as to who in Ocean Pines really cares about a Pocomoke City Municipal election and why these were not published last week in the Worchester County Times?

This is just one more example of what happens to a small town when they sell their souls & community assets to big business getting nothing for the community in return.

"Walk Hard:The Dewey Cox Story"(starring John C.Reilly) is among this weeks DVD releases and having seen it, I have to say it was as bad as I expected but in a good way-it spoofs practically ever "Behind the Music"-style movie about the rise and fall of a famed musician that has ever been made. It borrows heavily from "Walk the Line" and also incorporates scenes from others like "The Doors".

Any "rock star-movie" cliche you can think of is satired here. Look for cameos from very famous faces, including a hilarious turn as a young Elvis by musician Jack White and Jack Black as Paul McCartney. I loved this movie but sadly admit some people will not find it funny. BTW, the unrated DVD version has a gratuitous male full-frontal nudity shot in deference to "Boogie Nights" (John C.Reilly also starred in this!)but this guy is not as developed as Dirk Diggler.

As each decade brings a different music style, Dewey adapts and does a "crossover" between stints in rehab. Hysterically funny movie!

What Say You Now Mayor, Chiefy & Firefighters?

Boy, people are passionate about their opinions. Here is what is correct. It IS economically feasible to place solar panels on a commercial application. Even with the lousy rebates in Maryland, it makes good economic sense AND--it is the RIGHT thing to do. I should know, I own the Wash 'N Vac Car Wash on Northwood Drive that was referenced in this piece.

I have a solar water heating system to aid in wash water heating that will pay back in less than three years, including the $2k rebate from the state.

The solar electric system is 6.3kW. This system will pay back in 10-12 years, maybe sooner if electric rates keep going up.....oops, I mean as electric rates continue to go up. The rebate from the state is $5k. I will also be able to sell renewable energy credits back to the power company. The details of that are still being worked out. Anyhow, the solar panels have a full 25 year warranty, the inverter has a ten year warranty. Where can this go wrong? I think the Sun is going to keep shining.

We also recycle part of our water; up to 50%. These are the right things to do as business people. It is a win, win.

I wanted to place more solar electric panels on this roof, but have decided to install some at my two Delaware locations. Delaware rebates 50% of the system costs up to $250k. The pay back will be much quicker there.

Brian, THANK YOU! I have been trying to make this point for a good year or more and they always have excuses/lies. Wisdom and experience is what was needed to settle the minds of the Taxpayers and even though my Father In Law proved this years ago in the Library Downtown, having someone else come on board and share their experience is what was really needed. The Mayor and Fire Chief have once again failed the Taxpayers.

Say Goodbye To Home Equity In Maryland!

A very good friend in the mortgage business told me that a LOT of banks are freezing peoples home equity lines and lines of credit due to the nationwide foreclosure rate and real estate market, and the fact Maryland has been placed in a "declining market".

An example of what a travesty this is would be a couple that uses that line to pay for their kids education, after they worked to pay down their primary mortgage. No funds any longer. The same with retired people, they have a small mortgage (can't qualify to get another) yet have lived responsibly, and now have that "line" for emergencies and to live from, but they have found it's no longer honored.

These decisions are based on what's called a "declining market", which I am told all of Maryland is in. This is one of the standards the lenders look at.

Now, if a lender has not already done this, some people have "cashed out their line", or equity in full, for fear this is going to happen, and put it in an under funded savings account, which now puts the lender in more of a profitable position, and putting the person in a real debt, with payments that otherwise would not have happened. All of this is just compounding the position of once a strong country, now in DEBT more than ever, and growing.

IF this is happening as much as I am told, I sure hope the average person knows it's a possibility, because not everyone over financed, over spent, but considered these line of credits good planning, to now have the rug pulled from under them could be a real hardship. Just another step to sending the current economy into the worst free fall for the last 75 years.

Local Government Tort Claims Legislation Clears the House

Legislation opposed by both MML and the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) cleared the House of Delegates and was heard in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee last week. Testifying in opposition to the bill was MML's Director of Government Relations Candace Donoho, MACo Executive Director David Bliden and a representative of Baltimore City's Office of the Solicitor. HB 16 extends the time required to file a claim against a local government from six months to one year. MML cited increased exposure to lawsuits, potential increased legal fees and increased insurance costs as reasons the bill would hurt local governments. The legislation will be voted on by the full Senate committee this week.

So Do Tell Me Again Why The Salisbury Fire Department Couldn't Go Solar?

We were told it wasn't cost effective for the Salisbury Fire Department, (a $10,000,000.00 Fire Station) to go green and save taxpayers money by going solar. OK, so do tell me how this local Car Wash was able to do so and let me assure you, they don't have $10,000,000.00 invested into that building! I'll add, the Wicomico County Library in Downtown Salisbury also went Solar.

OK, now that the BS has been spread by See & Gordy, NOW here's some FACTS and TRUTH.

Ladies & Gentlemen, when the Library Downtown was taken over, they had a 6,000 gallon boiler system in there costing the taxpayers $6,000.00 a year in oil. That was for the original 24,000 square foot building.

My Father In Law had Solar Panels installed back in, (ARE YOU READY) 1978 when they expanded the building to more than 50,000 square feet!

That being said, the solar panels, (which are STILL there today) covered 75% of the heating bills from that point forward and the oil heating system, which kicked in below 30 degrees only cost the taxpayers $1,200.00 PER YEAR after the solar panels were installed.

Yes, I waited till some of the Idiots got on here to defend why they DIDN'T install solar panels because I wanted to show just how stupid and uninformed they really are.

Many businesses are going solar because it makes sense! Barrie, See & Gordy don't care about YOUR tax dollars and the Library is living proof they're liars in more ways than one.

I guess I'll be seeing yet another lawsuit coming soon because every time I'm right about something and it makes them look really bad, they sue me. Oh well, I'm up for it.

Wymzie (Mrs. Boss Hogg) has Started Her Own 'Non-Political' Blog

Wymzie has started her own blog. I think I need a place to write about my many other interests other than politics.

As opinionated as I am, I feel strongly about a variety of issues and a political blog is not always the place to share them.

My blog will focus on my experiences and other woman who can identify with me. I will post topics regarding gardening, motherhood, spirituality, friendships, beekeeping, birdwatching, great recipes, the arts, living in mid-life, having an aged grandfather, and all of the wonderful things I learn from him, owning an old home, sex, marriage, great books I have or am reading and poetry, and car repair for girls.

All around life issues from the world according to wymzie.

I hope that all of you will check it out. Contribute to it, and share with me any ideas that you may have to make it a better, more fun, relevant and informative place to be .

Community Event Wednesday

The Ben Layton Memorial Committee, whose members consist of Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society participants, are holding a Silent Auction this Wednesday, April 9th. The Silent Auction will be by invitation only and will be held at the Cactus Taverna from 6:30 to 9pm. All proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

This event is the first of two this year, with the second being the Ben Layton Memorial 5k run on Saturday, April 26th.

Now I'm mad! I learned this morning that the City of Salisbury, Mayor Barrie Tilghman, Chief See and Deputy Chief Gordy are ONCE AGAIN trying to FIRE yet another 18 year veteran of the City, Mr. David Merritt of the Salisbury Fire Department.

That's right Folks. Here's yet another victim of their bullshit brotherhood crap where they'll do anything to advance and forget where they came from. They did it to my Wife after 18 years too.

If ANY ONE OF YOU have had the pleasure of getting to know this man, they do not come any finer! Dedication, honorable, fair and a true Brother, yet his Brothers are standing there watching yet ANOTHER person fall and get screwed by the system and those dumb Idiots just stand there and watch because they're getting flat screen tv's and new Fire Trucks as well as a new station.

So please, each and every one of you pieces of sh!t, don't come on here and talk Brotherhood to me. And as far as See & Gordy go, game on, you pieces of sh!t! Thank God your fat asses never got hurt on the job so bad you couldn't perform 100%, right?

I have lost all respect for these two and as it was my goal to rid of John Jacobs, Jim Rapp & Carrie Samis, See & Gordy are now next. Oh, if you think it's not possible, just look at Jacobs, Rapp & Samis. I'm batting a thousand!

Shorebirds Fireworks

Duh, Where'd Da Ball Game Go?

One dedicated Fan showed up to the Shorebirds game yesterday but was obviously disappointed when there was no Usher standing there to wipe off his seat. But hey, wait a minute, where are the Players too? The game was rained out unfortunately and some went home to their crossword puzzles and blogs instead. Not to worry thought, the Shorebirds will be home again this Friday. In the mean time you can go out and watch a local Band play? NOT!

Oh, Wait Till You Hear THIS!

The Salisbury Fire Department has ordered a new Tower Truck and apparently two new Engines as well. The new Deputy Chief (Hoppes) wanted the color changed to Chicago black over red. Yeah, that should be well seen! Do these Idiots know why the colors RED and Green are used in the first place?

The Sheriff's Department was ragged on the other day because of their black Chargers. There is the element of surprise necessary with those vehicles. However, I don't believe the element of surprise should be a part of the Fire Department, do you?

Let's stick with the two additional Engines ordered the other day. We were all aware of the $1,200,000.00 Ladder Truck. However, there's been NO MENTION of two additional Engines? Uh oh, did I just OUT SCOOP the Daily Times again?

Deputy Chief Gordy did mention they were going to replace them all when we did the tour through the new Fire Station but I didn't realize the City of Salisbury was so rich right now that they could afford to purchase even more multi million dollar vehicles?

Like I said in an earlier Post. This is up to you Folks now. We can only do so much here at Salisbury News. Once again, even after a very lengthy conversation with Greg Bassett the other day, the Daily Times article stated the Fire House was once again at $8,000,000.00 and now the actual $10,000,000.00. Perhaps the additional $2,000,000.00 difference is in purchasing all these new Fire Trucks?

All in all Folks, while the United States is going broke and the State of Maryland is raising their taxes, as well as the City of Salisbury, are you Idiots just going to sit there and take this crap day in and day out? Well, are you?

Tonight at midnight, the 2008 General Assembly Session comes to a close. In short that means for the next 9 months you can relax because the politicians in Annapolis cannot continue their assault on your wallets.

During the last 89 days, I fought against tax increases. I fought against the radical liberal Democrats continued assaults on our personal liberty. Liberal Democrats showed once again they believe the government knows how to spend your money better they you do. They continued to show they believe that the government knows the best way for you to live your life more than you do. In contrast, I believe you know how to spend your money better than the government does. I also believe that you know what is best for you, not the government.

These are clear philosophical differences between radical liberal Democrats and common-sense conservative Republicans. I will continue to fight for common-sense conservative principles right up until midnight tonight.

With your help, I hope today marks my last day in the General Assembly Session. Next January, I hope you will give me the pleasure of representing you as your member of Congress.

I'm told if you go to the Briefing Book you'll learn this scam of a Mayor is planning on proposing to offer the building not to the highest bidder but to the person willing to do exactly what the City wants them to do with the building.

Ladies & Gentlemen, don't let this one lie. You must do something about this woman as they'll do anything for the FOB's and anything to keep me out, similar to the Mounted Patrol Horses, purchasing a surplus Fire Truck and yes, even a Grandparents Membership to the Zoo. To take it a step further, they'll even sue me for no good reason.

Before Barrie Tilghman GIVES away the City before she leaves, you need to stop her from playing these games. Now, if you don't care, so be it. It's only a building to me. If you liked that staged picture I had up months ago showing what the Art's people want to do with it, go for it.

I'm tired of doing ALL of your fighting, along with the rest of the original Dirty Dozen, as we were named. It's time for you people to start acting responsible and get out of those diapers.

Charity Fundraiser for Tommy Forsythe Wed. Night

This Wednesday Station 7 in Pittsville will be holding a fundraiser to benefit Tommy Forsythe, an 11 year old who has a rare form of Leukemia. Tommy is the son of a Maryland State Trooper. The fundraiser starts at 6pm and goes till close. 10% of sales will go to help his family with medical expenses and there will be give-a-ways as well.
